My hometown mall. I walked those aisles for 50 years, from a kid to an older person who walked there for exercise in the winter. My sister worked at the JC Penney's in highschool and college. I sent her pictures from inside when I got my Covid shots there. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
This mall was my childhood. I have soo many memories of running around with my mom, dad, and sister on Saturdays in the Early 2000s. 7:28 sat there countless times with my family as we snacked on the soft pretzel bites. The cheese you dip them in was so good. 7:47 there were benches here, the super heavy duty hardwood benches you show later in the video. I sat there a few times over the years, once with a friend while in highschool, complaining about my home life, lol. 9:03 this really was the main strip I remember the most. There was a GameStop (EB games) down that way on the left that I was always excited to go into, trying to get my parents to buy a game for me. Epic Loot was such a nice store. I bought a lot of comics there and it was my go to while it was open from 2015-2021ish. They had their Magic and D&D stuff going on out in the store fronts main floor, more so in the left side of the store, so not where you initially walk in during the video, but deeper into the store after you pass the EL that’s over the doorway there. Seeing the JC Penny empty like that is really bizarre. That place used to feel like SUCH a maze, as we used that entrance to the mall most of the time, so seeing it so empty is just weird. 22:26 HOT TOPIC. The iconic archway. Always loved going in there and looking at all the cool merch as a kid. I remember one time dad and me running up to the door just before they were closing one night and my dad begging them to let us in so we could buy some South Park figures I wanted. They let us in thankfully. LOL. Oh lord. Not the Spencer’s! Yes, I did wander to the back and look at all the naughty things, but honestly, my parents were also in the store and I was just following them, they didn’t really care what I seen, LOL. 36:28 that was a KB Toys at one point! I’ll never forget the sign and that archway. Man, so many memories. The tiles in the floor, the look, feel, and vibe, is just insane. Such a cozy and sweet little mall this way. I cherish so much all the memories I have here with my family. Thanks for the video.
I worked at the York Steakhouse and Electronics Boutique at this mall. It was my teenage years. So many fond memories. My wife worked at Sears, it was pretty much everyone in the areas home base. When I was a kid, it was Rykes. Don't remember much about it other than walking through it to get into the mall.
It's strange how Sears and Eddie Lampert always delay a malls redevelopment..He sat on the stores property hoping for a big money sale and probably trying to hold the county hostage until they pay the piper..and they talk about the mob..lol..great video Sal...
The Spencer's closed in January at the debartolo mall here in Tampa. One funny note, our sheriff is married to debartolos grand daughter. Thanks for another great video.
I miss Inian Spings in KCK and Crossroads Mall (Nebraska). Crossroads in Omaha was the last place I went with my dad before he died (1982). Indian Springs is where I saw Mad Max The Road Warrior. Also remember standing in a line to see what I consider the rebirth of Super Hero movies, Batman (Michael Keaton 1989).
Just found your channel today. This mall was local mall for me. F-in-law would give me 100 gift cert for this mall every year. I’d use it for Xmas clearance sales. I would get so much mall swag. Miss this place. Off to explore your other vids. I also worked at the the century iii can’t wait to watch that!
I grew up going to Winzor park mall in SA TX. When I was about 3-5 it had the most beautiful fountains and was a happening hot spot. In the early ninety’s when I was 14-16 they took out or never again turned on the waterfalls and it was going downhill already then turned into a flea market and eventually closed to the public but still remains in use today I believe.
I had family who were at that mall when the gang shoot out happened. I visited it a few times when it was on the way out. I heard it was used in the movie cloak and dagger as well.
I would go here every other week. I mainly remember after 2018 where me and my brother counted open stores versus closed. 11 open to 39 closed I believe. I would go to epic loot for fnm and remember opening a box of zendikar rising with my best friend. Got a flooded strand so that was fun
@sal just wanted to let you know that I'm hearing rumors about the Brookfield Square Mall in Brookfield Wisconsin shutting down its doors soon I was wondering if you would be interested in maybe making a trip up and filming it as there is no more security there on site so you're pretty much able to roam around anywhere really even in the back rooms so maybe you might want to consider it as I'm unable to because I don't have the proper stuff to film it and I don't have any way to edit anything yet so I was hoping you would maybe take the reins and come over to film it all I tried reaching out to Anthony but he was not interested I don't think so maybe you might like this instead where's the shot so I thought I'd relay that to you
You can almost feel the stench, of the notoriously awful characters looming, and lurking about, within the confines of this abandoned commercial dwelling. 😆 Take heed, and beware the likes of Drs. Lackobreath, and stay far away from the bowels of the 7th numbered stead. 🕶️👉
Your way off about the church area,,it was just a stepping stone, for a brief period, until new location opened up,,and it was mostly elderly people,,the gaming things were not used that im aware of,,,people donated alot of things to be passed along to someone that may want something like that,,,
The old adage "if you can't take the busted ribs, stay outta the kitchen" certainly applies to this log.
Top shelf stuff Sal. 🥇

Loved the witty narration throughout! Great tour, thank you Sal! Stay safe!
Sal, this was beautifully haunting. You are on fire.

Thank you so much for sharing these memories…you’ve made my evening! This is exactly why I do what I do. So we can all share and reminisce :)

I used to play costume characters in this mall at christmas time in the 2010s prior to covid and it's closure.

Holy cow thank you Sal!!!❤️ I live near this mall I used to visit it as a kid
How did I miss this!? I left Springfield OH in 2019, transferring to Wisconsin for work.
Outstanding explore Sam. This mall was great, just natural decay.
a perfect end to my wednesday night
Awesome video
I believe the Home Plate was where the Ild Navy used to be …
My hometown mall. I got alot of stories.
Same. I miss that Friendly's the most
Rikes became Lazarus which became Macy’s. When it was Lazarus, there was a restaurant upstairs called the Blue Fox I believe.
I think the restaurant that used to be in that space was called the blue fox, I remember my mom taking me there when I was little
Nice Rolling Acres shirt.

Here to watch just the mall but dang, missing the mob stories of Eddie D. Hehehe...
I really like this mall, the macys would have been nice to go to
I do recall the Lazarus had a restaurant but don’t recall what it was.
Nice video
The space that was maybe a restaurant in the department store looks more like a slaughterhouse where they dispatched the zombies. Lmao.

Most Lazarus stores used to have a resteraunt in them chances are the dojo room was the resteraunt and you were in the kitchen area.
Here you go, Charles. Subscribe or I'll fire Marna.
Nothing like getting the jabby jab in a decaying mall
i can honestly say I've never been in a Spencers or Hot Topic.
How much are the VHS tapes?

This was the Blue Fox Restaurant when it was Rikes.
Oh right! Damn, that's been awhile ago. I am old...
I loved Blue Fox, great salad bar...great memories. I think it closed in the early 2000's
I really like this mall, the macys would have been nice to go to
