The Methodist version is just beautiful. I’m a Methodist myself, and I really wish they still played it at church. Now, they usually play it during funerals while people enter the room. Thank you for this.
Everytime I listen to this song, I have a vision of running to the stern, yelling, and all panic. It really hurts inside. My great great Grandpa was a luggage man. He would bring all the suitcases and load the on. He was not on the ship when the Titanic took the New York route. R.I.P All people that died on that cold, dreadful night.
I was raised with the Bethany version of this hymn, but I think I like the Propior Deo version best. There's something very evocative and touching about it that's missing from the other two.
1 Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee; E’en though it be a cross That raiseth me, Still all my song shall be Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee. 2 Though, like a wanderer, The sun gone down, Darkness comes over me, My rest a stone; Yet in my dreams I’d be Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee. 3 There let me see the sight, An open heaven; All that Thou sendest me, In mercy given; Angels to beckon me Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee. 4 Then, with my waking thoughts Bright with Thy praise, Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise, So by my woes to be Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer to Thee.
I don't know why "Horbury" version connects me more with the Titanic and its like a feeling they actuallt played the "Horbury" version. Well, it's just a feeling. Lately it's believed the orchestra played the "Propior Deo". But at the end, we will never know for sure. At least they could have asked the eye witnesses which version they remembered😛😁
This was likely the real version actually played by the band that night, just based on the many testimonies, and this is the version that makes the most sense. I don’t doubt that songe d’automne was played too, but I do think that this was the final song of the night.
Rest In peace Bandmaster Wallace H. Hartley... Your final song will always be remembered In my heart... I always play the song every year... On April 15th... If no one else I will honor you and remember you with my tribute of the song I play It for you and for everyone on the ship when she sank... 😢💔 for sure one of my favorite songs...
Yeah this is the version the real band on the titanic played , as one of the survivors heard it in church years later and ran out in horror as she didn’t want to hear the song that brought back bad memories
@@mathewdee1632 During the song, the band started singing with the song, some of the passengers that were passing by sang along with the hymn as the ship went down. Along with the screaming and panic of the passengers. This was played before the first funnel fell. It was so sad.
And this is eternal life: that they may know the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3 So those who gladly received his word were baptized; and on that day nearly three thousand souls were added. Atos 2:41

Hi
I do areee
Would you please send me these famous music notes that are playing now???
I prefer to die like a gentlemen🎩
This is not what the Methodist version would sound like if it was actually played on real violins
Your grandpa was cool
I agree I believe this version really emphasizes the sadness in that moment with chaos all around and hope lost!
He was fortunate not to go on board, glad he was, because you're here because of it; cherish that thought, please
“Gentlemen, it has been a privilege playing with you tonight.”
I like this version and I would say Wallace Hartley and his musicians have played this version!
I was raised with the Bethany version of this hymn, but I think I like the Propior Deo version best. There's something very evocative and touching about it that's missing from the other two.
same
I agree with you on this
I have been looking for this song for ages
1
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee;
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
2
Though, like a wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
3
There let me see the sight,
An open heaven;
All that Thou sendest me,
In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.
4
Then, with my waking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise,
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.

“Well they don’t listen to us at dinner either”
The best version I have listened. Thanks❤

Read George Behe’s book “Those Brave Fellows” it’s the best work ever done about Titanic’s band.
I love this music
I was looking for this recording.

It has now been 111 years since the Titanic sunk

FINALLY I FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Play at 1.25x speed for 1997 film speed.
This is the one played on the Titanic if Nearer my God to Thee was played on it, not the one from the movie.
@Edwyn Deer The one from A Night To Remember is the Anglican version.
@@OBrasilo horbury
@Edwyn Deer no, Propior Deo is a British version, Bethany is the American version.
@Edwyn Deer oh
@@HugoGHA horbury is the British version too
Someone should splice this with the scene from the movie.
someone did
Nah queda mejor la de la pelicula del 97 es un poco mejor pero esta tambien me gusta

This is better than the version played at Titanic
this *is* the version played on the Titanic.

Very nice. I would have loved the sheet music for this. Who is the artist please?
This song is over 100+ years old, good luck finding the artist 😂
This is the propior deo version of Nearer My God to thee, and it's artist was Arthur Sullivan.
*it’s your lucky day*
@@crispywater681 I'M THE FUCKING SALVATION 😂😂
If your looking for the original version, it's artist is Sarah Flower Adams
propior deo version.

Plot twist, Wallace actually played the bethany version
But Mr Hartley grew at Methodist Church and probably knew this version better.
Antonio Salieri you’ve probably never heard of a bad joke
@Antonio Salieri woosh
r/wooooosh
pls
Titanic sinking is never my God to thee band from the Titanic
1.5x speed = roblox modern titanic sinking
the roblox verison is a bit different
If this hymn was played on real string instruments it would sound nothing like this
imo the methodist version is better
yep
And probably the one played that night
Osama bin laden behind this last night bush told trump
the music is wrong
This would've been the version played on board the Titanic, as the band leader, Wallace Hartley was a Methodist
Agreed, Wallace was Methodist and would most likely known this version of Nearer my God to thee
No it's not
No, it's the song on the film that was wrong.
the music is right. The band leader was a methodist. The music in the 1997 was not the the one they actually played in rl.
