    In this video, I go through the eight major steps to get a federal government job. You can use this general guide whether you are a prior government employee, transitioning military member or anyone completely new to the federal hiring process. Unfortunately, the government hiring process can be ambiguous at times and it helps to have an understanding of what is required and what should be expected along the way. Are you planning to get a federal government job? Let me know down below.

    getting referred is hard when you have to compete with veterans who get points lol I've gotten tons of "you're eligble, but not referred due to vets who get priority" oh well, back to the job hunt!

    Your end-of-video reference to your other videos is smooth like butter. You’re a natural at this. Thank you for the awesome content as always.
    I’m a federal employee currently trying to move up through the GS scale and your videos have helped tremendously. My resume never looked sharper. I’m almost embarrassed to look at the version of it that landed my current job 😅

    I am a current Federal employee applying for jobs 2-3 times a week to every other week, I make it to step 5 of referral that you talk about and thats as far as it goes. USAjobs frustrates me time and time again that i'm on the brink of giving up and staying at a job i'm not happy with. I've been applying for jobs ever since I finished my 2 year probationary period that new federal employees have to go through. which now i'm on year 3 almost 4 of applying for jobs and still have nothing new. I told myself I wasn't going to stay at my current job past 2 years and leave for a new one after finishing the probation period. I hit my 4 year mark at my current job in a couple weeks and i'm still at the same job.

      Can you increase the amount of times you are applying or are you focused on a specific area with limited jobs? If you stuck at step 5 then you need to try to improve your resume to get selected for an interview. Spending more time tailoring the resume to match the "Specialized Experience" section of each job announcement should help.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@armandcuret1 For the time being i'm just focused on a specific area which is in the field i'm in currently. But if i'm able to get this one GS-7 position that i've been getting referred for same position, variety of locations, I have something I want to really do that I can't do at the moment because partly requires specific training/license which is quite expensive and I cannot afford it on my current pay with my current job.

    Armand, just wanted to take time to thank you for your great information. I got a temp offer from an agency. It's a long process and I will keep you posted if I do get a final offer. Until then I keep applying. You're the best!

    I am a federal employee, I have been applying for a promotion, and I even paid professional that writes federal competitive resume I have not been best qualify, the KSA'S is what is getting to me. Nobody knows which KSA'S have the highest points to make it to the best qualify.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  Рік тому +1

      I would try to strengthen your achievements in your resume that speaks to the KSAs. Being "best qualified" will often come down to how you are quantifying and explaining your achievements in your resume and how relevant it is to the job announcement.
      Another option is to open up your job search to include other job series/agencies.
      Wish you the best.

    If you are on step 7 due to waiting on the PNSB committee to determine your salary. Can you still interview for other positions? I’ve declined them because I didn’t want to cause any weird feelings. Or should continue to interview within the VA?

    Hi Armand,
    I'm currently on step seven of the hiring process. I have been on this step for over a month and have not started my background check. Do you know how long it normally takes to get through steps seven and eight? I haven't heard back from the staffing agency about the next steps. Thanks for all the great content!!

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  Рік тому +1

      If it has been over a month since your tentative job offer, I would email your HR point of contact and ask them for a status update and if there is anything you can do to move the process along. If you submitted all of your documents, then it could be either 1. The security team is backed up or understaffed 2. There could be a budget issue within the agency pertaining to the job position.
      Try to communicate as much as possible with HR and in the meantime keep applying to other jobs.

    Isnt there a test such an aptitude, skill or performance test?

    • @armandcuret1

      Sometimes there are online assessments for job announcements. But the old aptitude tests from years ago no longer exist.

    Is it normal to have your reference check first? What s next after that?

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  Рік тому +1

      HR contacting your references is a positive indicator after the interview. If you are selected the next step would be the tentative job offer.
