  • Actress Victoria Rowell talks about “Shondaland” on ABC’s Thursday night saying “for an industry to pin an entire people on one woman is racist” because “there are thousands of black people, and brown people out there that can write, as well as Shonda Rhimes, but we will never know.” Rowell says if a person of color isn’t given access by the TV industry, they aren’t getting in.

    Why ask someone's opinion if you're going to talk all over them or cut them off?

    • @terryknight5869
      @terryknight5869 5 років тому +4

      Because they don't really want the opinion if they can't box someone into a corner or get the answer they want.

    Congratulations Victoria Rowell for having the courage & boldness required to go against systemic racism. Many people will come up with any reason they can to justify inequality because it is the norm & it's more comfortable & convenient to go with the flow. Keep on keeping on Victoria, we need more like you in Hollywood & in society who say 'Enough is enough' and then do something about it.

      Victoria talks about racism and the interviewer is rude, sarcastic, and apathetic. I bet the interviewer wouldn't be any of those things if Victoria talked about sexism.

    Victoria, I met you and love you. I was sad to hear young and restless say the N word...my man is black and it hurt me...glad you are speaking out...

    Bravo Victoria Rowell!! That host’s perspective was the equivalent to “I have a black friend!” She completely missed the entire point of the conversation.

    They gave Shonda more shows because she is killing it with the ratings. Never seen Y&R I'm a 33 yr old woman that has always worked so daytime shows r not geared towards me. Grey's has a white woman as the main character! There r other more diverse shows coming up but they don't get the ratings like Fresh off the boat, Blackish, Jane the Virgin, ect... This woman is just yelling racism. I don't see it. Is there some sort of conspiracy? Was Shonda just handed the shows on a silver platter because she is black? So did Tyler Perry lie about being homeless and never given a break but he powered thru anyway... WORK HARD lady life doesn't owe u anything. Make a Web series and enough ppl watch it and like it then u can be given a break too.

      ask to understand. your colonized mind will continue to accept bread crumbs and live status quo to what you've been given. The fact remains, people of color should be represented in fullness on and behind the camera. What shows have a strong Hispanic or Latino lead. Where are other cultures represented that are indicative of this varied American population. It's always people like you confusing standing up for truth and whining/complaining. If you choose to settle, fine. While you're doing it, please don't reap the benefits of those addressing systemic issues that are affecting people of color in this industry (Asian, Latin, Indian, African,etc). Have a seat and some quiet time

    I miss seeing Victoria Rowell as Druscilla Winters on Y&R. V.R. is being punished by the entertainment media for speaking about racism in the industry. What a strong and level headed woman.

    Victoria Rowell is right about the pending entire people on one person or two or three, four or five people in that industry. It isn't enough! Yes she married a white guy 1989 and that marriage ended in 1990. She married a black guy in 2012 and that marriage ended in 2014. She has two children one is black& white and the other one isn't. She is half white here self. She grew up in the foster care system from birth until she aged out at age 18. She isn't making this up. We have so many that are denial in the country. Other countries know how race wicked this country is and they feel it's unfair! And it is unfair!

    Call her racist, crazy, or a whiner but you can not say that anything she is saying is not true. THAT is the point.

    BS....She did not build the audience of Y&R..I am a black woman, and I was watching and loving Y&R WAY, WAY before her, and continued to after her. I'm sorry, but this woman is crazy. More diversity may indeed be needed in many areas, but networks have truly made progress with the examples that the interviewer gave, but Victoria Rowell doesn't want to hear it, because none of those projects include HER...and I'm sure with good reason!!

      Out of curiosity, what attracted you to "Young and the Restless" before it took on the stories surrounding the Barber and Winters families? Because for some reason, I thought when Nathan, and Dru, and Olivia, and Neil and Malcolm came on the scene that is when I heard a lot of reports that it was a show becoming increasingly popular due to the influx of Black American viewers, some of which were following Sally Sussman for her work on "Generations".

      @Erik I agree totally with what you are expressing! Likewise I would like to know what attracted MaryJ815 as well. I definitely remember how the rating took to an all time high when they Winter's story line increase , it definitely attracted more diversity and variations of generations became more interested!!

      MaryJ815 She and Tonya Lee Williams were hired as the first core African American characters linked to the Abbott housekeeper Mamie and Nathan in order to keep y&r (who had just become no.1) on top and build and hold the viewership of any existing black audience of whom watched their show and soap operas in general as well as attract and new black viewers which gave y&r an overarching edge and real life appeal as much as you can get from a soap. She did increase and hold the audience, and was responsible due to the popularity of Drucilla for Kristoff St John, Shemar Moore, the kids (lily, Nate, Devon) and all the other characters over the years that attributed to making the Barber Winters family a popular mainstay on daytime.

      MaryJ815 , my mother, grandmother and i are of Hispanic descent and we have been watching TY&R since it first appeared. They didn't have any Hispanic actors for a very, very long time but it did not bother us, it's a good soap opera, good actors and good story lines

      @@sunshinesprinkles1566 if you choose to settle for no representation then you don't get it. your colonized mentality won't get it and hinders progress. Stop being passive to the cause.

    There has never been a spinoff of any family from Y&R. Even B&B was not a spinoff, but was just created by the same family. She will never give credit...She's simply mad that SHE is not working, and has been for years...Obviously she's been blackballed, and I'm sure there is much more to her story as it relates to HER!!

    Hmm, I wonder how this female interviewer feels about sexism because the same tired rhetoric and attitude that this interviewer has about racism is the same rhetoric and attitude that some men and males have about sexism. Just saying.

    Joe I have had hundreds of white men and have no problem getting and keeping a man. That was a racist remark that I almost ignored. I have always preferred a black man and not for the reason you might think. So much prejudice was in my family and I let people control me. I was very unhappy with white men I am finally happy with MY choice of a big black man!

    • @MatrixThompsonPMN

      Kathryn, you need to edit out the comment you: "have had hundreds of white men". It is not flattering. smile.

    • @KATHRYN554
      @KATHRYN554 9 років тому +2

      Arlice Clarke Thank you but neither was Joe's remark.....I wasn't trying to be flattered but to state the truth.....Many would say that being with a black man is not flattering to me but for once, I am happy! I have a book written that tells my story of my destructive behavior and I told it on national t.v. That is why I make a strong stand against prejudice issues! No one should have to date a race, gender or the same religion because of family or society pressure.....that was my point I hoped to make! We ALL should be free to choose who makes us happy without getting on a destructive path as I was on for years......
