- The FBI has laid out a detailed case showing why agents believe a Florida man is behind his estranged wife’s disappearance from her apartment in Spain but gave no indication about what they think happened to her.
Court documents released late Monday show that agents believe David Knezevich resembles the man wearing a motorcycle helmet who spray painted the security camera lens outside Ana Knezevich’s Madrid apartment on Feb. 2.

The cause that led to her murder has to be discussed. If, splitting the assets in half when a partner has not had any involvement with the procurement of said assets can cause your partner to commit such crimes. As an avid Crime Show enthusiast there is many cases where each gender have committed a crime to either get life insurance or assets their spouse had.
That is why it is very important to talk about the situation of a divorce with your spouse or even come up with a prenup to protect each other at the end. Quick example, my fiancée and I have talked in the case of a divorce her savings, retirement account, assets, and inheritance would be off limits in case we get a divorce. If we have kids we would both have shared custody and be responsible for them financially. It is important to have all this in writing and signed by a notary public/lawyer/judge in order to validate the document.

Ladies, you gotta be street smart. A few years ago, it was that chic that was killed at an AirBnB in Costa Rica, before that it was Grace Millane who also ended up in a suit case. Oh, I forgot the woman who flew from NYC to Phoenix to go on a date with a cop. He made her hike after being on airplane and she dehydrated to death. When you leave your home turf, safety, and support system behind, USE YOUR WITS. Don't react and pack a go bag, when he's not expecting it leave. I've been there with women who lose their *ish. I just stay quiet and plan my out.
One thing I dont understand is, if the kidnapping and presumed murder happened in Spain, why is he being charged in the USA and not spain where the crime occurred? I understand she was a US citizen, but if a Spanish citizen were murdered in the USA, would the case be handled in Spain? I dont think so.

@@LoriLeeLarson So what? The location of the crime controls the jurisdiction, not the nationality of the parties. If an Ugandan citizen murdered someone in Florida, it is US that has jurisdiction, not Uganda.
I don't know all of the details, but this case is a complicated one because those involved span acorss a wide scope of nations, & nationalities. Plus, he just happened to be in the U.S. when he got arrested.
I don't fully understand how international crime laws are laid out but I think it's due to the fact that multiple laws were broken across multiple players in multiple countries.
Without knowing the full details of this situation... It's possible he broke laws in all the countries impacted by this crime. Hypothetically speaking, let's say this was a premeditated murder, then the planning of this murder most likely took place while he was still on US soil. Then the actual murder took place on Spanish soil. Then he used an unwitting accomplice in Colombia to help him cover up the murder. Ultimately he stupidly returned to US soil which is where he was arrested.
Because he broke laws in multiple countries, he can stand trial in all the countries where he broke a law. Meaning he could be tried for premeditated murder in the US (again, this is hypothetical because I'm not sure what the FBI plans to charge him with). Then, he could be extradited to Spain (because we do have an extradition agreement with Spain) where he will then stand trial for murder there.
Ultimately, depending on how each government cooperates with one another and what punishment he receives if convicted in both countries, he can certainly expect to serve jail time in both countries. It's no different than if someone committed crimes in more than one US state and they stand trial in multiple states and then serves multiple jail sentences back to back. In some cases if one region has stricter punishments, the different countries or municipalities may agree to let the criminal stand trial in the location with the stricter punishments.
