5,791 Palestinians have been killed since Oct. 7, including 2,360 children. I'm glad you're brave enough to speak up.

Only a few mins into the vid but thank you sm for speaking up 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸 literally brightened my morning to hear your advocacy for the Palestinian cause. SFF writers have such power because SFF itself is such a massive tool for empathy and I carry this responsibility as a poc SFF writer myself and seeing others on booktok and booktube not share it has been v frustrating

it might be that a character that has it coming has more agency than a character that is just a victim. If they know why it's happening they likely brought on the circumstances that created the horror through choices they made. It could be that the sense of agency increases the horror for a few reasons. The horror could have been avoided had the character made a different decision, and the character, through their choices, becomes a participant in the horror happening to them. But idk, what do y'all think?

I think this is a really solid point! a less helpless, more competent character being overwhelmed could be more relatable

I’m a newbie to horror writing. I think my novel WIP will be YA horror instead of Adult horror like I originally thought. But the basic idea is something I’m adapting from a horror TV pilot I wrote. I am in the early stages of drafting the novel. Thank you for your insight! 💜📝
I love THE HACIENDA and VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE both written by Isabel Canas! I love Gothic horror.

You are my comfort channel and inspire me in so much ways to finally start writing my first novel and while I’m not going to do traditional publishing because I am quite young I will be posting it online. Keep up the great work and you’ve earned yourself a new subscriber. ❤

      1) utilize primal senses like touch and taste to create a sense of unease. Also, mix senses or write unexpected sensory details, eg. an attractive woman smelling like rotten meat.
      2) make the situation of the horror personal to the POV character, giving them a personal stake in the conflict. you could possibly make it so that the protagonist 'had it coming' in some way
      3) use environmental cues to foster ambiance! strange noises, sudden silence, and general unknown elements in your surroundings.
      4) turn your main character into the monster, or have them turn out to be the monster all along.
      5) keep your story short and sweet-horror thrives in short form fiction!
      6) make your characters experience small physical discomfort, eg. mosquito bites, sweat and extreme temperatures, etc. relatable details allow the reader to root themselves in the PoV character's body
      7) write an ironic voice, or a sassy narrator. when the big 'oh sh*t' moment comes, the narrator's voice can shift from uncaring to frightened, making the moment even more jarring!
      8) tighten your PoV, make your story intimate. really close third person or first person narration can make for a really strong horror story.
