This kid is very special. After watching football for more than 45 years, the only thing I can say is " I have never seen a quarterback like Mahomes "
I remember when they traded up and the pick was about to be announced, announcers were saying it was going to be Watson. I remember thinking, I sure hope they take Mahomes. I loved Alex so much, he made us legitimate again. He just couldn’t quite get the job done. I hope he is able to comeback at some point. That year Mahomes spent under Alex was so important too. That wasn’t his job, but that is Alex Smith. It’s the reason I will always hold Alex in the utmost regard. As much as I respect Alex, Mahomes took us to a whole new level. I always wondered what it was like to have a Rodgers, Farve, Manning, Brady, or Brees under center for your team. Now I know, and it is a damn good feeling.

I've been a chiefs fan for 28 years.we've always got a free agent veteran from another team ( Montana, bono , gerback, Green, Smith ..and on and on ) they were a free agent for a reason . If they were good enough, their Respective team who've signed them . It's like marrying someone else's ex wife. She's in the market for a reason... All those players Elvis grbac Montana Bono Etc including Alex Smith you're not going to win a Super Bowl with those players. Alex Smith could barely throw the ball 40 yards. You need a quarterback who can push the offense down the field. Just like Tom Brady does with the New England Patriots. They won Super Bowls because of their quarterback.

That year of the draft I was hoping they'd draft Mahomes over Watson after watching both of their tapes and they were both great QBs in college but Mahomes definitely won me over and glad the Chiefs traded up to get him!

Who the hell was that idiot who said he didn't have good footwork? He doesn't have traditional footwork, but some of the best footwork to make the throws he wants to, in the history of football. That guy should be fired, that comment was that bad.
11matt11 exactly! Quarterbacks aren’t as simple as copying and pasting. Just cause your quarterback had good footwork doesn’t automatically make him a good quarterback. What works for one guy isn’t gonna work for everyone. You can’t teach clutch.
@@tristans_ Actually you're dead wrong. Footwork is everything, especially in any type of offense. At Texas Tech his receivers expect the ball to be out on a certain step in his drop back because everything is timing. One step to early and its a pick, one step to late and it's a pick. NFL it's all the more apperent because everything again is about timing except it's amped up. You watch Montana and Young and both had the same footwork because that's what Bill Walsh predicated his entire offense around.
Coming out of college he really didn't. People like you don't realize how much coaching this chiefs staff has put into Pat. Like I told the other guy, everything about being a quaert back is about timing and that's something Mahomes struggled with in college because of his footwork. Watch the tape of him at Tech and this year. At tech he often let his back foot drag and rarely stepped into his throws which shows how insane his arm is. But now watch him and everything is crisp and clean. So now if that guy is fired should Kingsbury be fired? He did coach him in college after all and even said his footwork could improve.
@@osu5inarow While I'm not gonna disagree with you on any of that really, I don't think you are looking at the full picture. You gotta remember Mahomes came from a baseball background and thats where a lot of his footwork came from. He relied on his own throwing skill to make up for the timing aspect of his footwork that you were talking about. And it worked. All I know is it's pretty exciting to watch that baseball come out in his football play, and a lot of his highlight plays so far are when that baseball in him comes out.
@@dozerboy752 That's because he was properly developed. You look at his tape coming out of Texas Tech and his footwork was horrible. Part of that was a lackluster offensive line but also that was on him. Texas Tech doesn't rely so most on timing with footwork rather you have to know who's doing what and where. In the NFL, everything is timing. For example with Bill Walsh by Montana's third step Jerry Rice on a given play should have already made a move and gotten to his place in the route. One second to slow and it's a pick and one second to fast and it's a incomplete pass.
If he does this the whole season he’s gonna be the MVP

Thing is, they developed him the right way. They gave him a veteran to learn behind while they continued to build around him. You look at this offense and it's tailored made for the guy. You have a Tyreek Hill who can stretch the field deep, you have a freak in Kelce who can dominant the middle and red zone, Watkins who does a little bit of everything, Hunt who is the definition of all around and lastly but most importantly is the line. This line just clicks with how well they not only protect him but they're the reason why the run game is so dangerous which in turn opens the passing game where you can tell him to let it loose.
