Recently did not get recommended for my first IOE line check. Yes I made mistakes but none of them were 2 or 3. One LCA said go ahead and slowdown .5nm before the 180speed restriction at the bridge on SFO approach then the next LCA yelled at me for “deliberately violating atc commands”. Thanks for your videos. They are helpful and inspiring me to keep my head up. I have never failed a checkride or oral exam before so this is pretty difficult pill for me to swallow right now.

I know that is tough. I’m sorry to hear that you weren’t recommended. Keep a solidly positive attitude. LCAs really appreciate that and it goes a long way, especially after disappointment. We are all cheering for you!

Use it to make you better, keep the perspective that they are looking out for you. A Rec ride is always harder than a line check

Hi, my name is Buck. I am a pilot who lives in Wisconsin who owns a small flight school. I am 34 and I am a enormous fan of this podcast. I share with you. Great news. I just interviewed with Skywest Airlines. I looked sharp and was well prepared for the interview because of this podcast, I just got the phone call moments ago that I have been hired as a first officer and I have received my training dates next month and I’m fully ready to drink the Kool-Aid!

Very true!! Nice podcast!!. some pilots are so grumpy and so combative against company culture.. Saw one Captain as we were swapping aircraft, He was so mad that they were :15 mins late waiting for a gate. he ranted to me for :20 mins. at the end of his rant I said. "you will never get that :15 mins back that you waited for a open gate... but now you wasted another :20 talking about it.. enjoy life. live every second..enjoy it." Some things are not controllable..take the good out of it!!

I agree that there are some professions where you can’t just be there for the salary. It’ll lead to burn out.
However I don’t feel that it’s necessary for a person to indoctrinate themselves info company culture either at least to the extent you articulate. I’m sure that there were people who strongly believed in Enron, Lehman Bros, General Electric, Eastern Airlines, and Pan-Am culture and that didn’t save them during bankruptcies, furloughs, and the rank and yank system. When the culture had the leverage, regional pilots were paid minimum wage and FA weren’t paid till the door closed. Now that pilots and FAs have it, these favorable contracts are here.
I believe a person can be happy and or content but they have to remember their “why” and have passion both within and outside the company.

I hear your point. I would also say, whoever you work for, be a beacon for goodness and positivity

Thanks Nik. What a sad person who thinks that it's somehow virtuous to be negative and not getting on board with the shared vision of the company.
