The house turned out to be much older than we thought (1840-60's era) but unfortunately, like many, the privy showed evidence of being "dipped". This is when they would clean out/empty the contents of the pit, discarding them elsewhere and prolonging the time they could keep using this hole to avoid having to dig another pit and move the outhouse over. Despite it being dipped, and a fairly small wood-lined pit, we were still able to pull some pretty sweet finds! Mike pulled his first pontil bottle and we got into some nice local druggists, sodas, and a rare embossed cure!
Hope you enjoyed the video! Be sure to check out our other videos as well. We are new to UA-cam, but not new to digging. We are experienced diggers who will be posting content as regularly as possible. Subscribe and click the bell icon notifications button so you can see when we post our new videos! Likes and comments are also greatly appreciated. We are located in upstate NY and dig many different towns in both New York and Pennsylvania.

It’s good to see younger people still digging. I started in the 1960’s and had to give up the digging in the late 1990’s due to a very bad back. I’m in my mid 70’s now and still buy bottles from time to time.😀 Congrats on 1000 subs. Keep on digging and good luck.
Thanks so much! Sorry to hear you can't dig anymore. At least you can still enjoy the hobby virtually and of course still collecting!
I was born in 77 and growing up in the 80's I remember rummaging through my mom and dad's bottle collection from when they use to go bottle digging back in the early 60's in Northern Ohio.
Bet they were digging some good stuff back then!
Awesome video! Great contest dudes!
Congratulations 👏🎉 I still remember my first time 😂 as well....it was a open pontiled Mrs.Winslows.
So much cool stuff in that hole!😮
It was a fun one!
Thank you for the videos.
I enjoy your videos so much. Brings me back to the 70’s when I dug a lot. Keep it going !

Thanks Jack!!
Great dig. Fun one to watch.
This dig you did near Owego, NY is about 26 miles from where I live in Ithaca, NY. Would love to tag along sometime and do some scraping, etc. Just can't do much shoveling because of double Rotator Cuff surgeries on both shoulders.
Thanks so much Patricia! Glad you enjoyed it
Keep up the great work! Be safe!
Thanks Steve!
That’s an amazing dig and such fun to watch! I dig also but I rarely find anything older than 1920s so it’s a treat to see someone else find them!😃
Thanks Mary, glad you enjoyed!! Keep digging, you'll get into some older stuff eventually! Maybe try finding different sites, as not every site was used early enough to have earlier bottles in them
@@ParlorCityPickersDiggers That’s sound advice! Thank you!😃. The treasure is there somewhere!

I have dug mixed pits before. You never know what you are going to find. Great video let's see more.
Thanks James! We have many other videos up currently and have a ton in the works as well!
awesome
Thanks Judy!
I've watched a whole lot of digging videos and done some dump digging of my own, and I've NEVER seen that style of ink. (I also sold antiques for 20 years.) That is one sweet ink!
Are you referring to the pontiled bottle that Mike pulled? That one's actually a medicine bottle
Nice finds!
Thanks!!
Just found you guys, great finds!
Thanks Lee!
Awesome finds
Thanks!!
Winner!!! Email us at dumpdigger607@gmail.com with your mailing address so we can send out the bottles!
BOTTLES!!!! 😊
😎
Awesome finds!
Appreciate it! Check out our metal detecting video if you haven't yet!
Thanks! I will!
Great finds. My brother is in Albuquerque and digs for bottles.
Thanks Robert!!
Love your videos. Though I'm down here in Tavares,FL, I spent most of my life in Cortland, NY area and gave gathered many bottles over the yrs. My son works in Oregon, N Y.
Thanks Gary! Cortland isn't far from us at all. Have any Binghamton bottles in your collection?
@@ParlorCityPickersDiggers : only a sample bottle of Dr. Kilmer's Swamp Root....aqua, tooled top. My collection is a little thin. I'll be 75 in March & have given my son's & Grandchildren 90 per cent of my bottles.. My greatest find is a hand blown, applied top, pontil'd strap side amber whiskey flask dated to 1862-1865 picked out off a lake shore here in Central FL. I appreciate your reply ... THANKS !!
Love watching these digging videos, only thing that sucks is that I want to go dig and cannot right now, we have so much snow up here in the Adirondacks of NY
Those milk bottles are really cool. I've just joined your channel. Travis from Crick Diggers told me to check you out. Look forward to seeing many more videos. I'll be going back and watching your older videos.
Thanks so much Kathy! Welcome to our channel
Milk bottles had different necks so the delivery person grabbed the right product for order....Milk was generally delivered in the dark so feeling the different necks ensured proper delivery.
Interesting.. Didn't know that! Figured it was just a way for one dairy to stand out from the rest
Love pontil bottles,,never found one
Tough to find dumps of that age, but it happens! Always the possibility of late throws too. But in my opinion, the older stuff is easier found in the privy. Have you dug privies before?
Cool
Thanks Ken!
Dig the videos...
Glad to hear it!
Winner will be drawn tonight at 11:59 EST!!! Get your comments in guys and good luck!
Awesome video, thinking of buying probe.
Thanks Russell! Wish I could point you in the right direction. We need to look into buying new ones as well. One of ours broke and the other needs a bead welded back on the tip
What I would like is an idea of what some of the bottle average price is. Would help a ton happy diggen
Watching too many Bottle Ned videos with this " bot" wordage lol. Great video have a good Thanksgiving.
Hahaha you're not wrong. We love bottle Ned!
Awesome finds. Would love to find an open pontil. I get close, maybe late 1860s, but nothing old enough for pontil
Keep on digging! You'll get one 😎
The Heinz 111, 211, and 213 are the tapered multi-sided with the fluted bottom, and any other number is a scarce bottle with critical informaiton on any of these bottles by the actual makers and dates.
I dug all over my area in the 60s and never dug a pontiled bottle. Then it was time to hook up to the city sewer system and we dug a hole in the front yard and we discovered an 1840s trash pit! And my Dad wouldn't let me finish it before I was done! Some puffs mocha ware and a beautiful broken double eagle half pint that I believe my pops smashed unintentionally 🙁
Damn!!
Thats a weird bulbous sheared neck conical ink bot - never seen one like that before.
Some people would love to have the canning jars even if they’re not super old. People are using them in their pantries for storage.
The homeowner kept some and we threw in the ones that were damaged
Nice
Thanks Matt!
Bottle digging is one of my favorite things to do. I have always wanted to dig a outhouse privy. I had a thought what if you're pit you were digging was at a sharp angle to prevent the stench like the Roman toilet. Have you ever dug a pit on angle? 🤔
Never heard of that John, but who knows! We have dug some pretty unique pits, but none on an angle.. yet
The soda or beer bottle with the "W' on the base and Newark NJ on the side could be :
Aaron Ward & Son
George Ward
Warwick Tonic Spring
S Weber & Company
George W Wiedemayer
B Wigder Incorporated
William Wirtz
Hey John it ended up being a hutchinson soda bottle. Not sure if we photographed the other piece when we found it, so unsure of the name
I always thought the hobnails and other neck decorations were there for grip making condensation covered milk botts easier to pull from the carrier
Great theory Dave. I'm not really sure honestly. That could be a "bonus" of having them, but I think the initial reason is just to stand out. Not quite sure
Maybe they filled the earlier privy pit and sunken area with later trash
That's exactly what we're thinking!
Almost looks like you have two seperate pits side by side (or the new one cutting into the older) seperated in time by 60 years.
We had wondered that too but it didn't seem to be. We think maybe it was a "step" for the dippers to get in and clean it out. We still have permission on that yard and plan to look for more pits. We will check it out more. The second pit video will be posted in the next couple of weeks or so, but the LIVE can be viewed on our channel now!
Check out that ketchup bottle - cuz Tom in SD pulled out a Heinz ketchup that was #53, 63, or 65 - and tossed it - and the 65 is a scarce ketchup bottle that nothing is known about - and embossing on it has critical information. All 53 and 63 were Heinz Sharpsburg handblown and screw thread lip.
I think that one got tossed back in John. Sorry! I'll try to remember to check them for ya
@@ParlorCityPickersDiggers Just show the "clean" base embossing of the Heinz bots and any Curtice Bros ketchups, or the other food bots. Helps to definitely date range the privvy or dump site as well.
I like to do that one of these days
Get out there! Plenty has yet to have been dug
@@ParlorCityPickersDiggers I'm not physically able to do it
@@dennycarter826 Sorry to hear that Denny.. How come? Maybe if you are ever in our area we could get you in on a dig with us somehow and we can assist in some way?
@@ParlorCityPickersDiggers what part of the country are you located
@@dennycarter826 We are in Binghamton New York
Whiskies - (1894) FULL MEASURE patent trademark by A G Smalley Boston, (1905) WARRANTED patent trademark by A G Smalley Boston - Smalley-made or contracted. So this whiskey (machine made) would be (1905ish-1920). Nobody else making these whiskies, beers, food bots etc with these embossings - on A G Smalley and his glass bottle manufacturing distributorship across the nation.
Nice vid. Any tips on getting permission?
Thanks Drew! Great question. My advice is to just be prepared. I sometimes will bring along an old bottle (literally any "old" looking bottle) to show them the type of stuff we look for. It's never a bad idea to bring some photos or make up a little flyer. Try to come up with a pitch that is short, sweet, and to the point. Try not to make it sound like a sales pitch. Just approach them as a bottle digger who loves saving history and explain how you use tools and research to find the pits. Also be sure to explain that you will do a good job cleaning up the mess and taking precautions to make sure their lawn looks nice afterwards
Pat Mahoney/Cobweb Hall Owego NY Karl Hutter (maker) ID 60716AA-AD. ID 60716AD is the one misspelled with Pat Maloney (which you have here). All 4 are lightining closures.
It's supposed to be Pat MaHoney? Interesting.. I've only seen the MaLoney ones!

Wish I could do Bot Digging, but I'm getting too old and have bad shoulders.
Sorry to hear that Thomas! If you're ever in our area maybe we can make something happen for ya. Til then you can dig vicariously through us anytime you want 😎
Bring a grandson along let them help with the digging?
Why don't you guys run a detector at the bottom of the privy holes?
Not a bad idea. We should. You'll see why we should in one of our upcoming videos... 💰
