With plug-in compressors it's better to forget them and investigate the arrangement, sound selection, groove and melodies until you like what you hear.
The tube plays no role in the compression. Solely for makeup gain. Hence, it is NOT a tube compressor. It's an optical compressor that has a tube amplifier. The LA3A is the same thing, but without a tube amplifier.
