Very interesting Tristan. It is good to see that you involve members of AWOL's crew in your videos because a) it gives a better understanding in what they do, b) gives a chance to meet them and c) shows how complex each of the processes are and I am sure there are many in the management of a super yacht. You and the crew make it look so easy, but I guess it is a culmination of training, experience, and trust. Thank you, Tristan, great videos.
I absolutely love your channel and what you do. I’m a 100 ton Captain here in Miami FL for over 7 years and I’m 24 years old. I run yacht charters here and it’s refreshing to see what it’s like on a mega yacht from your point of view keep up the good content! I showed my deckhand this video and he is forever grateful :)
I grew up in the water, and im lucky enough to be able to finish all my courses at 18 while still in school. My dream to have a career in the yachting industry
Great video. I love these videos showing not only what needs done, but also the sounds of the water, the communications, the teamwork - absolutely fantastic...
Great video of another m/y Awol work station. I’m learning so much about the different departments. If the only I was 25 years younger, I would love this life.
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Andre! Very glad to meet you, finally! Interesting, informative and educational! So glad to have met you, Andre! Watching from Los Angeles, CA Steve Miller.
I have been watching this channel for a long time, saw all the videos and never got bored. Thank you Tristan for this sharing and good luck to the captain and the crew of the Awol. 🙏🙏👍👍
I just wanted to say thank you for your videos im learning every day at the sea and your videos are fabulous I started working on boats as soon as I turned 18, I love this job! I work in a small charter and a part time skipper, I'm turning 23 on the end of this year, on Monday I'm going to arrange my yachtmaster A license so looking forward to work on a yacht some day you are a inspiration!
Great crew. All about team work. My husband and son want to do deckhand courses and I would like to do the stewardess courses. Great content and so informative
Tristan, whatever you do next I hope you will still vlog. You are very calming and pleasant to listen to. If you and Giv are going to travel I'm sure we would love to see vlogs of that.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Would like to see more of this content. Daily duties of different members of the crew. You have a GREAT JOB CAPTAIN 🧑✈️ ENJOY‼️👍👍⛴. Vinny 🇺🇸
Good Afternoon ( Arizona time) Andre and Tristan. We absolutely love these type of videos ! Thanks also FOR NOT OVERLAYING any of this vid with music. It's so much better for those of us that have done yacht charters already to be able show vids exactly like this one to noobys that have never chartered before. We watched this just now with some friends that we are trying to convince to go back to Italy with us in 2022. They say they'll most likely go - hence , you two are epic salesmen ! Lol Cheers from Arizona
Hey just wanted to mention that on the tv show "Below deck-medetrainian " they had an episode where the Captain of that ship learned the hard way that you shouldn't have crew on the back/beach deck when you tow another boat. They had the tow rope wrap around a crew member's leg and drag him into the ocean and if it hadn't been for a quick thinking member of crew, cut the line, which saved the guys life and his leg from being amputated. I hope this information helps.
There was no risk of getting the line wrapped around the leg. The line is coiled very precisely and I was always standing behind the line. So no "below deck" scenario 😉 we changed the procedure to leave just last few meters of the line to avoid possible snapback. In case the line would fail and snaped back I will be already up on the deck. On the video I was holding the line until last meter to avoid getting it in to proppeler, but after discussion with captain, the procedure has changed and I leave the platform before line get into a tension. Hope all clear now. We learning every day 😉 thanks guys ✌️
@@ondrejcizmar5649 It was the line getting wrapped around your hand that worried me, it happened to me in 1986, and I went for a swim in the North Sea without a life jacket in December. I know it sounds unlikely to ever happen, but it did to me and I know of many incidents where people get caught in lines being paid out. Safest option would possibly be a winch, but probably not very aesthetically pleasing on a yacht. Anyway, thanks for replying, keep up the good work.
Tho I've worked on Tug boats an sailing ships job remains the same ! Team work good communication an knowledge of many jobs.. makes for efficient ship mates!! Great team Captain, thanks Andre enjoyed your view great job. ✌🏻💗😊❣️
Good videos and I like to see more forward views from the bridge while under way, because it looks real good in my VR glasses & I want to use this as my screen saver thanks.
Hello Captain, please do the same idea with the camera (departure and arrival) to engineering, chef, etc. It is very interesting all the jobs on those Yachts. Sorry for my English.
Thank you for your videos. I learn A LOT about Captain's job and life onboard because of you. God bless you. You give me the feeling of security on the superyacht. :-)
Hey, Thats was good to see what the deckhands do, I think would be good to see the same idea with the camera for what the Stewardesses do or engineer :)
Wonderful vidclip, fascinating to see All the Going-On's ..... From an earlier vidclip I could Clearly hear all the 'Japies' onboard. Coming from Cape Town, South Africa, it was not difficult to pick the accent..... Best wishes to You and The Team .... Tell the 'Japies' .... " Mooi Bly, Lekker werk, Groete vanaf Christchurch, NZ "... :-) :-) :-) ..... Cheers from New Zealand
Thanks for the Deckhand view, Capt. Mortlock. The momentarily splashy bow towards the end of the video made me wonder how seaworthy the AWOL is. There must be occasional surprise stormy weather in the Med. How well does the AWOL and the average 120 - 130 foot yacht handle?
Have you ever encountered a problem with the chase boat i.e. entanglement with something or sealife or...??? (I'm not a boat-person.) Just really enjoy your vlogs and have learned a lot. The chase boat just seems somehow "vulnerable" when in-tow"???
Tristan, how many feet of rope do you use to tow the chase boat and how long does it take to slow down coming into port to retrieve it without it hitting the back end of AWOL? Also wanted to know, when you do hit bad weather do you have to shorten the tow line?
Thanks for the great video Captain Mortlock and Andre. When Andre is calling out the port side distance between the vessels is the distance fender to fender or fiberglass to fiberglass ? Is the amount of tow line from the Mother to Chase vessel fixed for all sea conditions ? How is the amount of tow line determined ? Length & weight of the Chase vessel ? thanks & regards, James
Distance between vessels is very subjecitve, so if its from fender or fiberglass actually doesnt matter, 5 people would say different distance. We just try to guess our best and rather bitt less than more to be on a safe side 😉 @superyachtdream
Excellent video again and good to see another aspect of getting underway. Just one question though, what is the chase boat used for? I'm sure this has been covered already but I can't find the answer.
Brilliant vlog as always. What speed does she cruise at look quite a nice rate of knots in the video. Also if you was to put the throttle all the way what would she max out at. From my little knowledge I know they burn a lot more fuel fo full throttle but not a lot of more knots for the the extra fuel burn.
Happy to be seeing Superyacht Captain vlogs again -- missed them. Is Mike below correct? I thought it was just new crew, not new boat as well. What's up?
Tristan-We have been subscribed and liked your videos for some time now! In the comments, it appears that AWOL has been sold. And, at the right time we hope to hear more news from you. You have shown the Yacht AWOL a lot of love in the way that you have maintained her. You have done a great job! Watching from Los Angeles, CA Steve Miller.
Great insights, thank you for the vlog! Very impressive! Some questions: what is shown on the blac cubicle close to the spot, where you store the remote for the garage door? And: is the garage door somehow „fixed“ after closing - or are hydraulics enough? All the best and save trips!
What's going on now you said AWOL was sold, are you going on to another Yacht, it would be nice to see you go on to a bigger Yacht, you certainly have the skills to do so.
Hey supper yacht Captain can you do a video on how you Generate your Checklist Sheets and how you find out who to contact to go threw areas and print out that info please I want to know the fine details like that please do a video this would be helpful to me and others that want to own a supper yacht or become a Captain
Good video, I’ve never worked in the yachting industry, just the Fishing and Merchant Navy. When paying out the chase boat towline, would it not be safer for the Deckhand to just stand clear? Rather than paying out the towline by hand. Certainly most boats and ships I’ve been on the towline is deployed with everybody staying well clear.
@@SuperYachtCaptain Great news, it only takes a lapse in concentration and a rogue bight of rope to cause an accident. Speaking from experience after a dip in the North Sea in December.
