Whenever anyone criticises this movie, all we really have to do is show them this scene. It has everything we could possibly need with humour, action. excellent visual effects, an amazing theme and remarkable cinematography (especially that shot with the wolf on top of the flaming carriage).
Stephen Sommers has to come back and make The Mummy 4, Van Helsing 2 and 3, and continue the rest of the Universal Monsters. He basically redefined the genre of monster horror with three of perhaps the best monster movie adaptations of the last three decades. His choice of actors, screenplay, cinematography, visual effects, action, humor, comedy, and horror all blend so well together that even during the more action-filled moments, there’s a perfect blend of humor and horror thrown into them. Which makes me wonder something: why did he leave in the first place instead of ignoring a bad critical reception, a box office bomb, and just decided to keep going with his brand of monster movies? He would’ve made it so any monster film he did would’ve been pure gold.
The producers pushed him out if the editing of GI Joe, because of creative control differences. Then, Hollywood, in its infinite wisdom, rejected him for years till he independently financed Odd Thomas movie (2013). After that, he was done with the movie business all together. Hollywood thus lost the best adventure movie director to date (save for Norrington, Jackson and Spielberg). Another Hollywood brilliant idea is to push around and evict another genius Stephen- Stephen Norrington- the immensely creative director begind the first Blade and The League of the Legendary Gentleman. If Sommers is the Godfather of the adventure movies, Norrington is the Godfather of the entire Marvel adaptations and the MCU. Because- without Blade- no X-men, no Spider-man and nothing after that.
@@frenchcoupon3391 thanks a lot for this elaborate explanation! Such a shame has been in the recent years on Hollywood part. Luckly, we can always come back to appreciate even more marvels like this movie. Cheers!

I LOVE this movie. Such a good time. Awesome depiction of vampire monsters.... How did the two Vampires FLYING in the air not see there were two carriages??
I think it's because they were so focused on the one Van Helsing was protecting. They don't see Anna as a threat (she's a joke to them and their arrogance) whereas Van Hellsing is the real threat because he's already killed one of them. Obviously they'd think that the heavy hitter is protecting their target.
That scene in Van Helsing where the werewolf jumps on the carriage is a epic scene ! That werewolf was scary as hell he made me jump out of my seat !!!! I wouldn't want too piss that werewolf off on a bad day !!! All those werewolves in the film are badass and kick ass !!!!

Stephen Sommers did a spectacular job of creating the best looking vampires and werewolves from Industrial Light and Magic.
One of the best scenes I loved in this movie

Yeah, it would be known as the Sommersverse.

To think that Mummy 1,2 and Van helsing were produced by the same man. Stephen Sommers is a genius.
He is also a huge fan of the Universal Classic Monsters.
Doesn't surpruse me - they're all similar and fantastic classics.
I really wanted Sommers to do the Dark universe.
Then we need his ass back bc the movies today 😭😡 garbage!!!

1:19 there’s that trademark Wolverine scream! 😂😂😂
I don’t know why but I like carriage chase scenes in movies more than car chases.
Probably because they are not as common and thus have a more unique feel.
Same here.. Especially the Bram Stoker's Dracula 1992 carriage chase at the end of the movie.

I think the vampires on this movie are the best. And what about the werewolf. Pow!
I'd take that werewolf straight home and either train the evil out of him or feed him to death with dog treats.

Yeah and I totally spare him he looks so badass especially his design.

I love it when he turns around in the air and shoots the werewolf.
