After 14 years, I think I know every inch of that place. It was great seeing it through your eyes.
Sister where is this beautiful place?

Amazing location and amazing images. I particularly enjoy how you're now showing the view through the camera as you search for compositions. It very clearly illustrates (and reminds us) that small changes in position-left, right, up, down-can have substantial impact on the image.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed that! :)
Can I just say, I really appreciate the choice in music for this vlog. Absolutely perfect 👌
You’ve done it again! Your abstracts are amazing. I’m flabbergasted. I’ve been to Utah/southwest six times now and every trip, every day, I feel the same way as what you describe here. I hope you return for many more enchanting sessions. Your videos are the most enjoyable of all the bloggers I follow. Thanks for that.
Fabulous photos, as always, Michael! Where is this amazing place? You just identify it as being in the American Southwest.
You can see things you can’t photograph, and photograph things you can’t see.
First of all. Amazing mustache.
Second. Very well said.
OH MY GOD thats does NOT look like Earth.... please share that location i will never be able to visit but at least i can look it up... wow
Looks like you were at White Pocket, AZ. It's kind of like the Wave, but with a lot of white rocks and no lottery.
Hi Michael, this is the first time that I have found you're channel and I am amazed by it. I have a small (growing) channel myself but this is next level. Would love to grt to that location someday. At 8:56 in the video there is a small lake on tip of these white rocks did you get a shot of that with the drone? Looks fantastic. You definitely have a new subscriber. Do you mind sharing where this is? I would thibk valley of fire but since I'm from the netherlands I don't know all the spots of course. Grt guido
Love your soundtrack. Check AES Dana & Carbon Based Lifeforms
Ken Rockwell had one of the best pages on photography that I’ve ever seen. He had an acronym F. A. R. T. The F stands for feel. So when you’re walking past some thing, you feel something the A stands for analyze what is it about this scene that caught your attention The R stands for refined the composition kind of like what you said. the T is when you take the image. So whenever I’m out taking pictures, I’m always thinking about farts.
This is a beautiful location and amazing photos!! I know you said you’re in the southwest but where are you exactly?
Amazing content Michael.. did you use a CPL filter for those photos?
Been down South West snd sleays skipped that location simply because its tricky to get to, guess third time I just have to.
You missed what could have been some amazing images of the vegetation growing out of the beautiful rocks area at 5:00 minutes? Great video, beautiful shots.... thanks!
Yo, 24p is awful on youtube because most screens refresh at multiples of 30. There are jitters every couple of frames unless I manually tweak the speed to 1.25x :(
Hi Michael, I am going to Las Vegas / Death Valley in upcoming week and was looking into many of your videos. What location is this where you are able to drone? As a national park, Death Valley doesnt allow to drone without permission
I'm curious where you flew your drone... spectacular
Wow! I’m sure glad I don’t have to cull your images!
Your photos were fine the only thing missing was...... SUN!!!! I saw it was an overcast day. Go back and takes those same photos early in the morning and late in the afternoon and see the difference. I did like the one with the dark clouds. Was that done with two separate photos or was it done in Photoshop.
Best abstracts you've captured so far. Absolutely stunning!
I might have missed it, but where is this place? Looks like Valley of Fire State Park. It would be nice to identify the location for your viewers.
I want to start photographing landscapes and specialize in lunar photos and maybe over time astrophotography which camera would be good to start with? thanks
At 3:44, the shape of the rock on your right shoulder looks like a face of a monkey. Very interesting!
stunning, as always Michael! where in Arizona was this? was it White Pocket?
I really like that point that you made at the end of the video. Great stuff!
What is your location ? I love this landscape I need to put this on my bucket list 😊
Great video and a stunning location Michael. Where exactly is it?
What camera and lens you have used to record this vlog? pl tell me!
I started using a wide angle, 11-18 on a crop sensor, and I'm really enjoying it. I can get whole buildings in my pictures, and it works pretty well for people and other things. Your drone images were amazing, I hope I can learn to do that someday.
I like this video, clear and useful
How do you make money with those photographs?
Wow super spectacular shots. A real work of art Michael. 🤩🤩🤩
What music are you using in this point: 9:00?
Mac wallpaper was taken at this place , I seem
I believe the location of this photoshoot is kept top secret by the National Park Service. Access is only by lottery to reduce erosion and damage to the delicate rock formations. It is within the Grand Staircase Escalante. It is almost impossible to take a bad landscape photograph here.
Idk. I could probably mess up a picture pretty bad lol
wow so cool love this place n ur pics
Hi Michael. Not sure that I've commented before but I've definitely watched and enjoyed many of your videos (and paid courses). I just wanted to say thank you for what you share and the way you share it. It always comes from a positive place. I always enjoy your happy (and mostly relaxing) views of wherever you are. Always a joy to watch - thank you
Thank you so much for watching and for this comment Sam! :)
Where are you? Is that Joshua Tree?
Thanks!
Thank you so much Mark!
Love your images and videp
@@markromoff7097 Thank you Mark, that means a lot. I love making these videos and am honored that folks like yourself enjoy them! :)
Why do you shoot Iso 500? It is not necessary to have a fast shutter speed in wide angle... 1/30 would be enought. At F16 You start too lose detail because of diffraction. I really don't understand your settings.
ISO500 is the second base ISO of the A1 and is negligible compared to 100. 1/30 has the potential to be blurry, especially when moving around handheld. F16 diffraction is again negligible in terms of sharpness loss and almost indistinguishable from using a lower F-stop. F16 allowed me to get a lot more of the scene in focus than using something like F8.
If you chat with more professional photographers, you will realize that all these little rules and statistics you read in photobooks do not translate to real, practical shooting. Yes, occasionally, you can use the Idealistic "F8 ISO100." Sure, but not in most cases. We use the settings we feel will best capture the scene, and it's all dependent on the situation. All of the images in the video are sharp, in focus, and clean, regardless.
@@MichaelShainblum thanks for taking the time to answering me.
Such beauty…speechless
Where is this and great pics
Dang you Michael I just bought the 16-35 and 28-200 based on your glowing reviews of them =) I used your links of course!
Would loooove to visit this place! thank you for sharing Michael! :) Beautiful shots!
Very beautiful landscapes with so many thing to learn, thanks for explaining each shot.
Ohhhhh white pocket is gorgeous!!! So alien yet mesmerizing! I was lucky enough to be there right after a storm so I got some shots with pools of water in those amazing little divots and crevices. That tree in the middle of rock was stunning. We were also there while a storm came rumbling in. I captured a shot with the bright beautiful sun on the left of one of those peaks with the storm coming in from the right. I got the shot and then got dumped on. But it was totally worth it!!
Your voice and videos have a 'mellow-ness' to them that makes them special! My widest prime is a 21mm...should I pick up a 14mm before heading there? We'll be visiting in October so I have some time. Thanks again for sharing your time with us.
Astounding work! I lived less than 2 hours from there and hiked, & photographed AZ for 18 years. But that was back in the '70s. I never knew it existed until now. Thank you for a mental kick to the backside.
Great video and advice on looking for abstract subjects.
Thanks!
10:10 Jaw hits floor
Amazing compositions, lucky be in that place limitless possibilities, thanks for sharing your stories and passion for photography!
Not my mother’s granite countertop after all. Imagine that. 🤓
Beautifully done, as usual.
That's it! Your wonderful video pushed me over the edge. I'm getting a drone! I've photographer this location 6 times in the last four years and am going back again in September. Your drone shots were spectacular! Thanks for sharing your thought process and the resulting photos.
I'm not exactly a geology nerd. But, rock formations like these always leave me in wonder of the forces of nature that created them over countless millennia. I love natural abstract images.
"Wow, that is really cool! That part, less cool." That's a great approach for getting original images. I don't think you said exactly where you shot this, which is fine for protecting it. But it looks like that park outside Las Vegas where the F4 Gang all did some shooting a few years ago.
Magnificent!
Wow !!! That's one of the best videos I've ever seen. I just love that type of landscape. Endless possibilities !!!!!
Great video, Michael. It like the reminder to look at the world around us differently. To see something else. I agree with you, I'm not super technical with photography either. I would rather focus on the picture taking rather than the technicalities which just kills my creativity. Thanks for the reminder. To each to their own. Folks should just do what works for them. There is no one right way to photograph.
Wow! What an amazing location. Thoroughly enjoyed this. You got some awesome photos there.
What an incredible location, fail to see how you could come away without a few keepers. Love the last portrait with the sole tree. It’s like what on Earth are you doing there ? quick check that we are on Earth 🤔👌
These abstracts are insane! You don't even know if these are aerial shots or close ups from the ground! :D In July/August I will be the first time in my life in the US and I'm sooo excited about it... 4 weeks in the soutwest! :D
I follow you on Instagram and just found this UA-cam channel. I am so happy to learn how you compose and take images! Thanks for sharing and teaching. You are an amazing photographer!
These photographs are amazing, specially the one with the drone.enjoy..
I've been there once, and it blew me away. Definitely have to go again. Thanks for sharing. Your work is inspiring and beautiful.
dude, it's one of the best youtube lessons on photography I've ever seen. And it's mostly because of the pace you have here, the atmosphere, the music, the attitude. I can feel how you love photography and how you love to tell your story about it and how amazed you are by it.
I subscribed.
Your photography is amazing and your tutorials are so helpful and interesting.
Wow wow wow ! these shots are mind blowing ! Yes to me the " rules " are to be a guide, sometimes, but you still need to think outside the square and take in what you see as in, varying patterns and textures, after following your Videos for some time I am learning to stop and look, and it can very satisfying as what you capture once loaded on to the computer ! Cheers and very well captured, from NZ
I am in awe of your photos in this video. So much vivid abstract scenery. Wonderful, well done.
Composition is the thing I struggle the most. I really loved this vlog. Congratulations
Gorgeous video and imagery Michael! Makes me want to get a drone!
Astonishing shots here Michael. Looks like at or near White Pocket, AZ. I was fortunate to get my own pics there. Extremely difficult place to get out to. I used a tour guide & fortunately this allowed me to just concentrate on my shooting & not worry about getting stuck in the sand in the drive. I agree it was so very hard not to be overwhelmed by this jaw dropping area.
😍😍😍
Geology continues to amaze, definitely an otherworldly feel Michael.
Compare some of the drone footage to the clouds of Jupiter.
Thanks for sharing again.
Stay safe 🇦🇺
Fantastic, Michael!
Thanks..
❤❤❤太漂亮了
So true.
It's a great video Michael! Love all these photos that you took! They are fantastic!!!
Incredible place, wonderful photos!
You captured some really awesome photos there. The lighter formations have a bio-mechanical look
Amazing images and great thought process regarding composition. Thanks Michael.
love it
Thank you for taking me to the Mars😊, stunning pics
I spent 2 days here 2 weeks ago and you put it into a different perspective! I wanna go back now haha
Great videl Michael! Loved the approach.
Do we need permits to visit this area?
What a beautiful location and your words are truely inspiring
What a superb location, and the images you showed from it were - as always - beautiful and at times breathtaking. I never tire of seeing your work - it always makes me want to get out and take more photos. And thanks for the tip at the end.
Super cool area... So many great textures and structures. As much as I like the drone shots, i like the wide angle shots the most. They give the already very surreal terrain a whole more of it to the image. Love it. Thanks for sharing this stunning place.
Incredible images! This is the perfect location for wide angle shooting. The swirling textured everywhere you look are perfect for exaggerating into some awesome compositions. Well done!
The definitive "alien landscape". Anyone else think parts of the scene look like a giant brain?
So so awesome. You absolutely used that great sky to the fullest and your abstracts were beautiful. Did you head out there in the Forester?
Terrific video! The images from the drone remind me of your lava/volcano images
I loved the highlights on the rocks against the blue sky. And that lone tree at the end was epic minimalistic. Nice mixture of abstract and landscape.
The wide-angle shots are amazing as usual but the drone shots are better than amazing, they are exceptional, they are the perfect 10.
As always, very inspiring video and your photos are amazing!
Your last two vlogs have been awesome Michael. Crazy landscapes combined with great tips, insight, and wonderful sound tracks that mathced up well with the vibe of the places you visited.
As always, stunning, beautiful, amazing and any orher words for WOW! Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Great video. Thanks for creating and sharing.
