I’ve had my 2020 Touareg R-Line Tech Diesel for 2 years. Second car is a 2023 Polo GTI. I drive over to France and Germany from UK 2 or 3 times per year. I always take the Touareg. It’s big, comfy and the adaptive cruise, lane keeping, traffic jam assist makes long trips a breeze. Four wheel steering and auto park makes it great in cities. Towed a boat from Portugal with it…thirsty, but hey…it was three tons. Again, towing was effortless and trailer assist meant I could reverse on the lorry deck of the ferry without making a prat of myself. I love the occasional thrash in the Polo, but for serious miles it’s the Touareg. I’m looking to change in the autumn and looked at a Defender. I loved the look, but I don’t really need the off road performance. I’m going for another Touareg as an amazing long range, comfy, tech packed, towing capable tourer. Just my view, others will feel different.
Anthony, How did you go with your next Touareg? I’m trying to decide between an R Line Touareg Diesel or should I risk trying the Volvo XC60 Recharge Ultimate. 🤔
@@GR8Tmate I waited out for the facelift model with the 282hp diesel engine. I wanted another tech edition with a heads up display and adaptive suspension. I have to say I still love it. I’m actually off to Europe next week for a month and it’s still the perfect car for the trip in my view as I like a big comfy road car but don’t need six seats or rugged off roading capabilities. I didn’t go for the hybrid simply because I need the towing power of the bigger diesel and four-wheel-drive to cope with some slippery slip ways. The downside for me is that I think it would’ve been good to have had a little bit more of a facelift inside, sure the interface has been updated but it feels like I’ve had the same car for a very long time now. The Volvo looks like a great car though, however, I still have a soft spot for the defender.
I enjoyed your review. You’re very refreshing vs the normal robot presenters! Great car...I’m waiting for my lease order to turn up, hopefully without nappies. Can ‘t wait!
I thought the poor sound quality was because of the wind, but Alas it it's as poor inside. So will never know the outcome. Improvement is the order of the day.
Tim, great review... normal guy, dry sense of humour, not super trying to be a professional and consequently open, honest and helpful to anyone who is not interested in the opinion of an automaton at the VW showroom who is desperate to make his monthly commission! Also I like that you left it messy and didn’t pimp it up with polish and a Hoover... let’s face it nobody actually cleans the car every Sunday after mowing the lawn on a Saturday (do they???)... personal favourite is that someone actually commented on the audio quality of the upgrade and this seems like a small thing to me when for some of us this is what makes or breaks the car and its long term enjoyment! Cheers!!! p.s. Just ordered my Black Edition (in Aquamarine Blue) with Dynaudio and rear wheel steering...
Hi ! Am trying to decide: should I order the 2024 Touareg with the Dynaudio , how would you describe it ? The basic sound system is really poor, but don't have the chance to listen to the optional Dynaudio anywhere. Thanks !
@@georgepotcovaru2595 defo get the Dynaudio upgrade... it is really pretty good! Obvs not as good as a bespoke aftermarket package would be. But for factory fit, I think it is decent.
Good review...thanks. I purchased a top spec diesel in South Africa. My only annoyance is that mine won't do Google maps at all. I've inserted a SIM card with data, but to no avail. At this price range I expected it to work. Doubt I'll be replacing it with a VW product again.
Hi, Tim ! How do you find the optional Dynaudio, would cost me about 1.500€ and just can't listen to it anywhere in a Touareg ? Also, do you consider the 19inch wheels as a disadvantage ? Don't really want to spend any more on bigger ones except if the 20's would offer a stability plus when cornering. Many thanks &keep up the great job !
Just bought the exact same model and you’re spot on with your review. I can confirm that the diesel is very frugal. Rear wheel steering is awesome - last car I had RWS on was a Citroen ZX Volcane in the 90’s! Good review 👍
Thank you Tim, I’m about to commit to a TSI BE Touareg and loved your ‘as it is’ review! You’ve confirmed that I’m not a tit for going for this and agree with the chintzy(Q7/GLE) feeling. I will check the audio before putting pen to paper! A genuine thank you!
A Jolly good review Tim thanks ! , Were those blue interior light strips an optional extra ? So far I think the must have option is the rear wheel steering , not sure on The dynaudio it’s pricey , there are some cracking lease deals on at the mo making this much more affordable although adding options will dent that a bit Black edition for me as looks mean!
I've had 4 of these, couple of diesels and a couple of petrols. Like you I had a petrol then thought I'd go back to the diesel, only when you go back do you fully appreciate the petrol engine, it was a very quick swap back to another petrol ! They're deceptively quick surprising many a hot hatch between 70-100mph
As a fellow Scorpio I wish you a very happy birthday. Honestly no need for the happy ending though! Can’t believe you said that 😂 Always liked Touaregs but never owned one and think you summed it up with the whole US thing with the chrome around the headlights. Really not my thing and I’m from Essex! We did try one but XC90 was our beast of choice. Nice review 👍
Hey Tim, Great review! Looking to Lease a Black Edition car... Circa £15k 2 years. We have 2 kids, one that's 4 and 1 in nappies... Any other cars that think do a better job for the money? Cheers
Sound is really not good with the wind. The sound system is really bad in the touareg, nothing special for such price. The lane assist is needed always to switch of, its even dangerous, not well working. All other points are like you told.
Moderately interesting thanks. I may never need any of that information. I still don’t know what day it is 🤨 A dark Tuareg flys under the radar AF! The VAG group be crazy with their 4x4 lineup! My Mrs had a Macan D, then a Turbo. PDK gearbox good, but I still liked the D best for it’s relaxed delivery. The Turbo was more zoomy, but felt utterly ridiculous at anything more than a flowing amble. Both were unimpeachable on the autobahn. Have you driven those? So with Autumn, comes the death of your brown Tuareg experience. What comes next though? Happy Birthday 🥳 🏃🏻♂️ 🌳 .....I’ve just been offered a new stock Manual Boxster Spyder ready to go, if you know anyone that wants one?
@@TimRodieDrivesStuff I sadly bring home insufficient cheddars to buy/rent/pcp such machinery 🥲 I’ve zenithed with my five year Cayman GTS 981/718 dalliance and have to now head back to mere mortal transport. It’ll be used i30N, or new GRY, if the ‘new normal’ allows me to stretch to it 🤓
diesels always sound and drive like tractors...there is no getting away from it... but great in a truck for loads, torque and long trips, hopeless around town.

When you say frugal in Diesel, what sort of litres per 100km are you talking?! Are you happy with
Everything? Any issues?
Please, please, please invest in a wind cover for your mike, also upgrade your mike at the same time.

Mate, your videos have come a long way since this…
Tell me about it! I cringe so hard whenever I get a comment notification from this one…
Clean the car man and fix the sound
In Africa 'Touareg' means 'free folk'
In Australia it means '£74,273'
In GB it apparently means 'happy endings' if it's owner is having a birthday
I am sure this is a good video but the sound quality made me turn it sorry fella
Yup, it was one of my earlier efforts without a wind blocker on my mic! My later vids are better (but less Touareg content…)
Would be nice with decent sound!
Agreed

You obviously haven’t driven a v6 or a v8 diesel then.
Wouldn't you just prefer a Passat or A4 estate? Same size and neither, to petrolheads, screams 'arsehole on board'? Happy birthday
