I'm away working in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan at time of writing, so the companion video about the '1964 Theses on the Socialist Rural Question of our Country' will be out in 2 weeks once I'm back in Ulaanbaatar!
I visited the DPRK in 2014 and unlike most foreign tourists, I didn't go there by air but rather took the train from Dandong in China. That means we get to see a lot more of the countryside, though I don't remember any potato fields. Maybe they're mostly grown in the more mountainous eastern part of the country. The countryside between Sinuiju, Pyonyang and Kaesong was all just endless corn fields.
Potatoes are pretty undeamdning crops. so it would make sense However the mashinery used in their harvest doesn't like slopes very much. Keep in mind, that potatoes are a winter crop. planted in Autumn and harvested in spring, so there is a godd chance, that all the corn field s you saw are also used for potatoes.-
Were they really large feilds? I would love to talk to people involved in a real planned economy about using intercropping and alley cropping to minimize pest pressure and weather related crop losses, as well as reducing fertilizer requirements and increasing biodiversity
This is probably the best channel on UA-cam to find out anything specific on North Korea without any sensationalism or repetitive facts. Well done, DPRKExplained!!
It's literally dprk tourist approved points and they constantly ignore, dismiss, or downplay known issues with the DPRK. Once you accept that, this is literally the single best source for DPRK information because the western based sources are so terrible and I appreciate and support it because of that.
I am also autistic and I would join you. Have you seen Squirrel and Hedgehog yet? It’s a popular cartoon in North Korea which revolves around squirrels, hedgehogs, and ducks defending their homeland from weasels, mice, wolves and one fox. The wolves and fox don’t show up until later in the series. The music is beautiful and the animation is mesmerizing.
Nice one DPRK Explaned to learn about anything North Korea except politics and military Next time:my suggestions was: 1.DPRK Natural Forms(Landforms and Waterforms) 2.Dances of North Korea 3.Flora and Fauna of North Korea ☺️☺️
Except military is politics (you cant be a sovereign nation if you’re invaded and conquered or, say, the US stays indefinitely with its military posted there) and so is everything else for the matter. How each country decides on their mode of production, how things get made, how and to whom work is distributed, how the cities are planned and whats the goal os that planning, it’s all politics.
@@christopherd.winnan8701 Potato growth can be divided into five phases. During the first phase, sprouts emerge from the seed potatoes and root growth begins. During the second, photosynthesis begins as the plant develops leaves and branches above-ground and stolons develop from lower leaf axils on the below-ground stem. In the third phase the tips of the stolons swell, forming new tubers, and the shoots continue to grow, with flowers typically developing soon after. Tuber bulking occurs during the fourth phase, when the plant begins investing the majority of its resources in its newly formed tubers. At this phase, several factors are critical to a good yield: optimal soil moisture and temperature, soil nutrient availability and balance, and resistance to pest attacks. The fifth phase is the maturation of the tubers: the leaves and stems senesce and the tuber skins harden

Fantastic video! I have heard the adoption of a dependency on fertiliser and agricultural machinery being called "the American model." It's quite ironic to think US sanctions were used to directly hamper the model here. Long live the DPRK
