Cadillac Ranch Sucks

- Choked with tourists with no artistic ability, these beautiful old Cadillacs are unrecognizable after years of vandalism. The paint on the cars is nearly a foot thick and sagging in many places. The cares are unrecognizeable paint laden blobs. I do think the attraction is still worth a visit, and I much prefer the original installation. What do you think? LMK in the comments.
I live in Amarillo, i think it's pretty funny you caught the Fantasy billboard at the end 😂
Omg 😂😂😂😂 I just noticed that too
Bro 😂😂 my favorite billboard in the world 😂
Same 😂
Me too
The man who owned it (now deceased) had also placed fake traffic signs all over Amarillo as art pieces. It was pretty neat until several allegations of se**al abuse in young teenage boys came towards him
I'm sorry what
He also locked some people in his chicken coup for a little over 24 hours
@@DingusHeadass bro was psycho
Allegations!?!? Stanley Marsh died a pedophile.
Stanley was crazy
I live in Amarillo and I think the opposite. I think it's awesome that thousands of people have taken part in painting them. It's crazy to see The dichotomy of how beautiful and destructive people can be. It's a great slice of representation of the way the world is. But then, I love chaos, so I'm probably one of the very few with that point of view.
Thanks for your comment and perspective. You have a different opinion than me however you explain yourself and it makes sense, and I thank you for that. Me, not a big fan of chaos and vandalism. 😂🙏
As a local....it's par for the course in Amarillo. This town is a dump. The people are decent and the cost of living is low but it is one of the ugliest cities in the country.
Nooo
It’s not that bad bro
Yeah I live in amarillo and it's an eye sore now. It needs to go sorry ppl or be redone completely
😂 Thanks for the comment. I was pretty sure I’d get flamed for this one, but it turns out that a lot of people feel the same way I do!
It’s also a pedophiles art work . I hate that my hometown boasts this like it’s cool.🙄
Mmm no it doesn't, not gonna remove it just because you don't like looking at it, if you don't like looking at it just don't look, duh. I have memories there and my family has memories there
@@fiestaadventuresthere's a hell of a lot more that feel differently, most gun owners, don't ruin what's not yours. Get out of Texas.
@@obsidianrex8189 Brilliant comment, thank you.
I live here in Amarillo Tx , and what y’all DONT know is the guy who decided to build the ranch was a Rich guy who slept with high school kids and also a purchased cars for them! He deleted himself years later 🙄
Idk why this is such a massive Tourism Attraction tbh, Rihanna was the main driver of it saying F Trump in spray-paint, I feel the Amarillo Zoo and Discovery center was way better locations and tourism attractions honestly
Yea but the zoo is just depressing
Planting 10 Cadillacs nose end was an art form in itself, it looks just like it's supposed to look! Do you really think people would come see it if those cars were all rusted out by now? That paints the only thing holding them together! My son got married there in 2020 and I took all the pictures with the cars in the back of them, very unique in the wedding garb.
PS: we also went out there as soon as sun rose just above the horizon to get the pictures. By 7:30 it was packed with visitors.
Needs to be done away with all the other leftover trash from Stanley Marsh around amarillo
Or you could leave Amarillo.
@obsidianrex8189 so you support pedophiles ..got it
i wouldn't go that far, but Marsh needs to be scrubbed from the city. That, and no more letting Los Angeles name our baseball teams.
@@LegendStormcrow that wasn't la that named them it was hodges wife I belive
@@miguelfigueroa5659 LA claimed they chose it out of the list on a news broadcast. Meanwhile, we have 2 people in Amarillo arguing over who offered it. The name is horrible, but at least the Californians made a good logo. Still hate it though.
Choked, go at non peek time. Paint, it stops the rust, they wouldn't even exist if not. The creator is dead and try getting replacement vehicles.
There is also another thing, I can't remember the actual name of this, but it's about the multiple layers of paint, and someone making jewelry with it, most are encased in resin and polished, a few people make this type of jewelry from chunks that break up.
Fordite. Bricks of broken off paint with thousands and thousands of layers. Name originated from the old Ford factories where the painting room floor would have to be chipped away at, and that was the result.
I live n amarillo think it's funny how people find this an attraction! I drive by it everyday to work have never stopped or taking my kids!!!!
Its therapeutic for me when my whole family (30+) and I go to celebrate my sons birthday. He took his life at 15. Seeing his name painted all over, if only for a moment, is beautiful to me.
Thanks for the comment. I’m glad the place brings you joy and I’m very sorry for your loss.
For me, i love it because this is where my wife proposed to me. And a lot of people i know do understand it is a tourist spot, so it will be busy all they time. It's kind of meant to be a place to go and have fun, and you dont have to be the best at graffiti, but it's more about the memories.
The last time I was there, empty spray cans were all over the place. Very trashy...
Thanks I appreciate the comment! I truly thought I was gonna be flamed for this video, but I’m finding that many people agree with me.
This reminds me of a guy who came down to Amarillo and walked around on a Sunday morning recording downtown. He said "there's nothing happening." Yeah dude it's Sunday morning.
Nothing happens on the other days here. Amarillo sucks shit
I know about 10 years ago I did some night time photography downtown, and it was so beautiful to me in those moments. It was so quiet and there's more to see than you notice when driving by.
But any other time, it just sucks, lol
I know exactly which one you're talking about, its like, go a little south west, and you'll see where everyone is
@@cobyjackson7130 Downtown Amarillo is spooky quite at night.
This may be a shock for people from Amarillo, but most downtowns are usually bustling on a Sunday morning lol
People should research the former owner who built the Cadillac ranch. Convicted Pedo millionaire. I lived in Amarillo and knew the parents. Sad
Stop spreading misinformation

The original art was not meant to be the spraypaint. The cars are even an afterthought. Originally they were in the middle of a beautiful wheat field. You know that old song "across amber waves of grain". The old Cadillacs with their fins were ment to look like a pod of dolphins breaking the waters surface. Sadly I don't remember the last time I saw that field planted out
it's a beautiful place for the family and so much fun
If they were untouched, they would've turned into iron oxide powder 30 years ago
Im from amarillo i think its pointless
Hidden tip just go to Claude and check out combine city or whatever is called, instead of tagged caddies it’s just buried combines. Lot less tourists too!
😂👍🙏
Choked with people so bad you can't get a good look? Then, it shows photo evidence of people standing next to them. Sir, what is a good look?😅
I think the comments are missing the point of Cadillac ranch. I was born and raised in Amarillo and Cadillac ranch was one of the first places you could express yourself with art not to mention it added something to a very flat and yellow town. However the main thing of Cadillac Ranch is its historical aspect. It broke conventional norms. It represented the growing car culture as well as the American dream and its also a marker on Route 66. I don’t think it should be do away with. That would be ripping a part of history out with it.
Thanks for the comment. The spray painting on the cars is anything but art. It's simply vandalism. No serious artist would spend any time creating anything nice as it would be sprayed over on the same day. The cars are unrecognizable with paint that's now drooping and has accumulated to a foot thick in some places. It's mostly people just tagging their names etc. What was once a nice art installation is now simply an eyesore. But I agree with you that it should be left alone and not removed. It's an historical place and receives many visits every day. And people seem to enjoy visiting and tagging. I realize this is my own opinion and others may disagree. And it's not on Route 66 and never was. It is nearby. Again, thank you for taking the time to comment and express your opinion.
@@fiestaadventureslol, couldn't finish.
You have a bizarre schizophrenic narrative on the subject.
Seek help dude!
They removed the history of it when they moved it for business and highways
@fiestaadventures most people who have visited me in Amarillo only care to go to the ranch to spray paint and could care less about the "Cadillac". My personal opinion is that it was originally a art gimmick that has turned into a experiance, that from the amount of visitors it receives is more popular than the original idea.
Do your research... that part of i40, was never route 66.
Those cars would be better on the road
Old Cadillacs had elegant styling
I think it's nice. As someone who grew up in Amarillo not very rich at all, it was something that was fun and free (relatively cheap if you buy spray paint to use). There's not a whole lot to do here that doesn't cost money (or doesn't cost a lot of money), but that's one of those things. I have fond memories of that place, and the sunsets are absolutely gorgeous out there. I also remember being out there and thinking about all the names that've been left there by people and feeling kind of awestruck. I think it's a very cool thing that it's become a place where people leave their mark, albeit small, on the world. It's fascinating and rather beautiful to think about how many other people have stood in the same place as you. Maybe there's beauty in chaos. Maybe chaos isn't all ugly. Please look at the chaos a little harder and see what it's made of. You might find something you'll love.
I've lived in Amarillo for 50 years my whole life and I've never been there
AMARILLO TX BLOWS. I grew up here. Im 37 and still need to escape. 😩 🤢
As someone who lives in Amarillo, im glad someone said it
I got to see them in 86 .still looked cool back then
Me and friends that went to school 2 hours away would go to just release from a stressful day. It's a great place to go relax and spray paint random shit. It doesn't need to be good. Just enjoy yourself in a town that barely has anything
Looks better than the old cars and yes im from amarillo
it needs to be turned into a picnic and rest park. not just cement a real park area
I'm a local and I hate people when they paint the roads
GOD yes, the people that paint the road are terrible.
I also live in Amarillo in the Bushland area and I pass this everyday and they even started to paint on the outside of the cement rails facing the highway and the county keeps covering it up. It just becomes an eye soar. Its getting better for the rails but not for the cars.
I live in Amarillo, don't waste ur time. Go to Palo Duro canyon it is worth the drive!
Next time, thanks for the comment!
I think you are 100% right when I first came to Texas that is one of the best things I had seen not anymore😢
I think cause I live here it doesn’t have much charm but I used to work at a paint store and I’d get tourists all excited to see it even foreigners from over seas to them it’s so neat but to me since I’ve lived around it it’s just another place to not go to
I live in Amarillo and it has become an eye but it is still a very fun experience for the fam
This place still open after the person that made it was found out as a child moles tor shows you how respectful people are now
Wow. I remember the Cadillac ranch as a kid, I never knew over time it had been graffitied over, don’t even recognize it now. Don’t know if I agreed with it originally, but now I think was a piece of art.too sad.
It’s literally a field with some dilapidated cars nothing to see there
Thanks for the comment.
Living in Amarillo, I agree, for more reasons than what are stated in the video
Whats more interesting is the history behind the creep responsible for said art
I also live in Amarillo and do not understand why people like this. It’s junk in a field that’s spray painted.
You have missed the whole point of the installation. This piece is about the ever changing environment. Fleeting moments. Each time you come back, it will never be the same. Not only because of the paint, but the landscape is constantly changing, too. If it were supposed to stay the same, he could have easily made this an installation for museums. I see where you are coming from, but you evidently did not understand the work.
Thanks for the comment and I fully understand your perspective. And you have a right to your opinion. However making accusations like "you have missed the whole point of the installation" and "you evidently did not understand the work" are hopelessly ignorant and avoid sensible discourse on the matter. I'm not saying you're wrong, but rather abrasive and dismissive for no reason. I understand the work, I was around when it was first installed and remember that, but I have my own opinion of what it is like today. Again, thanks for your opinion.
Everything sucks in Amarillo 😂
What an ass
It's on I-40.... You can visit other places easily. There's a great art scene and generally people are really polite and traffic is low. I travel and spend a lot of time in other places so I see the good, too. But! We need good grocery stores(we do have Natural Grocers😊) we need Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and HEB,too!!! Now
I've been there before, I had a lady yell at me because it was a little windy and some paint went in the general direction of their kids lol
I live in Amarillo and people are so disrespectful to road and barriers, get rid of Cadillac ranch it’s a huge eye sore
i’ve unfortunately lived in amarillo for 22 years and have never been there
They were really pretty when they were first put in by Stanley Marsh.
👍🙏
My best friends are the ones who moved them to where they are today, soooo 😂😂
They even spray painted the dumpsters there too. I see it a lot
I drive past this everyday. 90% of the tome it’s too windy to use a shaker can outdoors but if people want to stop then have at it. All the garbage they leave behind is the real eyesore.
I don't think you know what you're talking about. It's never crowded and really a "foot spray paint?" The people are nice and share the spray paint and it's cool to write something then take a pic of it to share and let others know you were there. I know they were nicer when they were first buried but even if they were untouched they wouldn't look as nice now.
I live in Amarillo. I’ve never even entertained the idea of going out there lol.
It’s a pretty cool concept but kind of past it’s time in need of a revamp
If the cars had sat there untouched the entire time they would be severely weathered & not look much better than they do with paint on them. Why get upset when it was installed as an art piece in the first place, let the art continue.
Thanks for the comment, but I respectfully disagree with your assessment. But I also realize they are beautiful to some people and that’s fine, it’s just an opinion. You can see from the comments that some people think the place is wonderful, and others think it’s an eyesore. Nobody is wrong. It’s just how you feel about it. And whether you like Cadillac Ranch or not, it does not determine whether or not you are a miserable person.
I live in Amarillo as well! Growing up it was fun to spay paint the cars and from time to time my dad would take me there I took my kids recently and saw how much paint was on the cars they looking like tumors it made me sad. I thought they used to take care of them but seems like they dont. Its crazy how fast things will get covered in paint we were laying down fiber in front of the road and they were spray painting the cones we put down it was wild lol 😂
Thanks for the comment!
Some of you commenting on this are just so miserable. I dare you to go there and try to find something beautiful, just one thing to be happy about. Why does it always have to be so negative? Smh
They used to be painted white off and on to cover up graffiti but they stopped for some reason and people usually put names on them and take a picture for proof they were there but it has gotten out of hand
Live two miles from it, ain't worth it.
Thank you for the comment!
You don't have to pay to see it, it's free to go look at and it's unique because no one else has done it.
@@kimberlyhood4095 Besides the unbearably cruddy path to it and amount of travel vloggers that have overtaken the sight, it's just not a very appealing attraction for Amarillo anymore. I was born and raised here for 56 years.

I was rather surprised when I saw them.

I live in Amarillo and have never been to The Cadillac ranch ever in my 28 years residency. Those aren’t cars they are aluminum foil with pizza paint crust on them..
It's trash that makes every place it's done to just no longer a wonder

There was a rich guy that lived here and he did it on purpose he wanted people to do it…
I get what you mean tho it’s pretty dumb.
Never seen them in person, wish I had before they were spray bombed, they looked much much better before all that crap was done to those beautiful cars
I live in Amarillo and I went to Cadillac ranch a lot but haven’t been in 3 or 4 years and it didn’t look like that
I'm from Amarillo and yor right. Everything in Amarillo sucks. Big Texas sucks the worst food in Texas. Palo Duro sucks big hole in the ground you got to pay money to see. Let's not forget Wonder Dump a amusement park built in the 60s where everything is outdated and falling apart. All we are is one big truck stop nothing to see here just keep going down the road.
Ok don’t go to it if it sucks 😂
Well the dude who built it was a also a pedo 🤷🏽♂️
It is what it is

you must mean old Stanley Marsh.

Stanley Marsh the guy that made it was a sexual predator and is personified in Cars as Stanley because of his ties with the giant evil Disney corp
I just went there a couple days ago visiting from California and there were like 6 people there but I wouldn’t expect there to be more because it’s pretty lame and yeah it just gets painted over the next day by someone else.
I think you are complaining about them being utilized as intended, tourists, paint and so on
