Yes, and because it has only 2 rows it is less practical than an SUV with 3 rows. The DougScore is not weighted depending on a vehicle's class, price, advertised market position, etc. Every car is ranked on the same scale. This is why, for example, most 2-seater sports cars Doug reviews get a "1" or "2" in Practicality. That's just how his scoring system works.
Definitely depends on HOW you define practicality. Three row SUV’s loose a lot of cargo space. If you don’t need that third row for people, practicality would suggest that maybe you’d like a larger suv without a third row so that you’d have more cargo space.

The temperature thing is calibration in real life temperature. I wish my truck had it because it seems to always be off by a degree or so with the actual temp.
The A in that oil life is Honda’s way telling customers what will be their maintenance program when the car needs maintenance. In this case “A” means just an oil change and “B” means the car needs an oil change and a tire rotation. My moms 2012 civic has the same thing.
Here is a chart and link to website describing the different maintenance sub-symbols that Honda uses. They actually change by location as well, I am in Canada and "B" is a brake service. www.rensselaerhonda.com/honda-maintenance-minder-codes/
A means oil change without filter. B means oil and filter change. 1 is tire rotate. 2 is filters. 3 is trans service. 4 is timing belt. 5 is spark plugs and valve adjust. 6 is rear diff service on awd models. 7 is brake flush. Now you know
3:05 That's actually fantastic, you can account for little variations in their temperature probes, also account for things like very hot pavement (the temp sensors are usually located near the ground)
@@FayezButts if you're really really anal about precise numbers and want total precision (Honda engineers, I'm looking at you) when parts age and settle in there's always a little drift and imprecision that creeps into any measurement device such as medical devices, micrometers, volt meters etc which is why they have periodic calibration to make sure they are giving correct values. Admittedly in a car temperature guage it is a bit of overkill.
Chris Persons The "A" is actually for an oil change. A "B" would be for oil and filter change. 1 - Tire rotation, 2 - Check filters and belts, 3 - Trans fluid and so on. I work in Honda service, if y'all have any questions feel free to ask!

Having had a Passport for over 2 years now, I can confidently say it's a much more enjoyable vehicle than this review makes it look. I find it quite fun to drive, especially with the i-VTM4 AWD system. It adds a rwd feel that I don't get in most AWD vehicles. Easily the easiest car to drive in winter I've ever had.. it just goes and usually without almost no slippage in snow. A step up from the 2013 Outback I had. And there's so much subtle practicality about it. The dash is so flat and huge. I've easily set up my company laptop and a portable monitor AND still had room for a plate with lunch on it.. all on the dash. The wide open flat center console space is great too and offsets any negatives of the minivan style armrests. It has a ton of interior cabin and storage space. It's super quiet inside. If I put down the seats, I could probably comfortably sleep in the back. Overall fit and finish felt amazing on mine. Still not a single rattle or squeak anywhere. It's only 2.5 years but no service trips yet except for oil changes and scheduled maintenance. I find the interior to have a nicely plain and consistent look with all of the knobs and buttons I love and find more efficient than touch controls, and it has quite a nice navigation system (Garmin). My only complaint is with sticking 20" wheels on it as standard. 19" smooths the ride quite a bit.
@Kevin K. These vehicle reviews are HIGHLY subjective. I test drove a Toyota 4Runner and Honda PP in the past week and found both vehicles to be quite enjoyable. A few years back I bought a Mazda CX-9 because everyone talked about how awesome it drove. That wasn't my experience. I found the front seat tight and turbo engine annoying. It's all about preference and not what these guys say.
Yeah it’s cause it’s Doug Demuro. He had an incident with some Honda PR people and has been beefing with Honda ever since. I think he told pieces of the story in his Civic Type R video. Notice how for any other car, some interesting quirk is a quirk, but for the Passport it’s “an odd decision from Honda.”
Pilot driver here. The green line has been there since at least the 2015 CR-V. It is used in eco mode. The 2017 pilot has the drive mode for snow, sand and mud.
Practical-Dependable-Reliable. The hallmark of every Honda/Acura I have ever owned since 1982. That's 37 years w/o a single repair bill, not ONE! Just normal maintenance, oil, tires, brakes and Timing belt/CV boots every 100k. Sure, this is a niche car, just so happens it fall's directly into my niche. Buy one used in 2021 for under 20k and it's a home run in my book.
Dang, 2021 didn't turn out quite right. Neither did 2020. I wish I could pick up one of these for under 30k. That micro chip shortage really messed things up and over inflated prices.
The point of changing the temperature is to calibrate it because not all sensors are calibrated accurately. My father Was obsessed with temperature accuracy and would solder resistors all to sensors To calibrate them On his BMW's
This ^. They're always off on cars, whether because of poor calibration or the fact that the surface on a metal car is not going to be the same as the air temperature.

Im quite shocked that Doug didn't know asimo. Even more, Honda has been using the Earth Dreams for a decade, but apparently Doug didn't know that either.
Honda used Earth Dreams on their Formula 1 cars in 2008 from what I remember at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix but the marketing slogan has probably been around longer than that.
I was thinking that as well, since I have an Earth Dreams engine in my 2015 Honda. Also almost all the interior quirks and features are the same as my 2015 as well..

Almost all Honda’s have the “Earth Dreams” badge on them, it’s not the name of the engine. It’s honestly kind of upsetting how little research you do on “minor” cars like these and then you research every little detail about the cars no one will be able to even buy.
Way back, worked at McD's. I don't remember why, but I did this for my break meal a few times. Unlike Bush's vs Grandma Browns, I'm indifferent to bottom or top buns. Regarding beans: Grandma browns with Hoffman franks. Bush's are like shitty refried but don't really work with tacos as well as they should.
The ‘adjust temp’ is something every car (that tells you the outside temp) should have because, as I’ve found over the years, they are usually off by a few degrees. My current car is always about 3-degrees low so I wish I could adjust it up by 3, but I can’t. So, while you may be baffled why they have this option, it makes complete sense.
Pretty sure A in the maintenance indicator is because there are different maintenance schedules A and B, you change the oil for each, but B requires additional maintenance.
Doug, I enjoy your work but as a car enthusiast as well I recommend you spend some more intimate time with Hondas ;) The "quirks" you mentioned for this car are not quirks because they are also on the most popular car in NA like the Honda Civic, same with the Honda Fit and probably most Hondas. The light by the tachometer that switches from green to white/grey has been on Honda Civics since the last generation (2012) and on many Honda models since. Same goes with the "Econ" button, that's been around since that 2012 generation Civic. The "A" in the Oil maintenance page signifies the type of service required. There are different combos of A, B and numbers to describe a major or minor service and what type. For all Honda owners (again, the Civic is the most popular car in NA) this is pretty standard stuff. Love the show but features that have been on the most popular car since 2012 are not worthy of the "quirk" segment.:P
What it means 8:24 minutes A - Replace just the engine oil B - Replace the engine oil, oil filter, rotate the tires, inspect the front and rear brakes, check the parking brake adjustment, and inspect other items specific to your vehicle
I can't understand why so many people are comparing this vehicle to a 4-runner. Nobody is claiming it is as capable off-road as a 4-runner or even a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have a family of four and live where there is snow on the ground 7 months of the year. 90% of my driving will be on city roads but for the ski trips and the fishing and camping trips and hauling my boat this vehicle would be a nice fit. That is who it is intended for, not the serious off-roader. It is unfortunate that it is priced about $5K too high in my opinion. Honda could have had a winner here for my demo if they would have priced this properly.
Two reasons why I don't just get a CRV. First is that I have never really liked the looks of them. Second is that I have three kids, so there will be four in the vehicle most of the time, possibly five. I really need more interior space than a CRV if I am going skiing or to the cabin or whatever. The decision for me would be between a Passport and a Pilot, and the Pilot just feels a bit too big and bland. I seem to be one of the few who doesn't mind the looks of the Passport, but that price tag - yuck.
Robert Canada GMC Terrain? (Chery) Volvo XC60? Less reputable manufacturers than 1970-2000 Honda, but about on-par with current Honda and way, way less ugly. If your wallet can handle the xc90, whew that is a looker that can carry a big bunch of kids and tug a boat.
Yeah, I think this is one of those reviews where it really shows how full of himself he's gotten. Not knowing one or two obscure historical facts/minor features of a car you're reviewing is one thing, but to review a SUV that's main selling point is it's off-road capabilities and not know (or even ATTEMPT to figure out) what each of it's different driving modes change is just plain unprofessional. It completely defeats the purpose of the review... He even had all the employees of the dealership nearby that he could have asked for even some basic info. I really hope he reads the comments of this video and pulls his head out of the clouds, because he seems to have forgotten that, after the iconic and ultra-expensive supercar/truck reviews, his reviews of relatively new "general public" vehicles have the highest view counts. Obviously the supercars and rare quirky vehicles are more entertaining reviews, but he does such a thorough breakdown of whatever he reviews that reviews of vehicles like this are only slightly less interesting, even if for a different reason.
Yet another bland, domesticated, over priced, grocery grabber pretending to be rugged. This trend of car companies neutering their once great SUVs to sell to soccer moms is getting old very quickly
Yeah, honda? you want to sell me a RUGGED SUV? Show me it catching air over a 60 foot dune and then show me the all the door and panel gaps. I bet this thing would look like a tesla after doing that.
Honda never had a "great" Passport. The first two Passports were actually rebranded Isuzu Rodeos that sucked due to Isuzo making crappy cars. Honda waited 16 years to let that memory fade before bringing back the name.
No he's not. I am. I also say "you should be" when a stranger says "sorry" after accidentally stepping in my way. Usually they get the joke. It's way more funny when they don't, though.
I bought a 2019 Passport Touring in Dec 2019 for about 37.4k plus several accessories needed for handicap and taxes, totaling about 42k. I was driving a very low mileage 2003 Acura Cl-s bought new, but I'm 74 with a leg injury which made climbing in into and out of the Acura difficult and painful. Didn't want or need the larger 3rd row seats. Didn't want a Jeep falling apart faster than the warranty could keep up with it. Didn't want to pay an extra 12k for a Lexus SUV. Live in the Pacific NW, where a car with good management on slick road, ice, snow, etc is a plus, and the AWD control system on the Passport is better than almost any other on the road. I'm not into heavy "off road", but I do want to go down trails and do light bush whacking for my landscape photography, now that I can't walk more than 100 feet at a time. Why not an Acura RDX? I don't want the little turbo engine - it's trouble waiting to happen, not worth saving 2 mpg. I don't need to pay an extra 6k for less interior space and a dash control package that looks like the product of congress between a BMW and a Werlitzer jukebox. So Doug, Honda built the Passport just for Me!
Mate , please think about the feature addition before poking fun of it with the viewers. The infotainment outside temperature reduction exists because the temperature sensor is inside the car , hence the temperature reading can be a bit off the actual temperature , hence they gave that option so that you can get a proper reading:) cheers!
Hate to go against everyone saying it looks like an Explorer, but to me it looks even worse. Almost like a Pontiac Torrent from the back. That's not a compliment.
The 4runner is a body on frame old schooled rugged vehicle that is basic, but worth 40k for being 4X4, RWD based, and solid overall with suspension set up. This passport is another family van small suv feminine mobile all dressed up. I'll get the 4runner.
Just replaced our 05 Xterra with a 2019 4Runner. Must be in the minority cause we only wanted two rows of seating which Toyota still offers. Some of us actually want the utility features got boats, landscape trailer and snowmobiles to pull and don’t have any use for a pick-up or a large suv. Just wish they still offered a 4Runner with a v8. Happy with our purchase!
@@jerminator0688 Body on frame in essence means the body of a vehicle is mounted on a rigid chassis that carries the engine and transmission. The benefit of this design is that there's increased torsional rigidity compared to unibody vehicles, where the frame and chassis are one. Agreed, I love his reviews but he definitely seems a bit out of touch with regular people cars
Not everyone knew they’re in the new Passport though.
So, what’s the reason for the changeable Outside Temp Display?
Brodie Thomas or Honda doesn’t have many quirks

That's actually fantastic, you can account for little variations in their temperature probes, also account for things like very hot pavement (the temp sensors are usually located near the ground)
Ryukachoo exactly
why can't the engineers do this?
@@FayezButts if you're really really anal about precise numbers and want total precision (Honda engineers, I'm looking at you) when parts age and settle in there's always a little drift and imprecision that creeps into any measurement device such as medical devices, micrometers, volt meters etc which is why they have periodic calibration to make sure they are giving correct values. Admittedly in a car temperature guage it is a bit of overkill.
No it’s just a retarded useless feature
Yes, mine is always wrong, so nice to be able to adjust it.
"A" in maintenance is for the Honda. If you call and schedule to do service with a Honda dealer you can just tell them you need "A" service.
Chris Persons The "A" is actually for an oil change. A "B" would be for oil and filter change. 1 - Tire rotation, 2 - Check filters and belts, 3 - Trans fluid and so on.

Robert Canada agreed. It's "more rugged" than an accord.
Just buy a CRV??
Robert Canada why not just get a CRV? Those are perfectly fine on snow
"I'm not exactly sure what effect these offroad modes actually have..." so What exactly do you do here?
You would think he'd do some research...
