Brings me back to the early 70's in my jr high days. My older high school brothers would be out on a Friday or Saturday night and I would invade their record collection. Headphones on and turned up to 10 listen to ELP and other great bands like Yes. I know every lyric and note of these songs. Helped me cope with the life of a 13 year old. Life is great today at 61.
I’m with you! 60 this year and still know all the lyrics too…..crazy to think how many times I listened to this album….. great times - enjoy my friend🤙🏾
In 1973, I drove my mom's 69 VW Bug which had an 8 track player with ELP album on it,(Trilogy) semi permanently! I bought it for 12 bucks from my friend Redi-Mix. I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this record. It was the first time I ever heard music on "audiophile" system and the sound was like nothing I had ever heard before...When that faint synth came in on the first track & those loud piano chords struck, I jumped! LOL Been a huge fan ever since. Their music never gets old...
First introduction to ELP was at a concert at my college back in mid 70's. Greg Lake was quite the vocalist and musician along with Keith Emerson. My favorite songs from them are Lucky Man, From the Beginning and Fanfare for a Common Man. Never seemed to get the critical acclaim due to them as a Prog Band in the 70's.
The album that introduced me to them, and to progressive rock all-together. Emerson remained my no.1 keyboardhero for years alongside Chick Corea, Keith was a fantastic player!

Brilliant! I went to a nightclub in Brighton some years ago and it was an alternative place. Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb came on and we were all dancing away, as best one could to such a track! Such fun.
Took my teen daughter to see this magnificent trio maybe 20 years ago, “who are these guys?” she asked. Then few weeks later, her high school marching band at halftime: Karnevil! She said: “ Omg, I know this…” OMG so proud…😁
You buy an LP, you start listening to the A side, you think "this is a bit commercial for ELP", and then you start listening to the B side and everything you thought until then disappears
First album I ever bought. I remember I had the house to myself.... along with it - Pop's stereo!! I carefully peeled the shrink wrapping off, slid out the LP and very gingerly placed it on the Technics turntable platter. Next came the Koss over-sized Micky Mouse ears headphones. I cranked the Sansui receiver to about 75... I could hear ever nuance, every note, every breath. It was, for all practical proposes, a religious experience. Then my step-father crept up behind me, which wasn't a difficult thing to do, and he kicked the back of the chair I had melted into. I jumped out of my skin! He was laughing so hard.... and then he pulled a joint out of his top pocket, smiled slyly and said "ELP goes much better with a little Red Bud." First time I ever got high with my step-dad... but certainly not the last. RIP Pops, Greg and Keith. I miss all you guys. P_.S. - If you're interested, Pop had a pair of Altec Lansing "Voice of the Theater" speakers to go with the other stuff..... He was a true audiophile.

In 1972, three albums came out that started out with a heartbeat, ELP, "Trilogy", Pink Floyd, "Dark Side of the Moon", and Jethro Tull, "Passion Play". Which one is best? I am in a quandary. I lean to the Tull, but this one is........AMAZING!
Remember, "Dark Side Of the Moon" actually came out in (February) 1973. They started recording it in the studio in June 1972 but it was released in the year after. Jethro Tull (A Passion Play), actually a 1973 release also, came out even later in the year than DSOTM. Earlier Tull albums like "Aqualung", "Stand-Up" and "Benefit", which are from the 1969-1971 period, show Jethro Tull at their best too. All their albums after Aqualung that I've heard are more overly complex, lacking melodic structure. Anyway, there's a LOT of masterpieces from many as far as actual 1972 released albums. A few: Neil Young, (Harvest), Todd Rundgren, (Something/Anything), Allman Brothers Band, (Eat A Peach), Nick Drake, (Pink Moon). This is stuff no rock collection should be without.
