Even her name incredible temple accurately points her mental faculties and black doesn't point the shades her persona a brilliant light she certainly was. No doubt no question love her
Shirley Temple co-starred and danced with an army of seasoned lifelong professionals who cut their teeth in Vaudeville.....and held her own! Truly a remarkable talent.
If I were a doctor I would prescribe watching this video once a day for just about any condition you might have. Or more than once. I just read Child Star, Shirley's autobiography, and she writes that the film crew gave her and George a round of applause after this dance, and they ended up doing the whole thing over, orchestra and all, just for fun. I can believe it. This is one of her best!
Agreed! I also want to add, that not only does this performance have such class, elegance, and sophistication, the great use of space, the magnificent room, the language in their dance describes and communicates purely and squarely a lady and a gentleman. How could one not only adore both of them together in this stunning work of art that is a dance - but not “fall in love” with her over and over and over again. That child who grew up to become one heck of a classy lady was golden! ❤🎉
I have not seen this in forever! This was one of my favorite Shirley routines. If these movies were made in the 2000's, I would say if only Little Mumble could see this now. Happy Feet reference intended
if you read up on her history in stardom no one would envy her. she was so incredibly talented and wonderful that it breaks hearts to find out she was so abused in so many ways.
@not2tees - Gee - thanks for the that bit of information. I knew by their expression dancing that George and Shirley love dancing together. WOW.. thanks!! By the way I agree everyone should watch Shirley's movies to feel better and I do for that same reason. Love her!!!
Unlike Astaire and Kelly, he was tall (5'11") and built like a linebacker, so his gracefulness always comes as a surprise, no matter how many times you've seen him. Unfortunately, he was already 36 when he made this movie, so the golden age of movie musicals kind of eluded him. Unlike the others, he moved into character acting and then politics, both quite successfully.
I'm in awe of Astair and Kelly. But I think I more enjoy watching George Murphy dance. Of course he's not an average guy - but he reads as your relative or neighbor who possesses a surprising flair for dancing. On top of the talent, they both come across as very likable. What a delightful clip!
For those who get into that silly discussion: the story that Shirley Temple was in contention for the role of Dorothy of the (1939) "Wizard off Oz", is just not true. This clip dates from 1938 when Shirley Temple was about age 9; she had neither the vocal range nor the acting range that 16 year old Judy Garland brought to the role.
I love George Raft and Shirley dancing together.. Love the Music - Let's Get Together! Naturally Bojanles is the best - but I love this skit with George and Shirley.
I love Kym Karath (who plays Gretl in Sound of Music), but... if that movie had been in Shirley's time, she would have gotten that part for sure! Who can see it? "The sun has gone to bed and so must I.." 🙂
We should be together Like the walls and ceiling Like a door and doorknob Like the hat on your knob Like butler gold with doorbell Keyhole with key I think we'll get by If you'll stick with me We should be together Like the frame and picture Like shoes and stockings Like the clocks tick tockings Like captain told like high and low Shop and go honey Your a perfect lady Your a regular guy We should be together, you and I Your a cup of coffee Your a peachy pie We should be together, you and I
When God gave this child talent, He was in a very good mood!! What a wonderful performer Shirley Temple was. RIP.
Let's be thankful for leaving all generations her legacy.
But with so much talent also comes with great misery. Poor girl..her whole career was sexualized by pervy men and her innocence was long gone. RIP.
Even her name incredible temple accurately points her mental faculties and black doesn't point the shades her persona a brilliant light she certainly was. No doubt no question love her
I loved watching Shirley Temple when I was a child. I had no idea that this movie was made when my mother was TWO.
The movies are so timeless!
Shirley Temple would have totally been "Annie" if the Broadway musical was around in her time.
theatrefreakazoid44 Yeah Annie was actually set in the 30s and most of the kids’ choreographys were inspired by shirley temple type dances
There were actually two Annie films back in the day, none of which starred Temple.
theatrefreakazoid44 Musicals were not focused on story until Oklahoma came along in 1943
@@anniewarbucks1794 Low budget, though Mitzi Greene was wonderful.
Not quite. SHOWBOAT has just as much of a story as OKLAHOMA!

The foot work was superb, I had to watch it over and over.
I've always loved Shirley Temple and now that I'm taking tap, I idolize her. She is my tap idol and I will nev r forget her. RIP Shirley Temple
She probably took dance lessons from black people - who are the best at tap dancing.
Sunny Shores Maybe from Uncle Billy
Kai A. I have been wanting tap since i was a teenager.

Watching this during the Pandemic. RX for sure!

Love it! Love it! Love it! Bless Shirley she was a bundle of joy and so talented. RIP
I love Shirley's costumes. I hope someday I have a little girl who I can dress up like this.
Você pôde?

George was a fantastic dancer & performer.
Check out his dance duet with Fred Astaire in Broadway Melody of 1940.
It's brilliant & SO slick !
that song remainded me of "i don't need anything but you" from Annie.
Abi Dubs Prodection I prefer 1999 Annie over 1982 Annie
Absolutely! They clearly borrowed from it!
Oh gawd she was *such* a talented little cutie. Times have changed and there could never be another one like her.
Chris Lewis m
what a wonderful dance routine, she was marvelous both acting and dancing.
I have not seen this in forever! This was one of my favorite Shirley routines. If these movies were made in the 2000's, I would say if only Little Mumble could see this now. Happy Feet reference intended
She had a career anyone would envy- she got to work with so many talented people because she was talented as well!
if you read up on her history in stardom no one would envy her. she was so incredibly talented and wonderful that it breaks hearts to find out she was so abused in so many ways.
She was mk ultra before anyone knew what it was
Que niña tan talentosa y hermosa, con un carisma único. Su sonrisa es encantadora. Que en paz descanse la única e inigualable Shirley Temple ❤
This reminds me so much of the last song in Annie.
They kept making her outfits shorter and shorter as she got older. While she was very young her skirts were much too short.
Yesss
I love this number! Thanks for uploading it
my favorite Shirley Temple movie EVER and one of my favorite songs... oh how I wish for the soundtrack, hmmm.
Things were so much better back then
. I miss it.
Better for who?
Fun dancer, actress and all around wonderful woman whom I admired RIP
I was Lucy too
She is a kid here even though she is dancing with a man. I guess there were no kids anywhere.
@not2tees - Gee - thanks for the that bit of information. I knew by their expression dancing that George and Shirley love dancing together. WOW.. thanks!!

Artistic representation of 1930s relationships between producers and child actors
Only 1 Shirley Temple..sooo full of Talent n I loved Him in allll his movies!! Makes me still smile😂
Ein schöner Ausschnitt mit Shirley Temple!
I think george murphy was always so under rated as a dancer seeing how many great musicals he was in
Unlike Astaire and Kelly, he was tall (5'11") and built like a linebacker, so his gracefulness always comes as a surprise, no matter how many times you've seen him. Ha this is my production duet with my bff isaiah!!! Awesome !!!
I MISS THIS WORLD!!!
you do know you what was going on in this time right? The pain minorities had to experience, it's not worth going back for tap dancing sorry
@@imanif829 That is what some people miss.

George Murphy was later elected a United States Senator from California. He served from 1965 to 1971.

I love how they dancedd
thanks Shirley Temple!
i love it
Watching this always makes me happy. What a team.
Besides the Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah song/dance with Bojangles, this is my favorite dance number. Mr. Murphy and Shirley were great together!
Better with father
Netal tap shoes charol too
Metal tap shoes , charol too
In 'The Great Movie Stars' David Shipman captioned a still from this number 'In the good old days before they went into politics'.

Mirabelle Buttersfield She died the day after my 21st birthday
I love Kym Karath (who plays Gretl in Sound of Music), but... if that movie had been in Shirley's time, she would have gotten that part for sure! Who can see it? "The sun has gone to bed and so must I.." 🙂
We should be together

If you'll stick with me
We should be together

Like captain told like high and low
Shop and go honey
Your a perfect lady
Your a regular guy
We should be together, you and I
Your a cup of coffee
Your a peachy pie
We should be together, you and I
Did anybody else have a flashback to Annie?...
Kaitlynn Weller Meybe they get inspaired by this.
Sooooooooooo many tap dancing videos performed by Shirley herself.
You can't compare Miss Shirley to the likes of Annie.
David Phenix It seems odd Shirley and the Annie comic strip existed in the 30's.
🥰🥰🥰
Imagine them suddenly moonwalking?! Haha!
Senator George Murphy
Sen. Murphy and Amb. Temple. Who'd a thunk it?
This would have been better in the original ( non-colorized ) version
James Ryan I originally saw this in color
Man 1938, good times. 😂 idk
You can't go wrong with shirley! Check out my new MGM style web series!!
I LOVE to see George Murphy dance! He's better than Astaire, in my opinion.
Documenty Intrvew Tcm t.v. show respect review 1938 Movie 30s New DVD yers
