    The composition and layout of this oil painting are arranged in a staggered manner, showcasing a profound sense of hierarchy and cleverly guiding the viewer's gaze, making them feel as if they are in the world of the painting. Whether through color contrast, light and shadow effects, or object placement, they successfully direct the viewer's attention to the core of the picture, allowing them to immediately feel the theme and emotions of the work.

      It’s still a bit debated amongst scholars what was meant. Most likely, the meanings and stories changed like most mythological systems. There’s a story in the Volsungs about a Valkyrie named Brynhilde who is punished by Odin for choosing to not kill a warrior that he wanted. So, that implies it’s not completely the Valkyries choice but rather Odin and/or Freyja’s choice. Then you have the Norns who create the destinies of men…it’s a bit convoluted and most likely it changed throughout time and regions.

      I’ve been working professionally as a designer and illustrator for nearly 30 years. I use AI daily. All of us have been using references in our work since the inception of fine art; be it photography or other artists’ work. Do a reverse image search for the reference materials she’s used, and I guarantee you won’t find a match. Meaning this reference is far removed from the numerous images it used in its training algorithm. The ideology that generative AI is copying artwork is staggeringly misunderstood. Before you start denigrating other professionals, learn how it works and learn why artists were actually up in arms about how these tools work.

      I am not a huge fan of AI but it doesn't make sense to me to say that someone is reproducing art by using compiled images from AI. Artists have been taking inspiration from other artists for centuries. People have been doing what she did in photoshop without AI for years. Surely there is a better argument against AI than that.

    Your technique is really amazing but I want to ask in the most kind way it’s possible. What’s even the point of painting already existing picture with all the mistakes AI makes, even in the video itself you had to fix the leg problem, when initially you plan without AI it’s easier to avoid the mistakes the ai generative software makes which is bad anatomy, bad lighting, bad composition and so on.

      Working with AI helps me creating referenc photos easier - if you just want to create a 'picture' for example to have it printed or for a product illustration, you absolutely don't need to paint it. But with original art the beauty lies in the creation process and how the artist translated the image into the physical medium of paint. It's one of a kind and can't be replicated. (The physical artwork that is) If you want to have something really meaningful and special in your home, a original artwork that is created only for you is the best thing you could have! 😊 Hope that made sense! 🥰

    • @AtomekKotalke
      @AtomekKotalke Місяць тому +4

      @@LiobaBrueckner I kind of understand the physical painting point of view but don’t understand the rest. Does that mean a digital painting without help of using generative AI software is worth less than physical painting made with paints and academic skills and techniques made with help of gen. AI software? I think something is wrong with that especially if the software in question works only because of stolen art of thousands of living artists in databases. I still don’t get what’s the point of doing a copy of mix of art that wasn’t made by artist that uses it because this software makes collages of stolen art it even tries to copy signatures and fails at that, what’s the point of using digital image generated with all mistakes this software makes, why fix mistakes of AI while instead there are resources for art creation without the mistakes this software makes.

    Why is everyone crying about her using AI for her references? It's the same as if she would took images from Pinterest, Shutterstock etc to put together a reference in photoshop and then draw it like that. You always put your own thoughts, experience and style to it - doesn't matter what kind of reference you use. Nothing weird or wrong about it. And everytime I see someone crying about the use of AI they probably have no idea how easier it makes your work when you're a person who works as an artist like Lioba or as a designer like me.

It is a bit of a long read but I feel that many are missing out on a very useful tool that can help an artist. I think there is a lot of misinformation out there about ai. Like any tool it can be abused but it can also be used appropriately and can greatly help an artist in their source creations. If we keep sharing how it can be used appropriately, which I feel this artist did, I hope we can show people how beneficial it can be. It’s great to find someone else out there that realizes this! ❤❤❤

    Interesting video, but I'm disappointed about the use of Ai. There's good technique but I don’t have much respect for the image.

    • @JaeElle
      @JaeElle 19 днів тому +2

      I can respect your opinion however in my opinion, and personal experience, artists get inspiration by looking at other art. Ai can look at Valkyrie from billions of sources creating something unique. The artist then takes that image and alters it to look like the image in their head. Then the artist uses that as a reference for their painting.
      We can be angry that ai is more efficient at gathering references than we are, but we humans do the exact same. Have you played around with the ai generators at all? You should when you have a moment, they are helpful but tricky. To create exactly what you want you need a good prompt. You typically pay for each image you generate, you need to generate a LOT to make a source for your painting. You learn quickly that how you phrase your prompt is key. Yes, you could totally put in “Sunflower in blue sky in the style of Rembrandt’ however that’s not what most artists are doing. We are creating elaborate queries that span styles we like with subjects we like to create a unique image. We then take that image and alter it dozens of times. You won’t get normal looking hands, often body parts do weird angles, ai does weird stuff lol. So we take the images we like then alter them in photoshop. often doing things like this artist mentioned, taking photos from our own hands/feet/face/elbow lol, and then adding this to the created image.
      All of this is a ton of work that goes into a source image to paint from. It is no different from the other method I do of scrolling through Pinterest to make a folder of a hundred inspirational paintings that fit the style of what I’m thinking of, combining that with the folder of reference photos of say, a lady’s face or body and some images of cool trees I like etc. then I dump all images into Photoshop and start hacking away to create a reference image I want.
      I do take a ton of photos to use sad reference but I do a lot of surreal work which gets wonky sometimes. Anyway, this long post is really boiling down to this. I don’t want artists to miss out on a great tool. Most recently I was needing a good surreal moon reference, I wanted a face on it. I input my sketch of a moon with a face to the generator, added some prompts, 40ish images later I got something interesting that I could work with. I then altered that image in PS and added it to my source image I am building. It is an excellent tool to help you get started on a source. Can it be abused to “create” a new book about astrology that literally copies chunks of other books? Yes. Can it pull info from other artists work to help it create an image? Yes. Can I do the exact same thing for my source? Yes. Should we be responsible artists using a great tool that can help us create more unique images? In my opinion, absolutely.
      In my art classes there was a section that was titled “steal like an artist” it referred to a book by the same name. We take inspiration from other artists constantly. This can help someone with an idea in their head get it fleshed out.
      I’m not sure what medium you work in but I would encourage you to play with ai before making a judgement. Every artist friend that I have spoken to that was anti ai has been wonderful and actually listened to my side as well as played with ai. Some made the decision to not use ai because their current source making method works better for them. Others changed their mind to “Like any tool, if properly used, it can be an asset to the artist, like any tool it can be abused, but we should not judge an artist for using it properly’.
      I do hope you will take a moment to play with one of the generators. It may be helpful to your art, or not, but it should help you understand what the tool is and what it isn’t.
      Sorry this was so long lol. Thanks!

      @@JaeElle Thanks for the in-depth reply. I can see you're passionate about the subject, so please don't take my disagreement as personal attack.
      I understand the argument that artists source images via reference photos, or images from other artists, and I understand some may see this akin to what AI is doing. I disagree with this wholeheartedly. When you're collecting sources and references from other artists; that's "you" that's interpreting the material. You reference images because something the artist created resonated with you, whether that's the composition, technique, colors etc. Or with photos, something about the photo spoke to you; whether it's the texture, or simply it's a good reference photo with good lighting; but let's be honest, no one is using AI to search what a fox looks like.
      I think by letting AI take over more of the process, artists are taking away from themselves. It's not their brain that's generating the image. I don't believe anyone who says, "AI just created what was in my head!" That's a lie; the artist settled for what's close enough or settled for something else that was given to them.
      If someone is using ai, then heck, why not let AI just do the whole darn thing for you.
      Type in a prompt (even if typing creatively is hard), get an image, then send it off to a print shop to have them print on a canvas for you. BAM, that's a new age
      artist for you. "What's the difference, I'm still creating something; just doing it more efficiently."
      This is of course, my opinion and my outlook. To reiterate, I think by letting AI take over more of the process, artists are taking away from themselves; and I don't respect that.

It takes some effort, but it's definitely not a lie. However AI images often have a lot of mistakes that you'd have to fix if you want to use them for a real product. You can do that i've you're experienced with AI generators and know how the important extensions work, but that's quite a learning effort and most AI images are made by hobbyists who just want a pretty picture.
