Technically yes, the ownership "changed". But not in the way most regimes change. Willam Clay Ford passed away. His wife took over. She put her daughter in charge of the team. The ownership will forever remain a part of the Ford family, but now there is a family member who actually CARED about making the Lions a good team.
Good call! Brian Branch was the steal of the draft. He has such a chip on his shoulder because he dropped to the late second round. Detroit was shocked that he was still there, so they moved up to grab him. He has been their best defender since Hutchinson went down, and he’s only in his second year.
Yeah, Ben Johnson is going to be able to pick which franchise he wants to go to. He will be every single team’s top choice. I doubt he is picking the Jags. Sorry guys.
@@roems6396 A lions fan here. Ben Johnson stayed in Detroit for 2 reasons. 1) He wants to see the big goal accomplished with this organization. Secondly, his family really loves it here. But if he were to leave. I see Jacksonville as probably one of his top choices. You guys have the QB!!! Dallas, Chicago, Jets, Giants, Raiders, Browns & Titans can't compare. The Jaguars have a decent Nucleus......especially having the QB already. So if our coordinators leave. I see Aaron Glenn to the Saints.......and I think Ben Johnson would absolutely go to the Jags. Good Luck on the rest of the season. Except of course for today.
Change starts at the top. Lions were NEVER run properly before Sheila Hamp Ford took over ownership. She learned how indifferently (or poorly) many tiers of the organization were treated. Her mission became to make the ENTIRE organization a welcome positive environment from top to bottom.Getting EVERYONE to be invested in winning. She hired heart-of-warrior Chris Speilman to help find HIS KIND of folks to run things. The current Lions bear more of Sheila and Speilman's mark than even Campbell and Holmes.
I agree she definitely was more interesting in winning than her parents, Speilman was key in identifying Brad, and Dan, but the football grit and culture change was all Brad and Dan.
For the Mason Smith point. Brad Holmes drafted Jameson Williams in the first round knowing that he wouldn't contribute much in year one. He drafted Hendon Hooker in the 3rd and Levi O in the 2nd who were both injured. He drafted Broderick Martin knowing he would need a year and the same with Manu this year. He drafted S Vaki knowing he would be special teams. My point is that drafting M. Smith doesn't mean that the GM and HC aren't on the same page. Holmes says finding the right guys is the hard part and they don't mind waiting for guys to catch up or heal up.
Lions fan here; Sheila Hamp didn't listen to the "Fire Dan Campbell chants" when they were losing. Personally, I think Doug Peterson is a player or two away from contending. Look how close they're losing... it's not all his fault.
Sheila Hamp, stuck with Campbell, and Holmes after 4/19/1 start. Since 30 and 9 counting playoffs. The people in Detroit wanted Urban Meyer. You have a Super Bowl winning coach. Who may not last much longer. It took the guts of Mrs. Hamp to say, " These are my guys!" Give it time. I will admit it at 4/19/1? The kneecap guy? Looked like SOL. The thing is? Close and still fighting. Good Luck. Just not on Lions day.
Well thought out commentary. It's essential for ownership, coaching staff, and front office to have one vision. Easier said than done however with different egos and levels of job security. It's why so few teams are able to do what Detroit has done.
Jacksonville can have a team just like Detroits first they have to trade away thier 14 year starting QB for some first round picks and a pro bowl QB and parlay those picks into 6 pro bowl starters for your team
This is an excellent point. Although it’s 100% true that the culture changed, and the Lions got great coaches, and picks from their GM. But the biggest part of their rebuild was turning those several number 1 picks from that trade, into viable starters…and luckily being able to rebuild Goff into a top tier QB. They wouldn’t be near their current height if they had to move on from Goff, which is what everyone thought was going to happen. But that comes down to the coaches as well. Goff was a broken QB who LA was willing to trade away multiple first round and a 3rd round pick to get rid of him. They rebuilt his confidence and he’s been balling out of control this year.
Don’t want to sound like Captain Obvious, Khan have to hire the right GM and head coach… that’s a recipe for success including a franchise QB… look at the chiefs before Andy Reid took over and now the lions with Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes
Heres the thing the lions rebuild started 2021 with the peneii sewell pick a hall of fame tackle. Tbh the chargers are following in the lions' rebuild steps with joe ault. If the bears were a smart organization, they would draft ault instead of williams in my opinion i think you would of been in a better place with fields and ault protecting him.
I would say they are going to learn what a major beat down looks like, but the Bills already taught them that. There is probably almost zero serious fans that believe we should stick with this GM or coaching staff. It is time to move on, but do it right. Fire them all and start fresh. Don't bs with firing one guy and leave the rest. The only coach on this team who seems good is special teams.
Baalke and pederson not working together. Pederson wants o line upgrades for past 3 seasons like his SB eagles were built. Baalke wants to gamble on defensive specimens.
I wanted Hutch and Brian Branch as well....both are great players...I think our underperformers are guys Devin Lloyd, Chad Mumma, Brent Strange, Walker Little, Luke Fortner. Only counting rds 1-3 and NOT counting most recent draft. Devin lloyd not playing like a 1st rder...Mumma is just a guy....Strange arrow is up but should not have been taken 2nd rd...Walker little was 2nd rder...is too inconsistent...Luke Fortner will probably get a chance again but he didnt work out...
Strange isn’t getting the ball anymore bc we are force feeding Evan Engram for no reason. Hell we aren’t event throwing the ball to our best player. This team love to waste guys rookie seasons for no reason.
Gonna learn to see just how incompetent of an owner Shad Khan is going to be. If he cleans house after tomorrow there just might be a glimmer of hope in the Jags future.
This franchise has gotten so pathetic that they now simply accept getting waxed on a weekly basis and leaving the fans to “learn from it “. The sooner this clown 🤡 show circus leaves town the better!
Lions changed OWNERS. That owner hired the best and gives support. 😊

U already used up thst card lol

The whole organization for the lions works together!!! Jaguars have never had that honestly!
Ben Johnson is about to destroy that Ryan Nielsen defense real quick like so he won't even have to interview for the job 😂
This game IS going to be the interview
Ben Johnson is'nt not going to leave Detroit for a shit show no matter how much money Jacksonvilles owner throws at him

Everything above, plus Holmes is the player evaluator and Campbell is the FACE and LEADER or the team.

Exactly, some of these comparisons are wild and fanatic as hell. We have no information that Doug and Trent are not aligned.

I cant take the jags owner seriously with that stash 😂

What bizarro world are we living in that teams are now looking at the Lions as a franchise that others should model themselves after???
😂😂😂
They need to set a tone and change the culture. Win or lose. --from a Lions fan
Y'all messed up by not drafting Aidan tbh

The problem is the owner care more about wrestling
Baalke pick no names dats y 😂😂😂😂 he pick mfs don’t get talk about in college

but have you noticed how many players say they have a "great team" when they get interviewed...I am like WHAT are you even Talking about??!!
😡😡
They’ll learn how to get beat 38-3 🫣
