Great tutorial! I was genuinely struggling with playing a few videos on my PC, for some reason the video froze after 1-2 minutes but the sound kept going, and the VLC app wouldn't close without task manager. But after going through all the fixes listed, it seems to finally be gone. Seriously, thank you!
It worked amazing for a 1080p x265 HEVC 10bit movie, on a very old laptop! I put: 1000 ms file, disc and network caching OpenGL video output for Windows as output Disabled hardware decoding After seeing other videos about the same problem, your advice worked like a charm! Thank you
I don't use video stuff much but this looks like a good tutorial for those who do again brian you have come up with something useful everyday - my usual "fix" 🙂
Thank you, respected Sir. I was facing this issue and thinking that there is a problem with my SSD or windows. But thanks to you, now my problem is solved.
I also use VLC and have been hesitant to touch these kinds of settings. Thanks for the tutorial on VLC. I did tweak it and it did cure my stuttering.. I have a quite slow connection, and it also stuttered on saved videos on the hard disk. It does look like it is effective.
Good video! I had a look at your back catalogue, but didn't spot what I was looking for, have you ever done a video about putting Linux on an end of life Chromebook?
Just a small heads up regarding upgrading from Windows 10 home to Windows 10 pro. The trick is to (1) disconnect from the internet/unplug ethernet disable wifi (2) When activating, use the generic windows 10 pro key (google it). (3) When the PC restarts, connect back to the internet and then use your oem pro key to activate.
Which version of VLC do you currently have? Mine is 3.0.16 Vetinari and it says it's up to date when I check. If this is indeed the latest then that's fine. I've never had the issues you describe, but, I'll have a tinker anyway and see what occurs. Thanks for sharing! EDIT: Hmm, I must've seen another video on this as most of those settings were already changed when I looked at them!
I might have to go back and give VLC another go, it was a pain in the bum for those issues I swapped to use Pot Player and thats a bit more involved but at the moment plays better, in my opinion only.
I have a problem now video freezing problem is gone but When I start the video, the video plays but there is no sound, the sound comes after 20 seconds and if I skip 10s, then again the same problem will happen.
@Britec09 4K 60fps working for me fine, but 8K 30fps no,audio is playing but the screen is freezing, more intresting is,one of my private video on youtube in 8K 30fps not big one, arround 1min,its playing just fine and smooth, other my 8k video working in 4K only but the buffering speed seems be good enought to play it just fine. When i search for some random 8K video loading speed is mouch worse,no idea why.
For me, disabling the (Hardware-accelerated Decoding) fixed it!! I have an Asus A15 laptop and whenever I played a video on vlc it works great until I disconnect the charger and play it on battery, things start to get unbearable cause it's like stuttering every like 1 min and whatever's playin' it's just become an unwatchable experience for me!

Hi again! Just did another check on the Videolan page for VLC and there is a slightly newer version avaIable now. It's 3.0.17 but is still Vetinari.
I switched to Potplayer because of this problem. I like it great player.

Brian the cache cleaner video you made will that affect VLC having cache constantly cleaned?
Windows love of alternative software, intentionally causing problems. From the start. Nothing new.
