I'm glad you're redoing it with a better plan. It made me sad that the snail was stunted and the shrimp starved. I would have gave in and taken out the floaters or added food
LPT for adding water to a new tank. Put a square of bubble wrap on the substrate and gently pour water onto it first. Once the bubble wrap starts floating like 3-4 inches off the substrate you can just dump massive amounts of water into the middle and it flexes and absorbs all the energy. It's legit game changing. Can fill a 20g with a bucket in like 4 minutes start to finish including bucket refills
I turned an old hanging lamp into a biosphere although I’m not sure that’s completely technical since it had one little tiny hole, but I could stick a toothpick with food on it in, but it lasted the whole two years that my fish lived, which is the usual life I’ve got these 2 to 3 years
Did the shrimp come from a cold water tank? Or was it straight from hot to cold?👀 I’ve got a neocaridina tank & really wanna do an ecosphere type setup, would be a bonus to Chuck some baby neo’s in
Hey Chris I’m new to the hobby and I’m tryna setup a tank and I was wondering if I could diffuse normal air into a co2 diffuser and not have any major problems and side effects or do I need to strictly use co2. I’m on a budget. Love from India 😊 If I can use normal air for how long do I have to keep it on per day.. We have good air quality it’s not very polluted and I will put a sponge or filter at the pump If I pump normal air...
No Way! I actually got a small piece of that carpeting plant from some free duckweed at the pet store! I had not idea it could be a carpeting plant. Also what shrimp are best for a 1 gallon? Are bamboo shrimp too big for that? I was thinking of starting a 1g shrimp tank
I don't know if I can get through this.😢 I just found one of my shrimp with Ellobiop... (Can never remember the proper spelling) that green lichen like growth on the belly. There's supposedly treatments, but it's like 80+% fatal just to treat. Freaking LFS being busy and not checking their stock when they get them in! Freaking dummy me, thinking I had done enough research!! It may crash my whole shrimp tank because Lil dude was in w them a while before the growth stood out enough to see. 😭😭😭 Edit; actually watching this I really have to thank you Chris. I don't you'll see this tho😅. But you've given me inspiration to make a jar home and let my infected shrimp live out his life alone. Not enclosed, I'll do feedings so I can monitor. I will possibly try the hydrogen peroxide treatment for shrimper first, but maybe just let him live out whatever's left in peace in a jar like yours without treating and focus on observing the rest of my colony to make sure they're not catching this horrible parasite/ algae/ ???. I can't find a ton of research to even really know what it is. And some of the research says it's not even Ellobiopsea (?) But another organism because Ello... Mostly presents in marine shrimp. So tldr; thanks Chris, I thought this would be depressing because everyone said euthanize shrimper, but I think I'll just let him live in a tiny home and then compost all the substrate/ plants. 💙🙏💙✌️
You know shrimp are social. Maybe instead of putting one lonely depressed shrimp in there, try and go for 2, male female and see if the closed ecosphere actually works, they will reproduce and if the babies survive the experiment truly works.
but why do you want to put them in a jar again instead of just using a small tank and keep them in a group, specially if you already know shrimp are social? to prove what? they will have sex? of course they will. there was an ecospere before with a shrimp it died really fast. must have proven that these ecospheres are not good for shrimp. equal to fishbowls for goldfish.
There was something wrong with my tank's filter so I went to deal with it. I still need to catch up on 5 pages of science, 2 pages of math, and finish my English presentation but it's in the middle of the night right now. Good news: I fixed my filter
Hello, I have a question I need some advice and I’m hoping you or people in the comments can help me bought a 10 gallon tank for my kids room but I don’t know what plants to stock it with so I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a list of easy to keep species
Somehow, and I dont know how, my duckweed is dying. I've seen small black dots moving that I think are lilypad aphids, and I don't know what i'm doing, does anyone have any advice??
And something random but boil oak leaves and the smell is amazing then you can put them in your tank and have some good smelling tea that you definitely do not drink
Are there any snails that can’t be housed in an enclosed ecosphere? I was planning on making one, but I couldn’t find any research on putting snails ecospheres.
I feel ya. I FINALLY got java moss to take hold in a couple of tanks, but other efforts proved fruitless. Definitely frustrating. Java FERN? I still can't keep alive.
@Dawn T my java ferns gladly rooted into my mopani wood, but the moss is giving me a real hard time staying moss lmao i might try ordering a different kind
Just say dirt and leaves Chris that are wet. Nobody can possibly compose what a wet forest is. People who touch grass touch that fake stuff like sod. Just kidding though 😂
@@pixazelz a Betta can kinda swim in a glass full of water too. still not okay to keep it in there, right? but I know it's somehow hard to tell people it's not okay to treat a shrimp like that, because "it's just a shrimp" or "c'mon it's tiny it's okay" or "nahh even they need to be im bigger group, my lonely shrimp is happy!" ... well, I accept that people handle fish an shrimp different. and I will never change them, like we cannot change fish abuser.

@@pixazelz I really don't get it why people say that. I assume it's an educational thing that you believe this is okay, when it's clearly not, shimp have needs too specially beeing in a group. these days I can pay my rent from selling shrimp and I'm not even breeding them professionally, I do just take good care and they reproduce so much, so I guess I'm doing the right thing because I researched a lot. But you know it's like try to confess a fish abuser that he/she is abusing fish, noone want's to hear that, and I'm fine with that. but just don't put shrimp in there please.
@@plejade4125 first of all , I dont live in the us you are just soooo assuming !!! (And this is wrong). but an ecosysphere big enough could support shrimps . Compared to a betta , the shrimp doesn't care about a bowl defforming their vision , or the space they are in. The ecosphere is big enough to sustain them without disturbing the water parameters and they clearly feel safe in There ... There is so Much differences between a shrimp and a fish . The shrimp doesn't care where IT is as long as the parameters are good , a food sources , plants , hiding spots , etc . They would breed like crazy in There too... I've kept shrimps. They dont get depressed and distressed like fishes because their need for space is different! and a 2.5 gallons can sustain a breeding colonie .
Bro I need your help, I have this blueish green algae that just will not go away. I've tried algae fix and just no light for 2 weeks and nothing I do will get rid of it. Any suggestions?
Cool vid, if I could suggest something? Maybe make new content instead of just reuploading a 2 year old video that you've already made? Kinda boring seeing the same old stuff
What you could've done is to shine a light from the sides so algae can still grow
I also have these snails in my aquarium, got in with the plants. They grow crazy fast.
Yes me too. Have a snail genocide once a month or so to control the population. Thought they’d be like rams horn or mtg snails….. they are not 😅
This was cool, but I feel really bad for Sven! I’m glad you’re going to open it now and feed your shrimp. Best of luck to Sven the 2nd!
I'm glad you're redoing it with a better plan. It made me sad that the snail was stunted and the shrimp starved. I would have gave in and taken out the floaters or added food
Yeah, why let animals starve for views?
Wow thanks for compiling these bro, will create one in a few days from now and find a native shrimp perfect for this :)
Shrimp don't only molt when they have enough calcium and other nutrients to survive/thrive, they can also prematurely molt due to stress.
i cant wait to see what happens! i started my first terrarium the other day, now i want to try this too

3:45 I usually see this around decaying things. I always called it fungus but it's probably just a common bacteria
This looks like a really fun project and I might have to start one at work.

I’m setting up my first true aquascape! I have driftwood and a rock for a 5 gallon.
Wow, this is super exciting. This is going to be so cool :D
Cool. Looking forward to seeing how the next one progresses ❤

Now that you are feeding critters within you could add more shrimp to see if they breed
Set it up with green water and infusoria, maybe lava rock for microbial growth, add some shells or even egg shells?
Damn, I wish I could get my java ferns to grow like that
There was a time when Crisis couldn’t grow Java fern 🤩
What type of light do I recommend for these jarscapes?
Love the gangster Minecraft music! Great video!! 🤩

I know that mystery snails are not a good choice for ecospheres, I would probably go for a smaller snail species
I definitely wouldn't put mystery or nerite snails in one. The "pest" snail varieties are great for them, though, because they stay so small.
