    Can a car that's nudging 100 years of age be a daily driver? Of course it can, and we're here to prove that point with this utterly stunning 1925 Bentley 3.0 4 1/2. A car that even today, a century on, is bought by people who plan to do nothing but use them and use them properly. We took ours to Brooklands, an historic site that is intrinsic to the history and the rugged nature of Bentley Motor Cars.
    Filmed with thanks to Brooklands - We encourage you to visit the site, and to tie in your visit with one of the many incredible events it has planned. Find out more here - www.brooklandsmuseum.com/what...

    I love running something out of the ordinary as my daily drive. Currently a 1954 Ford Popular 103e, essentially a pre war car, which does very nicely. I get odd looks turning up at the local tip loaded up with garden rubbish, or at the feed merchant loading up with poultry food. Squeezing a drum kit in can be a challenge. I don't think 'I can't do that with the Popular', I think ' how can I do that with the Popular'.

    I drive my 1953 Morgan +4 daily, and have done for nearly 3 years. its a lovely thing, powerful, fast and comfortable, except when its sub zero but I still drive it anyway.

    I've daily driven my 62 Austin Healey Sprite, for everything including trips to the hardware store rain or shine. Because it's driven significantly, it runs perfectly like a normal daily driver. For all who are of a similar mindset, enjoy your cars and drive them!

    Superb. It's a different set of challenges running something older daily, especially something like this, and a whole different set of rewards.

    I have to love the fact that both the word 'capacitor' and the speed '88 miles per hour' were used in a video that is essentially about travelling back in time 100 years!

      Amazingly pre-war cars tend to be very affordable compared to other classic cars
      There are plenty of classics out there that aren't Bentleys :)

    The real problem with driving an old car in modern traffic is down to brakes and most of all if its raining a lot of bigger old cars can keep up this the traffic but if you need to stop suddenly that can be a problem my answer to this would be to fit modern brakes as long as it is done in such a way that it could be changed back I see no real problem with that.

    I love Bentleys. I'll never afford one, I just go and lick the windows at the local dealer. This sort of video allows me to live vicariously through you guys. Thank you!
    Now if you'd be kind enough to do Le Mans in the Blue Train (or a replica) I'd be a very happy man!

    My 1932 Morris Minor Two-seater gets taken out three or four times a week for a good 30-40 mile run. Only last week I drove almost 600 miles over 5 days to attend a touring weekend in Suffolk. It didn't miss a single beat for the entire trip.

      Lovely, great piece. My dad ran his 1935 3.5l Derby Bentley daily, 1960s & 1970s, as a kid, I so loved it, used for camping holidays with roof rack & trailer. If you want more proof of other similar mad folk who run old cars every day (and then race them) go to a VSCC or Bentley Drivers Club race meeting.

    He said it in the first 30 seconds. It will keep up with modern traffic. Try using my 1935 Morris in modern traffic with it's 40mph top speed. As a car to nip down the pub or local cafe, great, daily driver on main roads, definitely not.

    "the only thing that limits what you use a car for is y̶o̶u̶ money". While there are affordable (100+ year old) year old cars, daily driving a car requires insurance. You will be hard fetched to find any insurer who will allow you to use such a vintage car as a daily and those that do will cost you an absolute fortune. There was someone years back that did a 365 Days of A (Model A Ford), but they also worked for Hagerty. Paul Shinn did something similar, but famously commented about how its the same cost for year of similar cars that are of "collector vehicle lifestyle" insurance to insure one individual car for daily use for a single month. I would 100% drive a Edwardian vehicle myself if my wallet could stomach such an endeavor.

    A beautiful machine. The only thing I’m surprised at one thing! Where are your air filters for your carbs! It will stop so much muck getting into the cylinders.

    • @paulmanson253
      @paulmanson253 3 місяці тому

      Every photo I have ever seen of those cars is the same. No air filtration. Lots of period motorcycles,the same. And yes,a massive difference in wear, depending.
      Given the cost of rebuilding one of these engines,you would think fitting some sort of filter would be a bright idea.

    Beautiful but where’s the hi flow air filters on a daily driver ?

  • @austinswallow
    @austinswallow 2 роки тому +1

    Great, my daily driver is 1934 Austin 7, a baby (literally) by comparison! Your fuel bowls on the SU carburettors are on the wrong side, should be forward of the carb body, so that when going up a steep hill, the fuel supply will be positive, the way it is on your car could mean that there is fuel starvation. Should be easy enough to swap over!

    Wonderful car and video but that speedometer needs urgent attention !.Would be normally rock steady , looks like excessive grease from the cable has found its way into the instrument.

    • @pashakdescilly7517
      @pashakdescilly7517 4 місяці тому

      It is probably a Chronometric speedometer. They are supposed to do that.

    • @Roger.Coleman1949
      @Roger.Coleman1949 4 місяці тому

      @@pashakdescilly7517 No , they definitely are not meant to do that !.This instrument does not have a chronometric movement , it is the same type used on every pre-war R-R car, we have one and it is rock steady and accurate .As said, excessive greasing of the cable or oil worked up from the gearbox, is interfering with the mechanism.

    Just wait until fuel prices get even worse. even here in America most have already started to drive their classic cars and make them daily's again. otherwise EV is the only other option. unless you want to get soaked on a Motocycle.
