Lol you got to love them cheep disconnect boxes 😂😂😂 I was honestly thinking short in T stat wire or a dead short on the contractor to ground…. Great troubleshooting.!!! I always figured a great troubleshooter was worth more to me than a great installer.
I am mechanically inclined and love to DIY everything. That said I am not HVAC savvy, til a few days ago when I turned on the AC for the 1st time of the seasom when it smoked something within a minute. Much research and a parts cannon later I have a much better grasp of a low voltage circuit. appx $200 in parts from Amazon later I am sitting in a cool dry house and I did it! These vids are awesome for us neophytes. My ex wife just spent $800 with a service tech getting hers back up. :-) Yeah, I know, I still have some anger issues. I won by $600. The problem ended up being son #1 was weed eating around the house a few days prior. He snagged a skinny lil wire at the condenser unit and it looked OK. 3 feet back under the wood box guard the 2 wires were deteriorated and touching each other. I ohmed across these 2 wires up at the contactor coil (wires not connected) and got an open so thought the wires were fine. Always visually inspect everything! Would have saved me the $200 but now I have some spare parts for next time and I got some not quite instant gratification. Service techs gotta make a living too but my nature is DIY and spend that money on toys.
If that low voltage terminal block was dangling I’d say that was the issue….ten seconds later I was wrong. Nice job. Did a nice Bosch yesterday…BOVA-60…when you coming to Florida? I make my maintenance tech watch your videos for homework.
I just moved into a new home and want to instal an ecobee. I went to the transformer and only have 1 segmenet of 24v through the RED secondary, the GREEN secondary is grounded and doesnt have constant 24v. The GREEN wire is connected to my BLUE C wire. the result is that Im not getting constant power to my thermostat C wire. Is this a wiring problem?
great video, my transformer has a blue and yellow wire on the low voltage side. the blue has 24v but yellow has no voltage. My unit works fine as far as I know. does that mean I need a new transformer? I have no control board.
Nice video thank you but I’m not understanding how it works. I’m not understanding what the sequence is but I’m going to watch it a few times and maybe it will be clear.
Thank you sr you save me $ time. I'm a home owner in New jersey here everything cost so much this guy came to my house saying yes to fix your problem we taking about 1,200$ I was like nope thank you 7/2/24
Testing not guessing. Another fine job Mike. Make the trades great again.
The true meaning of “Diagnosis and Repair”!
I will check my contactor this afternoon, I have blown 3 transformers trying to find a short, THANK YOU!
Good luck!

How do you like those Wagu connectors
Mikey... how do you feel about the Bryant brand?
When did wago fix the fatal fault in their design. (Contact only on 2 points of wire)
Love my new Wago butt connectors!
What is the advantage of single pole contactor vs double pole?
@@PipeDoctor is there a reason you would want/need that?
@@PipeDoctor thanks Mikey. Just never heard it explained before
I would put breaker in 24v line to protect transformer if it isnt there..
Bad contactor or shorted low voltage wire
Good job. Fyi, a Shunt goes across without interruption.
A stunt is what Evil Kinevil used to do.
Not being a dick. I would want someone to tell me
I take it that the system had no fuse to protect transformer why not add one. Professional touch. For next guy, maybe you
A 50Va Transformer? I honestly expected a 75Va out of a master plumber. Zone heads baby lol
What if the blower doesn't turn on that means you have bad blower moter??????
ANYONE?

@@PipeDoctor No charge, LOL
Bud Lights VP of marketing killed the transformer
