Don't use a scrapper. The gas sealing is measured in thousandth of an inch, and a difference of .002 can make a big difference. Just use a wire brush. Use a 30 caliber if you need to. Lastly, the gas/accumulation on the large part of the bolt tail is gine to leave there.
