Thank you, finally a short video that's straight to the point but has loads of information! I used to eat these as a kid and was stoked to finally see them in a grocery store again! Going to try my best to propagate them. Thank you for your video!!
I've been waiting to find sugar cane and I actually found a whole stock at our local food city for 3:99 it's from Mexico an were Arizona so I think the weather would work! So excited to grow this. Blessings
Hi Tia! Let me tell you that was a great informative video! Helped a lot, can’t wait to get the cuttings and pot them! Sounds like a great summer hobbie… ☀️☀️🤤 Thank you, All best!!
@@TiaSilvasy indeed! Put the cane in water until started to root then cut the segments and potted them, now the buds are happily picking towards the sky. 🥰🥰 I’m a DAD!!!!! 🤣
@@TiaSilvasy Thanks so much Tia. I am rooting some more pieces of sugarcane right now, although I probably have more failures than successes. But it is fun
Is there a specific time of the season to propogate the cuttings? I’m in zone 9 so just curious if it’ll grow right now in June as the summer’s already here.
Sugarcane likes subtropical or tropical weather. It can withstand a light freeze but not a heavy freeze. If the weather is going to get very cold, below freezing you can cover the plant in mulch overnight or for a day or two.
There are over 100 varieties of sugarcane, I'm not sure which one this one it. It has a yellow-green stalk, so thats one identifying characteristic. You can get a cutting from a friend or try an edible plant nursery that ships such as Green Dreams or A Natural Farm.
I don't have much of a problem with ants in my cuttings, maybe cover with a light layer of mulch or put your pot or propagation table in saucers of water.
Yes sugarcane is a very hardy plant. It should still grow even if some of the nodes are damaged. Give it some time to grow and at least a few nodes should sprout.
After you plant the sugar cane cuttings water them maybe every other day or twice a week. You want to keep the soil moist and let it dry out between waterings. Don't overwater or it may rot.
Love the simplicity of this video. No fuss or filler. Propagating some today from a friend's cuttings

The sugarcane is very easy to propagate. I chopped some up and threw it in my compost pile and now it wants to grow!
Short, sweet, straight to the nodes 😊👍
Thanks for your video 🙏
BEST sugar cane propagation video out there. Hands down. THANK YOU for breaking it down in easy to digest chunks. YOU’RE AMAZING!!!! 🎉 👏🏼 👏🏼🤩
Thanks for the positive feedback!
You made my day by making short and informative video in very less time
Thank you for this video and the in depth look into the pots and roots .. very helpful
Glad you like the video!
Thank you aunt
Great Video and information from your MGV-Sarasota friend!

They're pretty easy to find and propagate so mail ordering could be an option for you too. Good luck with your sugarcane propagation!
Nice l grow sugarcane as well the one you have is a sweet one
I have a purple variety too that looks very pretty.
Thank you
Hi Tia!
Let me tell you that was a great informative video! Helped a lot, can’t wait to get the cuttings and pot them! Sounds like a great summer hobbie… ☀️☀️🤤
Thank you,
All best!!
You are welcome! Sugarcane grows very well in subtropical and tropical regions and is pretty easy to propagate. Have fun with your gardening!

Thank you, it was very informative.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Thanks! I really appreciate you!!
Chop up the sugar cane up and boil in water for hours until syrupy. That's how we extract the sugar in Hawaii, without a juicer. Easy.
Thank you so much! That is a great idea!
Very informative. I am growing the impossible. Growing sugarcane in the UK.
Sounds like a fun experiment! Good luck with that!

I'm in zone 9 too, my dad grows them easily so I asked for cuttings and on my way now! Think you'll enjoy it too
In zone 9 you can do sugarcane any time of the year. I would avoid making cuttings when the temperatures will be below 45 degrees F.
Well explained tanq
Thanks for your positive feedback!
Thank you for the video, where can gardeners find disease resistant seed canes?
thank you, short video but detailed
Glad it was helpful!
Does sugar cane favor a certain weather type. Im in California so i dont think i have anything to worry about

Thanks!
dont the underground nodes put out roots? There should be rooted plantlets growing from the clump that you can divide off; no cuttings needed.
Yes, but they are a little harder to get too. It also depends how many cuttings you want. They propagate easy so I don't make too much extra effort.
What variety is this sugar cane and how do I get the variety to plant please thank you

Can it be propagated if planted in water instead of soil ?
Yes, I just saw a video of them putting both 1-2 nodes in water. He changed the water every few days
Well done💯
Thank you 😊
How can I keep ants out of the cuttings?
I don't have much of a problem with ants in my cuttings, maybe cover with a light layer of mulch or put your pot or propagation table in saucers of water.
I bought some sugar cane and the nodes looks damage. Will they still sprout?

When do I start watering newly planted sugar cane
After you plant the sugar cane cuttings water them maybe every other day or twice a week. You want to keep the soil moist and let it dry out between waterings. Don't overwater or it may rot.
