The city of Los Angeles is the game board as five teams of college students attempt to win "The Great All-Nighter", a dusk-to-dawn competition dreamed up by an eccentric graduate student. David Naughton and Stephen Furst are paired with a grab-bag group of fellow students including Michael J. Fox in his first film appearance. The film was directed and written by Michael Nankin and David Wechter.
The stop motion animation program Robot Chicken (shown on Adult Swim) has featured brief homages to Midnight Madness. In the first episode, two scenes from the film are reenacted, one where Leon reveals himself to the team leaders, another where Blue Team member Barf assembles the letters of a clue into the nonsense word "Fagabeefe". In the second, the chant of "Meat Machine" is reenacted.

This video deserves way more views. Grew up with this movie basically on repeat on HBO. Impressed by the amount of effort to not just find the locations, but find the same angles and compare them to the original. Really amazing!
Thank you! The best way for that to happen is to like and subscribe! I too checked the TV guide every month hoping it was on again cause i loved it so much, i was right in the demographic they were going for. Glad you enjoyed it!
It's so cool all these years later seeing people with the same memories unlocked as me from the 80's.
I loved this movie so much as a kid. They seemed to show it on HBO every other weekend back in the mid-80s.
Thank you so much for all of the trouble you went through to make this. Subbed!
Me too, it was a huge part of my childhood. Thank you for subbing!
This is amazing. Huge fan of this movie and still watch it today. Thanks for your time and detail putting this together
This is so awesome! I literally just finished watching the DVD. I loved this movie so much as a kid, we had it on a VHS recorded from HBO 😂. I'm always shocked when anyone else says they've even seen it
I own it on DVD too! 😆
Yeah, been trying last few months to remember what it was; all I could remember is a bunch of kids on a scavenger hunt and that nerdy guy grabbing the waitress's necklace and saying, _"HUG ME!"_ in that nasally voice of his.
Same here. Saw this a lot on HBO back in the day.
I loved this movie. Summer days in the pool followed by snacks and this flick on HBO. I miss it. This is very cool thank you.
One Of My Childhood Favorites...Michael J. Fox was 14 years old a year later was on Family Ties ...Alex P. Keaton after 2nd season he started filming Back to the future
My favorite movie. Thank you!
Awesome!! Its mine too!
We are doing a screening of Midnight Madness on November 4th at The Frida Cinema in Santa Ana, CA. A number of the cast members and at least one of the directors will be attending for a 43-year cast reunion. Event information will be posted on The Frida's website in a few weeks.
Nice job with this! I recently found out that there is a documentary being made about the film as well. From the same people that just did a Clue doc...
No way!! That’s awesome, thanks for the info. And for the comment
Show me the way to this doc! Must see!!
Thank you for this, one of my all time favs! One of my happiest memories Is when my family and I went to LA. And my daughter stops on the Hollywood walk of fame in front of Mickey's Star looks down and says "maybe it's in code?" I've never been so proud. ❤️😆😅
Outstanding video! Thank you!!!
The way you sounded just like him when you said, "HUG me?!"😂
🤣🤣🤣
What an awesome video!
I've been waiting for someone to make this video!!! Thank you!
Great Job. Lots of Fun!!!
Thank you and thanks for watching!!
I just watched this movie for first time in 40 years. I can't believe how much of it I remembered from when it would play on HBO in the 80s. I was looking for the disco song that was playing when Peggy and LuLu were dancing (Someone New) but I don't think it exists. Anyway, I found this. I lived in LA for 15 years, and most of these were recognizable. Good job!!! 👍
Yeah I have lived here for 22 years now, and would pass Johnies all the time thinking about doing this, It was a blast to find all the locations! Thank you for watching!!
@Cinema B-Side my friend filmed a movie Jawbreaker in 99, there was a scene in the parking lot. 90s Hollywood was so much fun back then. Watching your other vids. Thanks.
Hey, Todd - awesome job on this video! Great detective work, production, and editing. You got almost everything right - amazing! You're correct that the piano museum was actually a piano store, but as I recall it was not in town - it was way out in some suburban location and was in a flat, one-story building. It is true that the miniature golf course and Pinball City were at the same location. To my recollection it was at a miniature golf course (with amusement arcade) just off the 405 (or was it the 170?) freeway in the San Fernando Valley. I really admire all of the work you put into this fun video - your recreation of the shots was brilliant! Hope you can make it to the screening November 4th at the The Frida Cinema in Santa Ana!
WOW! Kudos from the writer/director! I cant believe it!!!!!! Yes we now know the Piano Museum was in SFV, Kurt from 80slife found it last minute while he was creating his UA-cam video!!! I MOS DEF will be at the screening. Thanks so much!!!
This is one of my favorite 80's movies also Had Dirk Blocker.. ( The Office) and watership down ( cartoon)
They could have filmed miniature golf world at 2 locations because the Ventura Golf N Stuff match pretty well. Also Ventura has a road in front of the castle.
If you look closely you can actually see Harold’s car drive by in the background right after he talks about him at 4:35
No way!! I didnt even notice this myself 🤣good catch!!
At the 14:15 mark when comparing parking locations to the Big M on the castle your placement is more horizontal to the M in the movie scene. They would've been off to the left or right somewhere else and with the fence in the way we can't see anything else to confirm or deny this is the site.
That one is the wrong one, i was showing that the Golf n Stuff in Norwalk was not the right one. It has been confirmed by one of the directors himself that the location I found is the correct one. The Malibu Castle in North Hollywood that burned down in 1998.
@@cinemabside yeah, plus checking for myself revealed there were many miniature castles with extremely similar designs right down to the windows and rail that held the M.
I think "Greenies" is actually pronounced, "greens". The last e is probably silent. Also; the yellow "jeep" is a Toyota Land Cruiser. And then when you say they moped-ers sre going the wrong way; if you look at the arrows ahead of them; both lanes have arrows pointing the direction they're traveling. Excellent video just the same!
Yeah I took a stab as to what the store name was. I couldn't find ANY info on it what so ever. So who knows 🤷♂They refer to it as a Jeep in the movie so thats what people would know it as (I know its a Toyota Land Cruiser) and I'm talking about where the white team travels from (Center Way South) not where they end up. They turn off Center Way and end up (the correct way) on East. The LAX street are confusing to say the least 😂 Thanks for watching!! I'm so happy people are finding the video and sharing the love of Midnight Madness!!!!
@@cinemabside Oh, my mistake.
I miss Malibu Grand prix, still got my license
Did you actually attend the North Hollywood Malibu Grand Prix?!
@Cinema B-Side Ahhhhh just realized they had more than one location ..I know I went to the Northridge one I might have went to Noho one, those were the days. Good video btw
Isn't that Kirsty Alley's friend from Look Who's Taking?
Isnt who Kirsty Alleys friend from "Look Who's Talking?"
@@cinemabside the redhead talking to the baby Vince Vaughn thinks is waving at him. Maybe it's a multidimensional rift... Maybe it takes place in the Look Who's Talking Verse. Lol
@@cinemabsideWatching it more closely I don't think it's her.
This movie is impossible to find streaming.
Yeah it’s not streaming but I purchased it from iTunes
So i came from the "80's life" video and does it seem like he just copied your video almost word for word at some points? 🤔 so odd
Omg is almost word for word. 😮
Too bad the guy who played Finch is in prison for life for child molestation
Fagabeefe
Hey Melio Fagabeefe! 😆
I think that was one of the funniest scenes in the movie, other than seeing Barf and Melio playing "Heart and Soul" at the piano museum.
Outstanding job on this! Subscribed!
Here's some more references. If you remember some episodes of the first season of Robot Chicken, there were recreated clips from various scenes in the movie.
