QPO were always fun to watch in the Eurocup. I wasn't a fan of AAA, maybe a couple of their players. Same with Forze. If UNR / Iron Fist were out, I'd be following QPO rooting for them. Prozac on fire was something fun to watch. He was similar to Bl0key - just an all round consistent beast. Nothing flashy. Just got the job done - carried the team. Fuck Ice Climbers. Bunch of Ronaldos and Messis all on the same team. That day when Iron Fist beat them in the final and Fox had his little meltdown is still one of the all time glory days of QIII.
Prozac was like Bl0key from UNR. Not a dueller, but in TDM, he had that nice *consistent* DG/DR ratio! Silently carrying the game, causing massive problems, steady away! I remember someone saying that any team in the world : AAA, GZD, EYE, FORZE, CK, 519 - all of em would have dropped *someone* on their roster to take Bl0key. They tried to poach him. Bl0key, like Prozac, was never a star 1v1 player. But they were both in discussion of the BEST players in TDM, which is a different beast to 1v1 entirely. I got into a couple of clans back in the prime Q3 days, cos I was lonely and had enough of 1v1 all day every day. I got drafted into every game too. Sometimes I'd say to the team, after a stinker couple of games, "why you always pick me?". It's cos they knew when I was on, I could +25 net and carry the game. But a lot of times I was off. Granted I was playing at a lower level than the Elite level clans, but I was a risk. Sure sometimes I'd +25 net off a few quads and lady luck. But other times I'd -20 net, even though I could molest every single player on the enemy team in a duel. TDM is different. Prozac was never a risk! You know you're getting a game changer player when he's on the ground. Always got his demos, watched his POV in cup games. One of the best European TDM players period, up there with Tox and M1st and Bl0key and Gladyshev. Legend. Ain't no shame in losing to Fat in a 1v1. Was the zoom function disabled for death match,? I saw no one used it... Actually it is very handy for firing railgun into far distance .. I thought I was very good at it on the final nightmare against Xaero ..
omg!!!! so funny to see this map in the competition:) and so funny to see that they know nothing about this map. It is all about machinegun, rockets, and knowing the spawns.
It's amazing how buggy and laggy OSP Q3 was. Just watching it reminds me how much Quake (QL) has improved over the years with physics and netcode. Plus those slow rockets.. omg.. :)
I don't think it increases accuracy, what does slow fire rate have to do with that lol? but yes saving ammo seems mostly reasonable but in certain scenarios its really not reasonable like in 00:22.. here he just spawned and he had to die ofcourse as the other player had rockets... but he still fired at a slow rate instead of going all out and doing massive damage... I get a feeling that the firing rate of machine gun was reduced for dm17, it could very well be the reason.
Interesting, I see this type of comment a lot on these older videos, and I can definitely understand how people would come to that conclusion with the intensity in speed and mind games that are played in modern duels. I used to think the same thing! However, in reality, Fatal1ty actually schooled Cooller in Quake 4 and nearly stole the WSVG title from Toxjq, who was losing in the final round until he went into assassin mode and destroyed him, circa 2006. Also, Zero4, one of the most famous classic Quake players came back to Quakecon in 2013 and has since placed 4th in the duels twice (and that's just him taking it as a hobby, not training as hard as his protege-prodigy rapha) and took first with his teams in CTF in 2014, and Duel Division in 2015. Not to mention, that time Cypher faced off and beat ZeRo4, he only won by 1 single point! Check out the duel from 2008 if you are into these demo videos, it was pretty amazing (also the other matches I mentioned can all be found in a google or youtube search if you are interested in checking them out too, the toxjq vs fatal1ty duel in Quake 4 is way sicker than this match). Oldschool or new, the Quake Champions throughout the years are all sick, and some of these oldschoolers have proven, like my previously mentioned examples, that they can totally *hang with *DaHang (lol), Cypher, Cooller... just maybe not Evil and Rapha, those two are on fire these days... XD I think It's one of the dopest things about quake!
I disagree to be honest. This was an exhibition game for fun, was never really meant to be published online and was mostly me messing around in the final minutes in the game to make it an interesting finale. Unfortunately me trying to be acrobatic and have a crazy final frag failed because of mis-calculating Prozacs health and thinking he was under 100hp. Watch CPL Finals Fatal1ty vs Vo0 to get a better idea of high level professional play where there is $150,000 on the line and not some exhibition match that doesn't mean anything. All the best man.
Such a shame today's toplayer like ratpha plays to the backpedal killing all the emotions on watching such boring matches. Damn why people like Fatal1ty had to retire? =(
They don't just +back though. There is alot of thought going into each decision now. That is why it feels slower. Rapha, Cypher and Evil would all beat the best duellers back in 2003 if they had todays skills, because of all the extra experience that they just didn't have back in 2003.
Wrong, RATPHA is just that, a freakin RAT. I've watched Quake for like 15 years, I know there's a lot going like you say, but you can't compare Cypher who is a BEAST that throws CRAZY ROCKETS with Ratpha, the king of backpedaling, his playstyle is boring AF to watch, just safe safe safe till bores you, then he gets aggro for 2-3 kills and while he is in the lead sits down taking control of the map and avoiding any fights, even the ones he could win, he just trys to stay in the lead and that's it, if you want to force Ratpha a fight you are going to lose because he's got all the advantage and a privileged brain for sensing when he has to give up stuff to the enemy in order to AVOID the fight, that's the difference, if you pick for example Cooller, has a similar playstyle, the difference is even Cooller is more agressive than Ratpha, and the oldschool players also were taking decissions but they didn't play the macrogame at this level of pussyplay. And again, if you didn't understand, the problem is RATPHA being the champion, if it would be idk, cypher or k1llsen, then it wouldn't be boring to watch because those are player who actually give a good espectacle while playing for the joy of the audience.
Not really but if we have in mind the game is a balance between physical aptitude (aiming, strafing/movement, reflexes) and a psychological factor (macrogame, strategy, timing, map control) ... when the game is based most of the time on the 2nd it gets boring. Lets be honest, I don't like for example football/soccer, but what is more enjoyable for you to watch? a game where the ball is going from player to player all game and its 99% of the match on who control the ball or one of those games where both teams are most of the time rushing into the GOAL? I guess the 2nd one gives more emotion to watch for the spectators, so I guess in Q3/QL isn't much difference. I rather would like to watch someone like Daler, k1llsen, cypher even strenx rather than watching boring people like rapha or Lexer, but yeah as you said to each their own.
