BIG NEWS! I've now got a 100% jump in performance. SEE HERE:
ua-cam.com/video/3SawRifbmiY/v-deo.html
That's really interesting because the Pimax 8KX seems to run so much better with PimaxXR and OpenXR without Steam VR. Got mine up to 45 to 50 FPS. When running Steam VR it gets about 8 to 12 FPS unplayable. So this is really big news on the Crystal thanks.
Just to clarify: you're now at 50fps?
That is weird to say the least, hopefully, it is something that can be corrected with an update. If it is something not working with the runtime I would be hopeful that based on previous performance increases, once fixed, bypassing SteamVR we could hope to see something approaching 60 FPS using PimaxXR, then throw in FFR or ETFR and we have a much better situation.
Great news !!!
@@L_Emir_de_Passy 50-60fps
As a VR enthusiast, I love the way the technology is developing, 👍🏾
It's honestly surprising that there's so much high end hardware when you can count the number of AAA like VR experiences to have ever existed on one hand.
@@DiesOnAToilet VR is VR. Good VR is worth every bit, AAA or not.
Morrowind VR mod or Subnautica VR port may not be AAA, yet are some of the best addictive VR experiences ever (for those who can appreciate it). You'll def. need more than three hands to count all great VR experiences out there.
*Thankyou* so much for all your comments so far! My number one priority now (apart from a DCS video), will be to work out how to increase my FPS without sacrificing clarity. So stay tuned...
Yes please let us know if you can sort it out!
Good luck!
Maybe with the rtx 5090 or 6090. 😂
I think this headset is great but there is no hardware can handle it yet.
Well looks like I’m getting rid of my Varjo 😂
I'm now very curious about all those who've already claimed good to great experiences on msfs in the Crystal.....you're an expert simmer struggling on a 4090🤔🤔🤔🤔 I'm guessing that's because they all were all in controlled Pimax sandbox testing environments
Thanks as always Steve for your first impression videos. I really respect your view and experience to help me navigate the fast developing VR goggle world. Can’t understand what you don’t at least 10x as many subscribers!
Thanks Andy, it's comments like that which keep me going :)
Been waiting for this one 😁 Look forward to future vids to see how it progresses. Cheers Steve. 👍
Great impression video. I cant see what you see- but you describe everything so vividly it allows the viewer to imagine
Solid video! Great reactions! Solid concerns! It will be interesting to see how you adjust your settings to make this work as well as it can.
Thanks Mark, much appreciated 🍻
Good to hear....glad I preordered it early. Sold my Aero last year hope the Crystal can take it's place for SimRacing!
It's good to see someone with Varjo Aero experience appreaciating the clarity, when I tried this headset a couple of months ago at the roadshow, I was impressed, but only had the Index and Pico 4 as a reference. At the roadshow it unfortunately also sometimes had the issue of not turning on. At least some of the other issues seem fixed.
The most eagerly waited vid since Rambo , thanks for this ✌️
😅 Thanks Simon
WOW i am very excited for more Crystal content. Great First impressions video.
Thankyou 😊
0:25 "Pull up a chair, pour yourself a drink" - VRFSG I love it 🎉🥳
Extremely excited.
Thanks for your first impression video and your passion for VR is contagious! Hopefully Pimax is paying attention and your message to make sure they get it right before shipping out the preorders is followed. Nonetheless, since I’ve invested in a new rig with a 4090 RTX and 13900 Intel CPU, just knowing that the Crystal will take the clarity to a whole new level, gives me goosebumps! Thanks
w/bad frame rates. hopefully, they get this fixed
@@dabneyoffermein595 Other testers already have. Even Steve says in pinned comment that he's doubled fps since this video was released.
great video Steve, looking forward to seeing more content on this set!
Thankyou 😊
Yep, I'm glad I pre-ordered
Wow! I know how much you like the Aero and that floored me when you said it was better.
Thanks for watching Stew, although I'll have more to say about this headset once I spend more time with it :)
Thanks for the most honest and clear video on this HMD for MSFS. I have no doubts left. I WON'T be getting it for my 3080 pc. Patience needed now for my next pc upgrade....need to wait for the 5090s and beyond.
Thanks Jamie 🙏
Thanks Steve, hope Pimax are listening 😃
Cheers Mark 😊
Looking forward to more Pimax videos! Test out all different game genres and graphics settings to find the best case for each one.
Hopefully the wider FOV lens will be ready soon too
Can’t wait to get mine
I'm excited for this 👍👍
Thanks for your amazing support buddy
@@VRFlightSimGuy 👍
Just placed a pre-order with your link. Very excited about this. Gonna replace my 3080 with a 4090 as well, just to do this headset justice. Thanks for the video, keep-em coming !
Thanks so much! :)
Thanks for the first impressions. Sounds impressive on the visual front, hopefully the performance issues will be an easy fix.
Hi Steve, everyone impatiently awaiting the arrival of your review at Pimax Kristal and like all of us, especially your Steve, we have been totally crazy and excited with this new entry into the VR market by Pimax. Seeing that you already get, in MSFS, 60 FPS I'm thinking of selling some unused Varjo Aero at a good price and buying some PKristal. Thank you very much Steve for so much for so little. Friend Steve, I wish you a fantastic and emotional VR weekend, a big hug from your friend Paku😉👐👐
Looking forward to hearing more about this headset. Hopefully they work out all of the kinks so we don't have to in the field post purchase. You may want to include a chapter for tips and tricks since it sounds like you have an open ticket with them already learning a lot. I have learned so much regarding troubleshooting about my 8KX off reddit (we shouldn't have to go through reddit). Pimax needs to beef up their support community page and make it easier to navigate each product for troubleshooting. It would save so much time! At the end of the day, I am still a fan of Pimax.
Thank you for the video. I bought a pair of the 8K back in December and never got them working. After 3 months of going back and forth with Pimax tech support I finally got them returned and my money back. I'm a little skeptical about getting another pair of Pimax. Especially because I do have the Varjo Aero also.
Thanks for the timely review, Steve! This is the headset I'm most looking at to upgrade from my G2. I'll wait to see if you can tweak things to increase FPS above 30 flying above NYC or London before making any decisions, though. It also sounds like this unit will require upgrading my CPU and 3080Ti in order to experience the wow factor, not to mention waiting for prescription lens inserts to be developed and designed to fit this unit.
When you do your next and more comprehensive review, please address the audio features and how they compare with other top-level headsets. I thought the Crystal had integrated speakers like the G2 has, but the comments here seem to infer it does not, and I don't wish to wear earbuds while flying in VR. I'm also looking for the improved immersion that comes with a significantly wider FOV, which is, (or was) the primary Pimax difference. I know it's not as wide as the 8K or other models, but how much wider can this unit deliver vs the HP Reverb G2? Cheers!
I'm so exited
OMGoodnes the Big Man has the Crown!
What a relief both for myself and my wallet I can carry on using my Varjo Aero with a smile on my face 🙂
Thanks, Steve. Quite the mixed bag of virtual potatoes I have to say. But I would have LOVED to experience that clarity! And fingers crossed that Pimax is listening intently and will be able to tweak a few things. I'm excited to see what performance you can get from it in the future. Thanks again for an amazing first impressions video 👍👍 Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
I can't believe I nearly missed your comment, thanks buddy. It's been quite a journey this week so far with this headset! My best to you and your family.
Ya can’t wait for this one as I never cared for the Aero.
Been Waiting for this one for a long time!!! I always appreciate your raw reactions, they speak volumes. Your impressions seem to match my expectations, not as good build as Aero, worse performance, more troubleshooting needed... but once you look through the headset none of that really matters. I look forward to the new series and I guess I better find me a 4090 to even have a chance at running this thing. SO MUCH FOR THE 12K QLED... nothing will be able to drive that for awhile!
It's not just about the visuals, even if you have to downgrade the visuals just a bit. The openness of the field of view and compared to the aero is what I've been waiting for. The Aero is not easy on the eyes for me because of bad binocular overlap and small fov.
@@kangjames2492 Yes that's why I said "Look through the headset" because it is all of that, resolution, FOV, and the Local Dimming is HUGE for me. We are on the same page Kang.
did warn you :)
@Get Your Game On My bad, I was responding to someone elses comment and somehow repled to you.
@@kangjames2492 THATS IT KANG OUR FRIENDSHIP IS OVER!!! Just Kidding, no problem, I've done that before too.
Running the 4070ti so going to cancel my pre order and follow through your experience to see if I will order. Frame rates could be a very big issue if you are having issues with the 3090! Hopefully just a software issue. Really respect and appreciate that you are on the consumer side not the company side. That is so evident. Great respect, Andrew from Australia.
Let's go!
🤘
Performance should boost significantly with eye-tracking foveated render, when it ‘s working. Cross-finger for the finished product with full functions and decent quality.🎉 Hope Pimax team could rebuild their reputation with a proud product!
Guess I'll just have to keep slumming it with my Reverb G2 v2 and 3080 until version 2 of the Crystal comes out. Thanks for your amazing review. If it wasn't for you Steve I'd still be flying in 2D.
Thanks Brad, that's really great to know :)
Thank you for your impression! I think in 1.5 years the glasses will be usable to the extent that you have improved the software and can buy the glasses with a decent warranty and reversal conditions via Amazon etc. I wouldn't want to do without them! Unfortunately, I had too many negative experiences with the 8KX and the support of Pimax.
What were your -ve 8KX issues Taz?
Cheers, Michael 🇦🇺
@@SpatialGuy77 Too much I can't list everything for you. The support is very complicated and does not change your hmd so easily in case of obvious problems. The return and shipping of new hmd takes months. The software problems are sometimes completely arbitrary and you need a lot of patience until you solve the problems. In some cases, problems can only be solved with support where any changed firmware is corrected again, etc. Even the 8KX is still fraught with errors after 2 years that also show up in games. Incorrect representations or Hud elements, etc. You have to try a lot on the software to find ideal settings, etc. The Crystal will easily take 1-2 years until the software is on the status where you can say less headache. However, the software is not fundamentally bad, it allows a lot of setting options, but this also creeps in new sources of error. Pimax glasses are not for people who do not want to deal with settings, etc. for a long time. With my 8KX, I sometimes spent weeks with ideal settings.
@@tasmania9576 Perfect. Exactly the sort of thing I wanted to hear. Thanks mate. 👌
Thanks for this 1st impression. Looking for more deep dives with DCS(MT version) and some performance tuning to get 4090 above 40 fps. Wish it playable with last-gen flagship😂- 3090 anywhere around 30fps? Maybe too early to ask.
it was a great reaction video, Steve. Thank you. I have to think there is a way to address the fps. That is my hope anyway. I preodered one and would need that issue to be fixed to follow through with the purchase. I can't imagine it staying at 25 fps. MRTV - MIXED REALITY TV was getting 50 in msfs
We've just been talking about this, I will investigate further so stay tuned. Thanks for watching
Nice save on the fly at 11:30 :-0
lol thanks... it was a close one!
Thanks for the first impressions! il-2 after?
Loving the enthusiasum Steve, visuals sound spectacular. You didn't mention what lenses you had installed. 35 or 42, also these are Q(uantom dot)LED lenses not OLED easy mistake! Although of course that doesn't change the panel so the performance would be the same. Hopefully the performance issues resolve themselves over time. Glad you found the weight ok during the flight, would be interesting to judge after an hour or two. Great feedback! 👍
So far all testers have only 35 ppd lenses.
@@RJ-kr4bs Thanks RJ ok, thank makes sense, I know at CES there were some issues with the 42 ppd lenses, so hopefully these will be sorted soon. Good signs anyway that the 'lower' ppd / wider FoV 35 ppd lens is performing so well.
Think I'll stick with my Varjo Aero 👍
That’s what I want to tell you Steve because I watched a video with Sebastian and he was using steam VR, and he had much much better performance. I think he was getting 60 FPS in Msf
Thank you Steve as always. Really really interesting. I have been waiting for you to test the crystal out. Been following you for a long time progressing on the PC level like you but with the g2 and quest 2. Looking for the next headset to progress to with the 4090. This might be it, but seems premature. But I will stay tuned as I am pretty sure Pimax will have an interest to have you good up and running 😜 I guess the issues which cannot be fixed with software is a concern, you mentioned the motor for instance. Are there any others? Batterylife when you fly many hours? How is MR in the headset. Stutters breaks the immersion for me big time, I can rather live with artifacts over the wings. Latest release of openxr did good things for MR combined with rivatuner controlling a fixed fps of 30, just waooow.
Thats interesting, never herd anyone mention rivaturner in msfs setting. Would love to know more about it ? Have you any video links I could look up? Maybe you could do a video if not ?
Everything you said was exactly what I was expecting you to say. I did some number crunching on my 4090 and knew it would be difficult to run, also your CPU might be struggling as well. Typical Pimax though with it not working out the box and the terrible IPD adjuster lol I just can't wait for you bigscreen video :-) rumours are very low to no distortion rendering in steamvr, so could be a very easy to run headset.
This was really helpful as a pre-order participant. Thank you. Coming in to this video my main concern was whether or not my 4090+5800X3D would have enough grunt to handle the Crystal. With my Pico4 I just get enough performance for 60FPS in MSFS and certainly couldn't see it getting better with the Crystal. 25FPS may be a deal breaker though. Very interested to see if DLSS is useable at all without loosing the amazing clarity.
Thanks Jim, I've since improved my performance by up to 150%, video coming soon.
@@VRFlightSimGuy waiting! Looking for a new headset for dcs and think I found one lol
If nothing else it might prompt Varjo to trickle down a bit more to their consumer offering. Competition is good.
Interested in seeing the results after you tweak it. It makes me wonder if the Aero clarity would compare if it had settings such that it returned 25ish FPS. Thanks for all the terrific content!!
Will you make it across the pond for the Flight Sim Expo in June??
I'd love to attend but unfortunately not this year. I've now got over 100% performance back already, thanks to a bit of tweaking :)
Let’s hope Pico 5 adds a display port, can’t see me jumping to this, maybe the Quest 3 when the G2 dies
Thanks for the info, FOV was my biggest concern and I have now cancelled my pre order based on the FOV this has for a 3k headset, plus all the other bugs, ill stick with my G2 for a while longer.
Thanks for watching, although I personally think the FOV is very nice!
@@VRFlightSimGuy better than the G2 ??
I'm about to go completely mental I must say!
As a AMD only 4 now Sim pc for my MSFS2020 VR I'm used to dealing with issues that will get fixed so yes no problem if there is a team, company working on it on solving all the issues and compatibility with mainly the GPU including AMD :-) The prices is much better than the Varjo upgrading from a G2 because no need of base stations so a big win. You emotions are like always real and it does give me confidence in getting the Pimax Crystal later down the road after I upgraded my GPU. Thanks for sharing and yes the Microphone is very good also, G2 levels. Audio not as good or same with the extra speakers?
Try Dynamic Foveated Rendering.. should be a significant performance boost.
Thanks for the first impressions, as always. I'm planning to get a hulk of pc (4090 + Ryzen 7 7800X3D) and I am considering upgrading my headset. I was wondering if PICO 4 with a powerful wifi will suffice...
I wish Pimax would have a Steam VR version, with only the chord and batteries, and the Wi-Fi 6 module. I'd buy it right now. No need for stand alone chips, as there's few games and who wants to buy lower-fidelity games with this hi end PCVR HMD?
They have to get some good eye tracked foveated rendering in their software. This is doing wonders with ACC on my Quest Pro right now. I find it funny when people say I will wait for the 12k. Your going to need a 6090 to run that. The Quest pro and a 4090 is the sweet spot for me right now. You can pretty much run everything at 90fps on High/ultra on that resolution. I will possibly get a Quest 3 when it comes out (Only for more active titles and because I'm struggling with the comfort on my pro) but until we either get split rendering headset or good eye tracked foveated rendering on all games and 5090's I'm not upgrading to a higher resolution headset.
👍👍👍👍👍👍 OMG So excited just listening to you! LOL 🎉 BIG QUESTION: Do I get a Crystal or continue the long wait to trade my 8KX for the 12K Vision? Michael 🇦🇺
remember you starting off from most frame hitting airport, as long you runnings smooth, you running cache for scenery?I switched mine off got bit boost in frames .I flying on 4k tv so might be diffrent
When you first loaded into London City Airport; I thought you needed to 'get a room.'😂
😂
😂
Thank you so much, that's exactly what I needed to make my decision between the preordered Pimax and the "a bit more expensive" Aero. I'll go with the Varjo because of the buildquality and the software issues. The Varjo guys do a great job and because my main reason to buy a VR is DCS I guess I'll be more happy with the Aero despite a little less sharp picture.
Glad I've helped with your decision. You'll absolutely love the Aero.
Don't do it, it's not just about the sharpness. The arrow has bad binocular overlap and a small fov, which Is trumped by the pimax. It's not even out yet, give it time to mature and for the bugs to be worked out. The aero has a constant micro micro stutter when you turn your head that no one seems to mention. I've had mine since day one and I'm not happy with it. I'm just waiting on the next best thing to replace it. I actually had two send 3 of them back because of dead pixels and an unstable screen jitter. When I put on my G2 It's just so much more comfortable visually even though it's not as sharp.
And the black levels are terrible on the aero.
I bought the Aero and send it back for the following reasons: edge distortion, shift of color red, tiny fov especially vertical, terrible stereo overlap which caused eye strain, impossible to use with more then 1 person because the iPd adjustment had to be done in software+4 knobs, massive chromatic aberration. All these issues without exception are solved by the Crystal. And above that better blacks, colors and even more clarity I understand from the impressions. So good luck with your choice for the Aero. I went back to the G2 after trying the Aero. I hope that the crystal will be great, it probably is, I'm only worried about the warranty which is only 1 year, with the build quality of Pimax this is a huge issue and of course the terrible fps/the performance of the software. Enjoy your choice! And thanks for the great first impression video, looks great so far and all is as I expected the pros and cons. Looking for to more crystal content !
@@turbohenk702 I had all of the same issues with me Aero and sent it back as well. The clarity was great, but everything else had issues, not to mention the 2k price without base stations, headphones, controller etc.
Appreciate the review. Looking forward to more input on this one. I have a Varjo Aero, but am chasing the closest VR I can get to monitor quality. Plus, Aero Base restarts like 20 times before it finally stabilizes enough to use. Frustrating.
OH HELL NO, now I'm not buying it if this is really something that happens on a 2k+ headset
Never heard of that happening before with an aero. I've had mine 13 months.. its been great
My Aero worked very well for quite a while. It started this behavior several months into ownership. The headset basically disconnects and the reconnects, and repeats that over 15 minutes or so before stabilizing. Once going, I have no issues. I have no complaints with the Aero otherwise, and have not seen this behavior reported by anyone else. Time to get support involved.
Please check the clarity if you look outside in far
Hi Steve , how exactly does the FOV compare to the normal mode in the Pimax as it is now?
Looking forward to a DCS performance review/impressions. MSFS performs like trash for me anyways due to not having the speediest DDR4 RAM.
Thanks for the first impressions. A few questions when you get round to it. Is this a final production unit or is the hardware still being revised/finalised? What is the size of the sweet spot, eye comfort and edge to edge clarity like compare to the Varjo Aero and G2? Thanks.
This is 99% retail according to Pimax. Sweet spot is excellent, much like the Aero. Compared to the G2, is a huge step up.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Great thanks!
Sounds absolutely normal for a Pimax headset (the issues) 🙂 Hope you get them sorted out.
There really isnt any perfect HMD out right now.. Even on most releases all of them have had some growing pains. Varjo is still going through some.
Varjo still have not implemented local dimming nor system wide eye tracking.
@@kangjames2492 I honestly don't think they will with the Aero.
Having watched omnivrs crystal video am a bit worried about performance in msfs. Will be interesting to see how your 13900/4090 bears up!
Good video Steve. For me, the lack of performance is a big issue. You were using on o top of the range pc, us lesser mortals with average computers probably won’t get a good experience. I’m interested to see if you can gain more fps somehow.
This flight game is very cpu demand. Other vr games gonna run just fine
I hope Varjo will have an update for the Aero to compete with newer headsets like the Crystal. Perhaps a Varjo Aero V2?
Since crystal is cheating with the supersampling in OpenXR, varjo likely just need a "crystal supersample" mode that matches the resolution of the crystal, at similarly terrible fps, for similar clarity.
I've run headsets at 500% supersampling and you'd be amazed the clarity you can achieve. What crystal was running at here was like an Aero at 200-400% supersample.
Hi Tom, I agree the reported resolution is very odd, although even scaled down, the Crystal still looks better than the Aero due to less CA, better binocular overlay, better colours, local dimming and more fov (oh and no red shift).
@@VRFlightSimGuy Yes that's what I'd expect - better FOV, colours, dimming, CA and binocular overlap, but clarity at best equal or more likely lower.
Both have similar lenses quality and resolution so these should be the tradeoffs to expect.
I'd be interested to hear what you think of their clarity at equal performance or resolution
When it comes to clarity, frankly, barring a seperate 70ppd panel like the vr3, the Aero is already plenty and more limited by supersampling GPU overhead than the headset itself. Running the crystal at high supersampling and being shocked by the clarity is a good example of that.
The things that are needed going forward are improvements to:
1) overall clarity. Only the Quest Pro delivers this from what I've seen, it's very impressive. Pancakes are the future and pimax is no improvement here at all
2) FOV. The quest pro is plenty for me, pimax has always come at the cost of canted displays being terrible, but perhaps the crystal is finally different. For some FOV is super important, for others not so much
3) Colours and brightness. Frankly the Aero is already excellent and close to the OLED displays I've seen, so I don't think much more is necessary here. Always welcome but a minor upgrade
4) black levels. This is the big one for me - and dimming is definitely great, but having seen it on the quest pro, it's no replacement for OLED. Not even close. Only OLED truly performs here
5) binocular overlap. This is excellent on the quest pro but overall a minor improvement from the Aero.
So taking everything together, the crystal is likely an overall improvement over the Aero but it doesn't sound like a quantum leap.
For that it would have to have pancake lenses or OLEDs or both
Just as an aside - how is the standalone functionality? This could be a big advantage too, something I appreciate in the quest pro. Can any decent games run standalone?
Very nice video thanks for that.🙂
How long do the glasses' acoustics last? Some preview reports talked of 1 to 2 hours. The testers complained about this.
It would be great if you make another video with DCS.
Thankyou, sorry I don't understand your question regarding the acoustics? DCS video inbound soon...
@@VRFlightSimGuy Sorry I expressed myself wrong.
It's about the two Akus that are plugged into the Pimax Cyrstel.
Other testers report that they last a maximum of 1 to 2 hours and then have to be charged.
How are your experiences there?
tell us about those qled displays. Do they give good HDR effects? Do the colors "pop"?
Thanks very much Steve for this first impression! Very promising, especially the larger VOF and the local dimming at night. I'm looking forward to a comparison with Aero. Very exciting this!
A few remarks:
1. With the standard lenses this Pimax should do 35 PPD while the Aero is max. 39 PPD so the Varjo should still be somewhat sharper imo.
2. The horizontal and vertical VOF (approx. 102x100) is definitely larger than the Aero (close to the Index). The effective measured VOF of the Aero is about 84x65 I understood. The downside however, is that overall there are more pixels to render resulting in a lower frame rate.
3. Switching from TAA to DLSS should give you at least a frame rate increase of 10 as to my experience. I'm curious what you will get.
PPD does not really describe actual clarity, it only describes panel resolution in relation to the FOV. If your lenses are of poor quality, they can't resolve those pixels properly and you end up with less clarity even if you had higher PPD.
Aero apparently has quite a lot of chromatic aberrations, and this means that RGB are all focused in a different spot.. leading to a overall softer image as only one of the primary colors is actually in focus.
You can compensate chromatic aberrations in software, but you can compensate for the effect it has in sharpness of the image. As the compensation only happens in 2D, and your lens still focuses all primary colors on different spots in 3D space.
The aero only does 35 ppd. The 39 is a supersample.
The crystal in this video is like an Aero running 200-400% supersample. It's over the top, hence the performance and clarity.
They need to be compared at the same resolution and performance levels
I've tried my vr3 at 400% supersample and it was glorious - and ran like crap
@@Tom--Ace supersampling is just an anti-aliasing technique, it can't really increase the resolution.. just makes things smoother.
It'll be interesting to hear your experience with the batteries on the long play sessions. I wonder if the used battery will charge quickly enough to be swapped when the other one is drained. It's a hassle that shouldn't be there when tethered, hoping pimax can some how solve this in coming months
The battery requirement comes from Qualcomm to license the XR2 processor, that's definitely not Pimax's doing.
Pimax has stated they should ship with about 6-hour battery life, with recharge faster than that, plus the batts can be hot-swapped due to a small third built-in battery just for that purpose. You'll be fine.
Even so, grabbing one extra battery is easy enough. I'm not sure it's really a concern when mod batteries charge to 80% in minutes. It will still be interesting to see as you say.
It's going to be this or the Bigscreen next, or because I'm an idiot, probably both :( Obviously I love that this has better FOV, but aside from all the other positives of the Bigscreen, I absolutely LOVE that it doesn't need any other software.
seeing as it's so demanding in MSFS is it worth getting with anything less than a 4090?
Waiting on my crystal and wondering if my 7950x3d and 4090 will run it better.. 🤷
Sorry if I missed it but were you using FFR for this test? If not can we see what kind of performance boost you can get by enabling it? Great video, your reaction did not disappoint!
Other testers say FFR is coming but not yet enabled, along with DFR.
I will get a pimax crystal when 5090 ti comes out
Headsets can handle whatever tech can throw at them currently. We need more push from PCU's GPU'S
Very interesting, thank you. Would it work with X-Plane 12? Cheers BB
How does the FOV compare to the 8KX in "normal" mode? Is it larger than the "small" mode?
How is the glass display clear and sharp if you use dlss? Isn’t there still a masking issue that makes it blurry?
Edit: nm you were on TAA
oh and DCS 😁 please 😛
Q4 this year???? Hmm might as well ill just get a next valve headset
I have this pre-ordered, but am so damn Happy with the Aero right now and with the Aero now getting full Dynamic Foveated Rendering in DCS is bar none the best VR headset I've ever seen and I've owned most. Can you please test in DCS?
I'm going to go ahead and get it and keep the best one between it and the Aero. But without DFR in DCS there's no way I can see it winning. But added clarity and FOV with DFR will likely give it a win! Lol and hopefully I'm ok with a 7950X3D/4090 and 64GB of RAM😜
Varjo unfortunately ruined my visual quality with the Redshift and chromatic aberration issues in the IPD. I have a IPD of 60 and it just looks bad and something about the IPD now doesn't feel right.
@@Killswitch1411 that’s all gone away now…at least it is for me and I have the same IPD. It feels like a different headset than it did a few months ago. Nearly perfect really. If it had more FOV there wouldn’t need a single want from me. Nearly perfect visuals, no red shift, gaming in perfect 90fps with settings maxed out using DFR in DCS. If I had 20deg of extra vertical fov, I wouldn’t be wanting really anything more…
@@TheGreekbull I still see Redshift on newest update.. So Idk what kind of magic you are using.
Don’t like the battery idea, don’t like the controllers & don’t like the inside out tracking. But the panels & POV sound amazing. I’d use my valve lighthouses & hopefully I’d be able to just the knuckles with it. Then it’s just the batteries which seem like a daft idea.
nice one steve lets hope they can sort, as anyone with less than a 4090 !!!! there FPS will be even worse
QLED is not OLED in any way. It is Samsungs name for their LCD technology. The fog is blooming from local dimming.
I want to see how this preforms in DCS World.
Next 👍
Prob poo because dcs is so badly optimised
How wide is FOV? Same as the previous gens or more narrow?
Can't wait to see how the apple headset compares
Don't get you hopes up 😂
Being an old git who loves VR and Flight Sim I would love be able to try, and compare, all these different Headsets to be able to make an informed decision which suits me best. Are there any NON-online vr shops that exist to be able to do this? I doubt it very much but it would be very useful.
Not that I'm aware of Martin :(
Steve you need to do a performance normalised comparison - try testing both the Aero and crystal when both are supersampled/undersampled in order to achieve
1) 60 fps
2) 45 fps
3) 30 fps
4) 20 fps for ultimate clarity and shits and giggles
This will really show you how they compare, because a bullshit high supersample excused as "barrel distortion" correction is complete crap - it's a massive native supersample and should be treated as such, with other headsets allowed to compete on similarly high supersample/performance levels
Dear VR Flight Sim Guy
Bionocular overlap is good in this eadset ? You can see the 3d effect very well right? Because in the past i have one pimax 5k plusand the a3 effect was very poor because of this lack of bionocular overlap. Because i have G2 and this 3d effect is perfect in this headset after Pimax 5k plus Thanks this answer in advance.
Yes it's really very good in the Crystal
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thanks this answer and please tell me the crystal contoller is compatible most of the steam VR games and Oculus home games ( with revive ) ? Thanks this answer in advance,
Thanks Steve, just need the 5090 to run it .😅
See my pinned post mate. Thanks for watching. More soon...
Just received my Crystal and no instructions on how to charge the battery. Please advise - thanks
Explain the "issues" please. What was the issues and how were they rectified
