- The subject of today's video is the history of Sony, founded by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita. From the rice cooker, the popular Betamax and the famous Walkman, to the most popular video game console, the Playstation, Sony has managed to prove that it is still an important company, even after 76 years since its establishment.

The walkman and the handycam were revolutionary world changing products. That's how I came to learn of Sony and love them.
I just saw a book that came out in the late 80’s called “Made in Japan” written by the founder
I also read somewhere that Steve Jobs wanted to follow the business concept and design of Sony and Issey Miyake when starting Apple Computers. The signature black turtle neck Job always wore and had many of the same, was designed by Issey Miyake. I bought my first paint pair of Issey Miyake pants when the Macys in SF first started to carry in 1982. They cost $175. That was a lot of money and I was only 18. Not many knew about Issey Miyake and I doubt even jobs knew about until his Apple company started to do well in the early 90’s I never saw anyone else with those pants and I think Macys only carried like 2 of each size or even one to try out newer brand.

When I was younger, about 17 to 11 years ago I used to enjoy playing on Playstation 2.
Note: Playstation 3 had come out by this time too.
Also back then, I remember having a Sony TV.

Just 1 side note on a great video. SONY in the early 90s opened and operated movie theaters in the US. I worked for them in NYC and the main issues were they were trying to dominate the digital sound technology war at time..what sound system theaters used was all the rage and advertisered.
Technology like George Lucas's THX, Dolby Digital etc. SONY has something called SDDS, Sony dynamic digital sound a CD encased in a plastic case that had the movie sound on it.
Traditionally, sound for a movie was read directly off the film. On the outside edge of the frame. What looks like 2 record groves and a light is used to read those tracks. After many shows the sound would degrade because the projector sprockets would rub on that part of the film and scratcheasily. Sony had a great product. They could make a truck load of money off it from the professional and home market.
The problem was that the home office in Japan never liked putting the Sony name on a threatre when the product being shown wasn't always using the Sony technology. Film production became expensive because they were licensing half a dozen different companies to have whatever the public considered the premium sound experience at that moment.
The projectors and speakers weren't always Sony products, the home office in Japan hates this. Forces the sale and name change within a year or two.
Remember all the sound ads before a movie, the THX trailer..the Sony trailer..They're on YT!

I recently watched a history of Sony that focused on the transistor radio. I cant help feel that Jobs drew inspiration from them. Sony execs even wore dress shirts with over-sized pockets to make it look like it fit in their pockets.
Yeah! They are doing pretty well in thier video games department. The Playstation 4 and 5 are really dope.

I think Sony is a good company, the only thing Sony can't do is phones, but with the Playstation Sony just did something right see PS5 the part is a monster and the power it has is awesome 4K 120hz a console doesn't get any better
That's right, they did a great job with PlayStation, but let's not forget the photo and video cameras.
They can't do Playstations. Playstation 3 was the last good consol, PS4 and PS5 are shit.

@@benedictvorwerg9621 Ja nachdem ich auf meiner PS4 vor 2 Jahren 3 mal das betriebssystem neu draufspielen konnte (Systemspeicherstatus defekt), habe ich meine liebe zu Sony insbesondere der PS verloren. Hatte die PS2 , 3 und 4.
Inzwischen hab ich einen Gaming PC und würde den nicht mehr hergeben wollen.
@@franklindrebin00 ein gaming PC hat natürlich viel mehr Leistung und man kann ihn sich so Zusammenstellen wie man mag aber Sony hat mit der PS5 einfach top Arbeit geleistet

I looove sony ever since my walkman I’ve stayed pretty loyal to them if there’s a sony version of of an electronic it’s almost a guarantee Ill choose it over any other brand. only thing I never cared for that they made were their phones they were always just short of others like samsung or iPhones (my phone of choice) but i do hope they make it there someday

@SonyEnthusiast honestly they over charge more than their competitors the specs are shy of samsunngs s specs for the money and not to mention my carrier doesn't even sell them so that's a deal Breaker I'd probably try em at the very least if my carrier even sold them but I haven't seen a Sony phone in a carrier store in a looong time like I think iphone 4s times which is disappointing
@@Angelcain0666 I agree with you on the carrier, but not with the specs, even basic features not found in other phones: sd card slot, headphone jack, 4K OLED, no bloatware/ads, etc. I'm in the US unlocked on T-Mobile, but sadly Xperia left my country this year so the new Xperia 1 VI won't be sold here. I'm sticking with my trusty XZ Premium 👍. What country are you from?
@SonyEnthusiast SD card and headphone Jack's don't really matter to me cause the storage is more than enough and my headphones are Bluetooth anyway and I didn't have any bloatware on mine or ads besides what the apps already have. USA as well and I have Verizon and I've tried to call a few stores before my latest upgrade and they all said they haven't sold Sony in years so I'm wondering if it's just not carried by Verizon at all but it's the only carrier I can get service for my area

No wonder why Sony has some of the weirdest product names (ie. Headset: WH100XM??? lol) . Their history is all weird name products lol
Back then, Sony products had creative and awesome names. Walkman, Bravia, Trinitron, Cyber-shot, VAIO, Handycam, Playstation of course, and so on. Currently their naming is not so good (just random letters and numbers). Thankfully Walkman and Playstation are still around.
Nintendo sucks but sega and Sony is a success
