I used to own a tattoo shop and we had an old man that would come down every day and sit and talk about everything. He'd bring whiskey and we'd do some shots after close. When he died, a piece of our shop went with him. R.I.P. Grandpa Gary.
a room is just a room until someone is in it and leaves it empty, that's what's great about the small towns, the coffee shops and bars, the regulars make those places special
Love how genuine and unique both of your expressions are as you take this musical journey. I can see when you feel the music. GOD is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.
Mel, you summed this up perfectly - you never know the impact you can have on someone's life even if it's just one conversation with a stranger you never see again. To me, this song reminds me of the Biblical verse "Do not be forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (Hebrews 13:2)"
Billy Currington's "People Are Crazy" was written by Troy Jones and Bobby Braddock. Troy was in Alabama and decided to take a little ride in the country. I was trying to think of three things you can't argue with, and I came up with "God is great; beer is good; people are crazy." I went back to the house, got my guitar and ended up writing several lines that wound up being the first verse of the song. I knew I had my first writing session with Bobby that next week, so I held onto the lyrics and melody to play it for him. I was a little nervous to write with him, because he's such a legendary songwriter. I played him what I had, and he said, "Man, I love it." It was Bobby's idea to make the guy rich and leave all his money to the kid he's talking to in the song instead of his own kids. I wasn't too sure about that idea, but I figured if you can't trust Bobby with your song, who can you trust?
Billy was born and raised in my hometown his family live around the corner from me. My kids went to school with him. The old man in the video is Mr. James Day he was all of us teenagers neighborhood dad He passed away a few years ago.
Shawn & Mel, y’all played this for me and commented that y’all should do a reaction. This is an awesome song!!! Wonderful message! Love y’all so much!!
This was a keen example of country music and the story telling and the impart of wisdom. This is why I believe more people can truly relate and benefit from classic country music.
You are impacting people. I’m one of those. I’ve been battling major depression for the last 6 months and today I’m finally having a good day. This video put a smile on my face and really eased my pain and made me forget for the time being. I love yalls reactions. I just want you to know that you both are helping individuals like me.
People get so busy in their lives they loose sight of what and who is important, especially for the elderly. It means more than you know just spend a little time and lend an ear to someone who may feel forgotten or neglected by those they care about the most.
That is so true Mel, you never no what a kind word will do and how it can change someones life for the better. True story, when I was 37, I was in the hospital on the one year anniversary, of my mothers death. I was in serious condition and suffering from the same illness that she passed away from. In the middle of the night I woke up in tears and was just miserable. The sweet old lady in the next bed over sat up and talked and comforted me all night, telling me many stories of her own life. Her name was Rose and we only had that one conversation, but it has stayed with me all my life. Billy Currington has many great songs, it would be a fun rabbit hole. He is from a little town not far from where we live, he is a big star in the area. As you drive into town they have a sign up that says "Home to Billy Currington" on the highway! :)
Mel, don't be embarrassed by tears. That was a great, bittersweet story. I'd never heard this song before (not being a country fan) but I really enjoyed it. And THANKS for your GENUINE reaction!
He didn't leave his kids any money because his kids never paid attention to him. Billy for just one night at a bar, show friendship, compassion, and the best time of his life.
This is why I love you both. Just like the song, the both of you speak so kind, send positive messages to us daily. It really dos make an impact and change your mood. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. Thank you
one of my favorite songs of all time...and Billy Currington had so many other great ones...you should check him out further..you wont be dissappointed.
LOL!! Never heard this before. There was a guy like this in our town. Looked poor as dirt. All-natural- type of guy. Died, and yup, a millionaire. After all you folks have been going thru lately, what a tune to turn up! That's right Mel. Yup, keep the reactions coming. We all need that musical chill. Thanks!!
My family and I live in a very very small Wisconsin town. We chose to move here because of the gentle simplicity of the small town life. I rarely visit the bar here in town, when I do the conversations pretty much go this way. Great job guys!! Love you!!! Thanks!!
The old man in the video was Mr. Day. His best friends dad. Jamie and Greg Day. He has passed since this video. They own Day Roofing in Pooler, Ga. I've played music with Billy and Greg in Savannah, Ga. On River Street as well.
You guys are so great! You have fallen under the country music spell. This song is a great example of why; Such great storytelling! The reason I love the video too, is that the dark haired girl from the bar that the old man danced with, is the same girl with Billy at the end when he went back to see his grave. Almost like the old man introduced the two of them and played matchmaker! Love the reactions guys! Keep it up!
Shawn & Mel, your reaction just impacted me. It's beautiful to see 2 people break down the emotion of recognizing how much power we have to positively impact the lives of our loved ones, friends and even perfect strangers. We need so much more of this in our country right now, and personally I think we have it in us to do it. Will be watching more of my Brother and Sista from another Mother and Mista! 🙂
I knew a guy who was well off with over a 100 acres and several cars and a house. When he died he left it to the conservation office to be auctioned off and the money given to them. He didn’t give his kids a dime of it bc they never had anything to do with him. It’s kind of like the movie grand torino
Oh wow! I was floating in the lake last weekend and listening to my playlist when this song came on...I thought to myself, this would be a great reaction song for y’all and others to listen to...and here y’all are! Loved your reaction!
Thanks for reacting to this song. I live down the road from Nashville and love REAL country music. This is one of only a few songs made in the last twenty years that I love. I'm not crazy about a lot of the so called country singers of the past twenty years but this guy is one of the good ones. This song has old country class.
That conversation meant more to that man than anything, that’s why u have to be kind to everyone!!! Let me down easy and Good directions are my faves by Billy!!!
Ok, instant fan here! It's true, country music has it's roots in great story telling. Love you guys, your reaction, your perspective, your fun... Much love to you all! Watch In Color by Jamie Jameson. Trust me. 😉
Thanks for sharing this moving story!! I think the moral of the story was... the people your closest to aren't always the ones who look after you the most.
FINALLY!!!! Thank You for reacting to my main man BILLY! I have asked so many of them to check him out.....I saw him live, and he sounds exactly like the video. Billy is also the kindest person, and yes I got to speak to him personally, one of the best days of my life....THANK YOU!!!!!!

Old wise men become old and wise by gradually becoming old and wise. Listen to them. They have amazing stories.

My barber who I went to for the last 26 years passed this year. It feels so weird going into that building without him there

When we realize that respect, love and honor is earned and not an inheritance; then and only then will we be deserving of such things.
Love how genuine and unique both of your expressions are as you take this musical journey. I can see when you feel the music. GOD is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.
Country Music is one of the BEST for telling a story, I don't care what anyone says.
Nobody worth their salt says different

Wow. Thank you for posting. 👍
Amen. We need more of this. People are starting the become selfish
Tis true brother
Country music is one of the best ways to tell a story ❤️
Billy Currington's "People Are Crazy" was written by Troy Jones and Bobby Braddock. Troy was in Alabama and decided to take a little ride in the country. Billy Currington can tell a story in his songs.
I knew a guy who was well off with over a 100 acres and several cars and a house. When he died he left it to the conservation office to be auctioned off and the money given to them. A stranger made more of an impact on him than his own children.
The best people touch people who need it the most, sometimes without even knowing it.
Always see others as Angels ... ❤️
