Each time Dave fought Tun Tun Min, Dave improved fairly noticeably. Over time... it's watching one guy run away with the race. I like this, because in the US, we place far to much emphasis on one fight to determine who is "better." And the margin in one fight is so small... either man can win on a good or bad night. Really, you want to see 10-20 fights to see which fighter is truly better. But 2,3,4 will have to do. Certainly better than one.
jack daniels -- I agree... and then I don't. Because we have the "anomaly" of kickboxing and Muay Thai (and also Lethwei) where there are hoardes of fighters with 50, 75, 100, 200 plus fights. It's more a phenomenon of the business, the betting, the cultures of both the business and betting respective to each country and league... it's just a different set of goals and outcomes that we have such truncated careers in "western" MMA. (Like, I though it was fkn ludicrous that Brock was "heavyweight champ" with 5 fights. And so did Fedor....) Even in say, the old days of boxing, a fighter routinely had 100 fights, and fought the same guy 4,5,6 times. Now, I do get that we have a different thing going-- it's not 12 fights every month for a starter-- it's career management, financial planning, long term health... a different game altogether. Having said that, though, you'd be more apt to look at a 5-10 fight span of say a Muay Thai competitor against another, and "know" who the likely better fighter is, for the simple fact that it's just a bigger sample size. Not saying I would want fighters in UFC/MMA to do this... I have enough trouble following all the fighters and fights as it is, right? So many great boxers, too. But, I do admire MMA resumes when I see a 50+ bout fighter, because you know he or she fought 3-4 times a year minimum to get there, win or lose. And often, you see trilogies and rematches on those fighters' records. I like that quite a bit. Paints the story of careers more when fighters meet more than once, instead of just one circumstantial showdown. It's cool. Nowadays, you got champs with less than 20 fights... and I think, maybe I am just old.... 😆
