In this video, we look at the process of active transport. First, we compare this to diffusion and look at the key differences. Then we explore two examples of active transport that you need to know, one in animals and one in plants.
This video is based on the AQA spec. If you are following a different exam board then you should check your specification. The Amazon link above is an affiliate link. To everyone cramming all of Paper 1 biology in one night:
After this, you’re one playlist down. And it’s the biggest, too.
Keep pushing!
I literally have a setting test for triple or combined science tomorrow, and im trying to cram paper1 and paper2 tonight lol
@@astra7893 :( I'm so sad... I have no idea how to do any of this and I'm doing my GCSE's next year. :(
@@allasian452 lol same
All Asian I’m in year 11 doing mine soon and I still don’t know any of it😂oops
@@astra7893 omg same i have it tomorrow lol
this guy is an absolute hero; got me my A* in physics- cheers mate wouldn't have done it without you!
Well done!
Great work
I'm very happy for you, as a former fellow GCSE student.
I think this is biology tho
@@mrgoatliri6224 they’re probably talking about the other videos that helped them
Sir u deserve a nobel prize in education.Seriously mark my words. No one can teach us so easily like you do.Hats off to u sir👏👏💜💜
just wanted to say thanks for helping me get 3 A's in my science gcse's, your short but totally relevant videos which always get straight to the point made science revision far more efficient allowing me to revise for other things too. if you're yet to do your gcse's make sure to do past papers and questions to make sure you understand everything and good luck to everyone
Thank you for advise I am currently using a work book and past papers and these videos to revise. I am going for an A.
@Parl Jimin Do you mind me asking what grade you got?
Flexu ahh god bless you my friend!

didn’t get to read the whole thing straight away and just saw ‘your short’ on the top row lol thought u were commenting on his height
for real i've learnt more from him than my actual teachers

I can relate
This guy deserves a blessing from god, a noble price in education, more subs, and no dislikes... He's the type of guy that makes you want to stop saying "oh... I'll revise tomorrow".
literally, i was procrastanting for so long but shaun got me into revision and made it all worth it
saving gcse grades one video at a time. Thank you Shaun
K so I only just found this guy and my exams in 14 hours and 5 minutes

@@indumini4990 you are both very smart, im in y10 trying to revise 9 topics in a week for my mocks
Same I’m revising for end of year exams
Damn, I'm jealous. I never realized how important it was to revise until now in the end of Year 10, with less than a year for my GCSEs.
year 9 start of the year already doing it :'D
My guy you are such a legend, I'm in year 9 and can understand this.
Such an underrated gem 💎 hats off to you sir 👏👍

Thank you sir for helping me achieve As in core and additional science
did u get that by just watching his videos? or did u use other resources like the cgp books
i'm banging out your videos based on stuff we've been learning in science- you literally make everything so much clearer thank you
It’s kinda weird how I really didn’t watch this guy much in year 7 8 and 9, I mean I probably would have gotten much better grades if I did. But anyway I didn’t watch you much then but now I’m year 10 I’m watching your science videos every single night 😆
same XD
Keep doing this but don't stress it too much yet, I watched his videos 1 day before mocks and got 7s and 8s
You just described my situation rn
My exam is literally tomorrow this video was so last minute 😢
Best videos ever to revise from! Highly recommend to GCSE students, doing triple science or combined.
I got like 7 days left bruh i got TIEM

Ayee fam. Mine is tomorrow and all I've done is made notes on Cell Biology 🤦♂️ Good luck on your mocks.
How did you guys go?
Your helping me out so much with revision - a quick, informative video is so much more useful than trying to quickly navigate a textbook

i would totally recommend this channel for students taking combined sciences for GSCE, super helpful, and you are definitely better than my teacher... smh :)))
you’re saving my grade yes king

UNIT 1 COMPLETE! Thanks Freescienceguy!
Same, just finished. He's a blessing!
Just finished too
You are the only reason I’m actually passing science thank you
can you explain the differences between diffusion osmosis and active transport and describe how substances are transported into and out of cells by
diffusion, osmosis and active transport
Found out about this guy in the morning, now im at the end.(study leave gang) tysm
Brilliant man, thank you so much for all the help.

good kid
ur in year 9 just like me now lol
Hey sir, I'd just like to say thank you for making your videos and flashcards, I got my results on the 24th and got an A* in both physics and chem (but a B in bio) and my target grades were only As and before watching your videos i found it hard to revise science. I wanted to ask if it would be worth it to get the my biology remarked since I was 4 UMS off an A (and i somehow got a b and c in between an a and a* in the individual papers-i definitley thought the exams went better than that and this was the only overall B grade i got out of As and A*s) i used the same revision method for chem and physics so it was a bit of a shock to see my bio grade, im a bit too high into the B grade to drop down 36 UMS so i just dont know!! do remarks help or not?
Hi. Well done on your grades. I can't really give advice on remarks so the first thing I would do is advise you to talk to your teachers. However, as you've said, you'd have to drop 36 UMS to drop to a C, so what do you have to lose (apart from the remark fee)? Good luck.
Freesciencelessons thank you for your response ive emailed my teacher and i'll see what he says and also thanks once again for the help with science! i wish you could do A-Level videos like you used to have for the old spec but the new spec for GCSE is kind of a priority :)
This guy is saving my life
It's really great and we're so happy to enjoy the science with our kid
This man has got many teachable guts.Thankyou for removing from the struggle that I had.
He is so helpful I’m in year 9 and learning year 11 stuff so easily
Thanks sir, for helping us all to get good results in science.
THANK U SO MUCHH!! U explained it so well I actually understood it!!!
GCSE tomorrow and this is my first bit of revision. Going to be a long night
good luck
thank you sir for the straightforward experiments hope they will help tomorrow biology paper 3

where can i find past papers for co-ordinated science?
Do we need to know how Active Transport works i.e. the protein active sites for GCSE AQA Biology?
Do these videos cover a certain a exam board like AQA or edexcel higher/foundation or is it just particularly just the key information you need for all examboards
we need this guy and vsauce to do a collab
Thanks a million
got me an 88 thank you i love you more than anyone
This guy is my new best friend.
Science dad.
Thank you so much Sir. I have my GCSE biology paper one tomorrow. This really helps :)
less than 3 hours now!
how did you do???
Hi sir do you have Pdf copies of all of the content in each video for each science ?
Hi sir, just been to your website and I don't understand something, if you videos will be done for paper 1 and 2 content will be done for these GCSEs, why do you have over 100 videos to plan, film and edit after, are out doing a-level or maths teaching?
very useful pal!!!!
I love this guy
Hi sir,
Sorry I'm just confused when I compare the net movement of particles of active transport to osmosis. So when you mean 'Active transport moves substances from a more dilute solution to a concentrated solution' isn't this basically osmosis? So what is the need to move it against the concentration gradient with energy when the spontaneous process is already happening without the input of energy? OR Do we not use osmosis for root hair cells & absorption of glucose because osmosis only relates to the movement of water molecules?
2) I thought diffusion processes were involved when digested food products move from gut to the bloodstream, as the intestine has a concentration of high nutrients, in comparison to the bloodstream. When talking about active transport in relation of the absorption of sugars, is it only sugars that are ACTIVELY TRANSPORTED and the rest is DIFFUSED, such as fats & soluble nutrients can move directly across the lipid membrane?
Thank you
Hi. Osmosis specifically refers to water molecules and not anything else. For question 2, both active transport and diffusion will be used to move the products of digestion. Even though there is a higher concentration in the digestive system than in the blood, the transport must be very rapid, so both diffusion and active transport will be used. Hope that helps.
Freesciencelessons thank you so much
thank you sir!!
gcse biology paper 1 tomorrow gl everyone
Same I haven't revised for anything at all tbh
good luck bro
Lmao in an hour
Same
1 month exactly and I didn't revise at all.... this will save me (hopefully)
ThAnk you
Great!
Very helpful video but there is one question I would like to ask: Since there is a high concentration of glucose in the small intestine cells, and a low concentration in the bloodstream, would you still need active transport to transport glucose into the bloodstream, or could glucose just diffuse into the bloodstream?
Same for the root hair cell(root hair cell to xylem vessel)
im not shaun but i can say that it would just naturally diffuse into the blood stream which is the same with the root hair cell and also similar to gas exchange in the lungs
Are the ions from within the root hair cell transported to the xylem by diffusion? Likewise with the sugar transporting to the bloodstream.
Yes although probably a mixture of diffusion and active transport. Sugar transports into the bloodstream by active transport (diffusion would be too slow).
Thanks
whats the method of your teaching
am proud on you sir
Thank you good explanation
Thanks really help
I don't get it at 1:11
The particles go from higher to low concentration but have unequal particles on both sides
I thought the some particles will go to the low area of concentration so that
number of particles will be equal on both sides. So like equilibrium.
Sir plz explain
Normally, particles will diffuse from a high concentration to a low concentration until the concentration is equal. This does not require any energy input. However, if we want to move particles from a low concentration to a high concentration then we can. This is called active transport and this does require an energy input.
@@Freesciencelessons Thank you so much. The last comment u replied to me was 9 months ago. I watch ur videos almost every day. Ur a genius!!
bruh literally before i watched this, i thought active transport was where proteins gets made and transferred lol
What’s the carrier protein?
It drags the molecule into the cell
Thank you so much!!!
What does it mean by against the concentration gradient?
If it is with the gradient it is from high to low but against is from low to high!!! Hope that helps.
I understand everything perfectly😶
