    I believe the 40mm should be a better fit for me, I would love SanMartin to issue an aged steel case of this watch in 40mm

    Interesting mix of 2 styles with this one a pilot sized trench watch. Rules are there to be broken 😁 I'm sure there'll be those that get all historically upset by it haha but I think it's pretty cool. 👍👍

    Excellent review Simon, yes the big onion style (sort of) crown is harking back to WW German pilot watches, looks a bit like a trench watch in some aspects too. Just back from the Irish bar in İstanbul having watched Ireland beat the All Blacks and England beating the Australians, so I might be looking at this watch with some beer goggles. Lol!

      @@WatchtheTime Thank you for the informative review. I also want to buy pilots in the collection, and not just, but in bronze. But one nuance is confusing, the crown is screwed in bronze, the watch too. As you know, bronze is a soft metal, and therefore the question is, is the threaded connection made of bronze or are steel elements present there?
      I would appreciate it if you would take the time to answer my question. With respect.

    • @WatchtheTime
      @WatchtheTime  Рік тому +2

      Hi Simon and I appreciate your question. My understanding is that the crown stem and thread are made up of steel, so cross threading shouldn’t be a problem - I hope that helps mate 👍👍

      @Simon-fw7dp Рік тому +1

      @@WatchtheTime The winding shaft, of course, is steel, because it is part of the mechanism. But the thread in the crown and on the case of the watch is a completely different matter.

    It’s a belter, but my only hesitation is that you can pick up a Stowa flight watch for maybe twice the price and have a genuine pilots watch on your wrist. That’s definitely a sweetcorn crown… It’s good to see they’ve settled on branding, my first SM arrived a week ago, so review over the next 4 weeks

    It's a beautiful looking watch. It appears to be a homage of the Zenith Pilot Type 20 which comes in at 45mm as well, but I'm baffled by the crown. It it is plastic, that finish will wear off in no time and the watch will look trash. They put so much effort into replicating that vintage look and bottled it with the crown. I'm sure they had their reasons. Probably unavailable or too expensive to make. It's a shame Great review as always Simon!

    • @WatchtheTime
      @WatchtheTime  2 роки тому +2

      Ah thank you for the info and it most certainly bares a striking resemblance to that Zenith, great shout. The crown is a real let down especially with the rest of the watch being so well made. Thanks for watching my man 👍👍

      @@WatchtheTime No worries. I liked the review. I bought that piece a couple of months ago and it's everything you described. I have a eight and a quarter inch wrist (bigger on warm days) so it's the perfect size for me. The way I could tell the crown was metal was that it is cold to the touch when you pick it up. Also, I put a multimeter on it and it has quite a low resistance. While this does not mean there is not a metallic coating on it, that and the coolness of its feel tells me it is at least solid metal. I would be very surprised if it isn't bronze as well as San Martin seem to want to establish themselves as a quality brand and I doubt they would want to be caught doing a plastic crown.

    Beautiful watch for sure, but way too big for me to pull off. I'll take a look at the 40mm. I'm sure that will be more in line for my wrist. I love the look of bronze cases. I have an Oris Diver's 65 with a bronze bezel, and it's patina is really coming along nicely!

      @@WatchtheTime I'll take a pic when I can and DM it to you on there. It's still shiny, but the coloring is a lot deeper than it used to be. I don't know what type of bronze they used, but I have a feeling it's the aluminum mixed that doesn't get the crazy green patina over time.

    • @WatchtheTime
      @WatchtheTime  7 місяців тому +2

      Firstly, you need to turn the crown towards you to unscrew it, once done and the crown is loose, turn the crown either way where you feel a winding motion and a slight bit of resentment, that is you now charging the watch. I hope that helps my friend 👍👍

    Beautiful! I reviewed the STEELDIVE version of this Zenith homage and this looks like an overall better build. I prefer the orange handset on the SD though. But this leather strap is WAAAAY better! Weird that it comes in at 23mm. SD started using NH38, so no ghost position. If you’re keeping this one, are you going to let it patina, or keep it shiny?

    Great review of a very attractive watch, a cross between a pilot/marine/trench style, and a
    fraction of the price of an "authentic" Swiss or German version. I like the clean simplicity, without superfluous complications, showing off the period font and cathedral hands.
