@2:38 - After the Umpire got hit in the balls with the baseball the Commentator's comment of "Two balls & one strike" had me in fits of laughter **shrug* :-)
People who've never played ball before have no idea how painful it is even when our armor blocks the hit. I had one of the best catcher's masks and when I got beamed it felt like getting smacked by Hercules....and thank God for the cup...even then, it feels like hell when hit.
@@cjr1881 Clearly you haven't done shit. If you had, you wouldn't have wrote something this stupid. Watch videos of catchers and umpires getting struck squarely in the mask. Most have to take a few seconds to gather themselves. Obviously you've never been in that position.
At my school we don't have any equipment for the homeplate umpire and only little equipment for the catcher (old facemask and old chest protector). I've been an umpire for quit some time and I can tell you it hurts a lot when you get hit.
Que want when you going when you going most baseball estoy going you could when you going when you going out this going when you going happy 😁 you going when you going
Awesome video. As a former umpire, I can tell you that getting hit with a baseball is a horrible feeling. I've taken balls to most of the main spots on the human body and they STING like a MOFO. Keep up the good work on the videos.
When an Umpire leaves, where do the two Umpires position themselves? Because I do know home plate will always have an Umpire behind it. I'm guessing 1st and 3rd base, correct?
Its kinda complicated. With no one on then yes first and third. With runners on base you have one umpire behind the mound and the other umpire at their base, and it changes based on where the runners are. For example, with a runner on first, the first base umpire stays at first and the third base umpire moves in. Theres a lot more to it but it gives you a basic idea

I'm a pretty avid baseball fan, but I don't think I've ever seen a pitch that didn't even hit the dirt. He was confused apparently, thinking he was playing cricket. :-O
I know we all joke about taking a fastball to the nuts, but my God, I would never wish a 90-MPH baseball to one of the most sensitive part of a man's body. 😥
I lost all respect for Buster Posey when he deliberately ignored the ump behind him on the ground. There will be more chances, pitches, at bat, games. But when another human being is hurt on the ground, be a decent human being and make sure their okay.
Fuck off, if someone gets hurt in the outfield it's a guaranteed triple or inside the park home run. There's no you're hurt so we'll stop playing bullshit. Shit gets sorted when time gets called.
2:04 I love how the catcher didn’t go and see if he was okay like I see why you need to see where the ball is but I would be more worried ab the umpire
I think it was intentional. High pitch and Posey let it go, then they're laughing and fist bumping in the dugout after he leaves the game. Dick move but they probably didn't like his calls
To those people who complain when an official gets in the way of a player, no matter if its the NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, whatever, as far as I know, the umpire is considered part of the field.
I like to imagine whenever a player or coach runs to the aid of an ump, they whisper "That's right bitch, now you best be calling in our favor or else you gonna eat another one"
If they used the old shields, like in the old days, most of those behind the plate injuries would be nothing. Oh, and the strike zone would be much better, IMO.
The balloon protector is really nice on hot days, as that body armor gets hot as hell. But you're looking over the top of it, so your strike zone tends to be higher, and it gets in the way when you have to make other calls (a safe call with that thing in your left hand and your mask in your right looks ridiculous).
@@eauhomme I don't think a safe call looks ridiculous. I think it looks awesome!!! And a higher strike zone is exactly what is needed. Most of the bad strike calls are way below the knees. And lots of what are called bad high strikes are right around the letters, where the strike zone is supposed to be.
well if we are to limit a catchers ability to block home plate why not forbid really fast pitching?? after all if SAFETY is the issue?? we must consider the umps safety!! nothing over 80 mph??
I was sad to see dale scott retire he was a good ump one of my favorites.
Mine too. I met him at Camden Yards last year during Pride Night.
I know I’m late but yeah I agree. Jim Wolf and Jensen Visconti are probably the best of the best now
@2:38 - After the Umpire got hit in the balls with the baseball the Commentator's comment of "Two balls & one strike" had me in fits of laughter **shrug* :-)
More like one strike on two balls
It hit him in the chest
I've never understood why the umps don't wear a helmet like the catchers do...
They are too clumsy
Helmets would fall off their heads
They want a chance to sue and get disability.
I need an "Angel Hernandez Getting Hurt" video

You haven't done shit. Doesn't hurt in the head. One place that does not hurt at all. Or the shin. Don't feel a thing.

Is it just me or does it seem like the catchers care more about the umps then the batters?
If an umpire takes a fastball to the groin, does he call strike or balls?
You’re horrid, but THAT was funny!😂
I don’t know, but I’ll beat he does it in a high pitched voice
Ha ha he he ho ho.
Couldn’t the plate umpire have a shield of some sort? I would be curious to see what experiments are done to improve protection.
Nic Flatterie they already have basically a baseball proof vest underneath their shirt

You have taken balls to all the main spots of your body? Lol strange way to word it.
Padding and masks are to help prevent SERIOUS injuries.
I'm sure people who have been the catcher could relate.
2:10 ump is face down in the dirt and only the batter seems worried/shocked
Surprising that Posey didn’t even look back at the ump who was on the ground. More concerned with where the ball was.
When an Umpire leaves, where do the two Umpires position themselves? Because I do know home plate will always have an Umpire behind it. I'm guessing 1st and 3rd base, correct?

13:25 - Wow, we might have found the solution to speeding up the game after all! And it's so simple too!
If I was a gentleMAN-umpire, mon ami, & prized my gonads, I would certainly employ one of these earlier chest-protectors:

6:25 made me cringe the worst. I broke my wrist from almost an identical situation.
I'm a pretty avid baseball fan, but I don't think I've ever seen a pitch that didn't even hit the dirt. He was confused apparently, thinking he was playing cricket. :-O
I've seen one hit the front edge of the mound.
Looked like an NFL receiver spiking the ball after a touchdown.
I know we all joke about taking a fastball to the nuts, but my God, I would never wish a 90-MPH baseball to one of the most sensitive part of a man's body. 😥
A friend of mine had his cup shattered by a pitch. He left the field on a stretcher and had to have surgery.
I lost all respect for Buster Posey when he deliberately ignored the ump behind him on the ground. There will be more chances, pitches, at bat, games. But when another human being is hurt on the ground, be a decent human being and make sure their okay.
Seen someone on here talking about that. Said that thought it was an intentional hit

Buster Posey showing a lot of concern.
Yeah. That was so apathetic of him. Nobody even went to go check on a man who had just collapsed. That was nuts..
Catcher misses the catch and then walks away. Jerks
man, those poor umpires, their going to need a football type helmet eventually. oh and a steel cup.
4:28 I was at this game. Game was delayed for probably 30 minutes.
For home plate they're crazy giving up those huge cushions. Fit both arms & balls back there
Porque el 90% de estos árbitros son viejos y gordos??

Watching this video makes me realize Jerry Lane should have retired after this season. Damn.

That one umpire sure does get hurt a lot. Maybe he shouldn't be behind the plate anymore.
What happened with Vogt at 3:02, did he have something fly into his eye as the pitch was coming?
Elliott Avant He got crossed up thinking it was a pitchout!
"...and Arenado's ejected for taking a walk in game 162." XD
@7:44 is why you keep the arms tucked.
Ouch.
It was his third time too😳😣
10:40 did not seem to phased about getting hit in the face.
So what ever happened to the big protective pads they used to use? Might not protect the face area but the rest of the body..
The balloon protector was phased out many years ago.
I think they need extra umps at some games, not all but some, ESPECIALLY the play off games.
Playoff games have 6 umps anyways
They have gear similar to catchers, how do they get hit so hard
That very first clip would have pissed me off as a base runner. He should have gotten 3rd base for interference.
No such thing as umpire’s interference on a play like that.
This is a major reason why I wear the hockey style masks.

its a sad day when injuries on baseball is MORE entertaining than the game itself LOL
Never seen an umpire try to called
a strike without a batter,
Batter up Umpire Down.
I swear Kerwin Danley is a foul ball and passed ball magnet. He gets hit a LOT.
