I worked with Marcos, the author of Framed Ink, back in the day at Dreamworks Features Animation. Not only is he absolutely the nicest, kindest, funniest, most humble guy you will ever meet in your entire life, his fingers are simply dripping with talent. I have been in his office while he was literally holding a phone with one hand, heavily engaged in conversation, while drawing like a machine with the other - no delays, no hesitations, no searching for the next stroke or line... the artwork just pouring out onto the paper as easily as a a river flows. A large subset of his brain must be dedicated to nothing BUT drawing - talk about being able to walk and chew gum at the same time! He knows human anatomy, horse anatomy, clothing, armor, weapons, architecture [modern and ancient] plants, vehicles... all of it, inside and out - and can draw it to perfection from any angle you could ask for. AND he knew where to find the most amazing Spanish style paella in all of Glendale! Here's to you, old friend -
I chanced upon this book in my college library and oh my goodness, the art is exquisite. Every stroke adds to the illusion of detail, and his faces were so expressive. What an amazing book ❤
I hope these continue. There is so much to creating meaningful art beyond just the construction and rendering of forms that is persistently neglected in the youtube collection of excellent instruction, because it takes one who has mastered the fundamentals not only to understand these concepts but to relate them to others. I own it. The book is essential for anyone who creates storyboards and sequential art (graphic novel/comic book). Much of my own illustrations and graphic novel is served by this wonderful book.
