I think you confuse Needle ballistic and gain reduction here. If you want to "mimic" La2A with reacomp, you need to set a larger RMS size (like 10msec) so the low end remains more transparent. Try to add saturation BEFORE the reacomp And always keep in mind that the release curve of the reacomp is linear and cannot be changed. Where LA2A release curve is logarithmic. You can "somewhat" mimic this with auto release and/or parameters modulation, but it will never be "the same thing". All that being said, analog compressor are great for tracking. In 2025, there's no added value to use analog like comp for mixing, it's just commercial bullshit. Last : "sounding like a la2a" is and always be a commercial slogan. Did you ever compared an analog LA2A with Another analog LA2A? They all sound different depending on the release date, the component, the usage,...
@Daysofsamara Hey thanks for the detailed information here! Good suggestion on the RMS to make the low end more transparent. Definitely a work in progress here, and I’m aware that using ReaComp with Saturation will never get ‘that’ sound. But for someone looking to just play with stock plugins, this can at least give a starting point at which you can adjust to taste to get closer to an LA2A than not! Thanks for the watch and sharing some useful information!
Nicely done.
@WalkinonSunshyne Thanks! Glad you got something out of the video!
Thanks!! New sub
@jumpingship1531 Thanks! Appreciate the watch and sub!!!
Great Video! Would it be able to make a video about gain staging and the first stages of a mix (balancing levels) in the future ?
@georgekefalas6760 I’ll keep that in mind for a potential future video! Thanks for the recommendation!
