I'm so glad you put it before a fuzz, I've been doing this with choruses and flangers for years. It sounds thicker and gives more motion to your tone, and avoids all the cheesy sounds of modulation after dirt. I suggest this to all of my friends who play shoegaze and while most of them don't even try it, a few have been like "yeah this actually rules."
I had one of these when I was a kid! Cranked the regen knob once in the garage, and that's the only time I've ever had noise complaints from the neighbours. Sorry, Mrs Bowker.
You can still rock any gig with the 9th Gen as your board. Great tones, clean operation, built to last decades of hard use, and they get along with the front end of most tube amps
What are the symptoms of old capacitors in these flangers Lack of sweep and wetness maybe?? I've had a Ibanez FLL since 1985 Just got it out of storage after 30 years it doesn't seem to have the punch that I remember
Wow! Nice and clear demo. I thought this pedal was a door stop from the other demos out there but now that I can actually hear it, I'm tempted to get sometime. Also love the fade-out which you never hear in modern songs today.
I truly think that Ibanez has some of the best modulation pedals. Between this and the cs9 can't go wrong someday I'll try the ps9 and whatever else they have.
I have the Ibanez version from the 80/90s. It’s a pretty underrated unit and it has done very interesting things going on in the circuit. Is far more complex than a Boss BF-2 and clearer sounding.
Or just play guitar a whole lot and come up with your own experiences on guitar Plus who wants to write shit down to tab! But that’s just me I’ve played since let’s see Oh jesus…1990
Wowww never seen this pedal before. It has a very beautiful sounding. What would you prefer between this one and thorphyfx camouflage? Cant wait for the next one for this hidden gem series.
Damn this sounds like early Cure and Ride. Even though its not chorus but it feels like one. But i wonder how it sounds in capable of reamping and put it after the cabinet/impulse response
I have one of these too, and mine have a very pronounced "swoosh" when the pedal is off, a background noise sweeping. Anyone who have a vintage unit did experience this too? I'm also using a cioks schyzophrenic isolated power supply
I'm a bit on the fence about getting one of these, specially the fact that vintage pedals tend to be noisier than pedals made nowadays...do you find this pedal noisy? If so, any modern flanger alternatives that come into mind?
Is there truly any difference between an 80s Maxon and an 80s Ibanez? I want to get one but the Maxon is double the price. Is that just hype or is there a sonic differences between them?
The pedals from the 80s were all made by Maxon. Only difference is the Maxons are true bypass while Ibanez are buffered. Both PCBAs are silkscreened with Maxon. Ibanez didn't actually make anything, just put their name on. The reissues do have Ibanez on the PCBA, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were made by Maxon still. I have an original and a reissue. Awesome flanger.

same.. this is exactly how and why I put my bf-2 between comp and fuzz
I understand only Eichelkäse
Finally some decent demo of FL-9

3:44 love this sound
Neat! I have one of these. The entire 9-series are cool pedals, it’s not only the TS9 that is great.

YEEESZZZZ I have this pedal, had to get the caps redone but it's just so musical. I don't generally like phaser but I love this one!

Better Flanger than we deserve

They do and of course the Tube Screamer is a classic overdrive pedal too; pairs excellently with the CS-9.
this sound awesome! makes me think of kitchens of distinction leads.
have you come across any modern flangers that are worth checking out as well?

I love this pedal! I got mine for $80 at a pawn shop and it sounds soooo nice
I have the ibanez version. My fav pedal so far.
I would pay for tabs from these sound studies! ;)
Or just play guitar a whole lot and come up with your own experiences on guitar
Plus who wants to write shit down to tab!
But that’s just me
I’ve played since let’s see

Fun fact, the classic Cure chorus sound is actually a flanger!
Yes cure where using eh electric mistress

Yeah, it should not be doing that. Mine is completely silent when disengaged
Tomorrow will come one mine but ibanez same model. Waiting it so much... How do you think, will it be difference? ThanX

I would like to know too

You might want a digital flanger then.
once in a while thats what its for

Do they do that annoying thing where it only turns off when you *release* the footswitch? Thanks
