The death of Jesus seems like completely unnecessary theater for an all-powerful, all-knowing and infinitely-loving god. If god wanted to take our sins, pain, disease, etc., he could have willed it done and spared the death. Why would a god who is so concerned about free will and also had eternal foreknowledge of these events personally intervene in humanity instead of altering his "specs" for creation pre-genesis? If Jesus's sacrifice was once and for all, why do we continue to sin and why is it conditional based on belief in him? How much did he truly sacrifice if he had existed for eternity prior to his human death and will exist for eternity going forward?

You sound like my husband did for a long time. He believed it was a bad wrap for Jesus to have had gone through, but then realized if this is the way of Salvation, he's glad Jesus did it. It takes faith to believe this. I didn't believe this either until I received the Holy Ghost who then gave me the wisdom and understanding for this. According to your email name you are looking for truth. I would suggest this... take Jesus at His word when He said, "Whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life". God loved the world, that He gave us His Son so that we wouldn't have to die for our sins. If you have studied the Old Testament, many died becuase they were evil or disobedient. God said, "Well, they just can't do what I ask, so I'll give them a way out." and that's when He gave us Jesus. Yes, it's very hard to understand and grasp when you don't have the Power to do so. You can only get this power by receiving Jesus into your heart. And if you can't believe, then simply ask God, our Heavenly Father, to help you believe. THEN.... you will truly understand and see why He did what He did for us.

@@lindalange26 Why should I have faith in the idea that an omnipotent, omniscient, infinitely-loving god designed a creation that needed salvation, implemented rules that required salvation and a method of salvation where he would send his son, who is also him, to his creation to die for them? The cherry on top is that you have to believe in this story to get the salvation from our loving creator.
Why should I take him at his word? How can I tell he is who he says he is, or if he really said that? God so loved the world he killed hundreds of thousands of his own creation over disobedience.
As I asked in my first comment, what did god actually give up and why did he need to? Jesus never really ceased to exist. At most, god may have lost three days with him. What kind of sacrifice is that? He knew this would happen and he has the power to will our sins forgiven. Why add in the theater? Why not forgive Adam and Eve and take us back to our innocence? Why allow any of this to happen in the first place? In the effort to make god sound great, Christians make him sound like a weak idiot.
