Some of the important aspects about the word stress: To get command on the topic, the important fact is to learn , what is the correct spelling of word and it's pronounciation (ie which consonant /vowel has to stressed ) . The pronounciation can be known by entering the word on Google site for its meaning and by clicking the Mike symbol adjacent to that word. Another thing is that American English and British English are little bit different . The pronunciation and spellings are also at variance. Some letters are silent in American English and where as in British it is different( even meaning also sometimes differs) . That's why the word stress differs from One Country to another Country and there is no hard and fast rule, even though certain rules were framed in grammar for word stress ( I presume!). However, generally we Indians consider and follow British English as a standard One. Now a days the English language is so diversified and classified as Indian English, British English, American English etc. The word stress sometimes differs from One region to another .
