Burns was only 17 when he wrote this masterpiece for his Peggy dear - and he loved to hear women's voices sing and was inspired by them. His mother was a singer too. Perfect interpretation.

To be honest this is a wonderfully executed Dick Gaughan arrangement of this song. Despite what the credits says above "Arrangement by Ríoghnach Connolly & Ellis Davies" this is exactly Dick's arrangement right down to his exact guitar lines. That takes nothing away from Ríoghnach Connolly's stunning singing.

Great singing and band. It would be interesting to hear the guitar move away from Dick Gaughan’s version of ripples, which, as a soloist, he uses to float the words on but here I find somewhat superfluous or intrusive. Others will obviously have a different opinion; such are the joys in making music.
