I'm sitting at my computer in the middle of the night, with a lump in my throat and a bit of "mist" in my eyes, wallowing in my 1940s childhood. I grew up, first dozen years in a village of less than a thousand, then in a city of 20,000, just an hour or so from Milwaukee, WI, but it looked just like this. Thanks very much! I just subscribed and "rang the bell---and will be searching UA-cam for more of your "Memories." Stay safe, everyone.
The movie on the marquee at the end is Betty Grable in "Mother Wore Tights" (1947), but the movie on the Embassy marquee at 02:37 is "Paid in Full" (1950)... so at least that section of footage can't be any older than 1950.
Looked liked NYC back in the days and seemed more busier of course because it was about shopping in those days with more respect its a shame how it turned out now
If any of you noticed, the women did not wear slacks. They all wore skirts or dresses. When I went through all 12 grades in Easton, we were not allowed to wear pants.
It would be beneficial to have a documentary made with this footage, pinpointing the times/era that these were taken. It would be an awesome "take on" project for college students interested in history, journalism, media and video/audio careers. Just a thought.
@@carolthompson1458 That's one of the advantages of posting home movies publicly. Many of the films we have scanned, posted and exposed on this site have been recognized by individuals that have been in the areas the movies were filmed in. They have put much beneficial info including names of places people and their own personal memories of such places. Feel free to check some of the other films and the comments connected to them! :)

Awesome!
I love Ray Morris..... thank you for all you do...when I view your work I feel as if I'm walking in my grandparents shoes...a wonderful feeling.......
Thanks for these great videos. I'm 62 years old and I've lived in the Lehigh Valley all my life except for school and the military.

That just shows how women were demeaned and more controlled by men.
Then they got electricity?

Just think about it, everyone here is most likely gone by now :(

Where's the narrative????
These are peoples' old home movies. They have no sound.
@@19king14 Its good stuff, but without any narrative history to go along with it, it falls short.
@@carolthompson1458 For the most part the narrative history is lost and gone. The fact that we can even have the video is a blessing.
