as a future teacher i had actually thought of these as a neat project for kids. its great to see another teacher having the same idea! teaches patience and fine motor skills
Wow, that looks pretty amazing! I'm really a complete rookie making things with my hands, but this tutorial really looks doable and pretty straightforward! Nice of you to break it down and show us how it's done.
That's cool. Custodians can be full of information. When I was in elementary school the custodian there would come talk to me at recess. He was the reason for my deep love & appreciation for Victorian artworks. He had a huge collection at his house of Victorian cards & each week would bring some by the school to show me at recess. He was much older & I wondered sometimes after I was older if he had any grandchildren that perhaps didn't live close by because he had an air of loneliness. - Heidi
i made one yesterday out of copper. turned out pretty good. :) the copper was easy to bend and it has tha golden glow and i heated the tipps so they turned in to blue ... purple.
Have you considered using soda cans, sheet stick (aluminum, copper, brass, pewter)? If you're painting, then a soda can may be cheaper and lighter. Fun project. Alan Stratton
Hi I make metal jewelry and have been trying to figure out how to bend about 21 gauge metal into a calla lily flower shape for earrings.... I think I can use this method for some of it then simply cut the petals off. If you ever make a Calla lily flower let me know, I will keep checking back....Good job by the way
use thinner gauge metal & it will be easier to bend with the pliers, try using copper sheet or aluminium cut from a drink can ie: coke fanta etc & the bonus is it will be very light too, another idea i just had was to scuff the metal with some steel wool or wet & dry sandpaper (fine grade) to remove the printing of the outside of the can,if u use coarse grade sandpaper & scuff it in a cross hatch pattern it will create a textured look on the metal too, transparent paint ie: red or green should create a deeper shade of color against the grey of the metal & provide a more natural looking color (darker red) use your imagination & you will even better results, btw you'll get 2 squares (@ 3 1/2 inches square ) so you'll need 2 cans per rose :)
have your students beat the metal with a cross pean hammer going dow the the petals like l's and than beat it with a ball pean hammer this will give it more of a petal texture and look more real also make the holes 1/8'' wide and you can put it on a stick electrode and weld it together take a piece of aluminum 1/2" wide drill a 1/8" hole and stick it in there and put a mig bead to slide the petals on than put a bead to hold them than you can put it in a vice and move the petals

Tried it out with a few soda cans and it looks pretty good. Would rather do sheet metal though, the pop rivet gave me problems at times with the cans.
woaw, love the safety with the gloves!

This is so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. Subscribed!!
Very Cool. I will try making one. Thank you for the video.
- very nice, Thanks for sharing.
soo much different on how we make our roses in my welding class but they're nice! Easier to use a torch!
very nice! how big are the larger circles?
Gonna try this.

This is good advice, I might use some of this if I decide to make one of these
Thanks :D
Nice work

Thanks for the upload!!!!
great tutorial!
how did you make the ovals fir the petals?
Are you a sheet metal worker? I've done this at my apprenticeship school. Local 7 Michigan here
You can tell he isn't because of the yellow snips. Local 8 Albera NWT here.
how do you measure your ovals for the petals?
It would be easier if you maybe heated it with a torch and then they would be more workable and easier to bend
Robert Zamorano if you did that use welder gloves for the heat
reefy mcscrudge and
That has to be like 20ga or like 22 maybe ?? I'd like to know also
Yea beautiful.
this is good. what is the thickness of this metal sheet
26 or 28 gauge probably.
Its a whole lot easier to bend when heated with a torch
very beautiful
How did you make the hole?
he used magic...
+AniaChii awesome lol.
he probably used a drill or a drill press lol.
nice
