Nice to see a video that dosen't only concentrate on the surf side of this guitar.
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful :)
That intro demo was f**king sweet. It sounds like it should be a real song
Dude thank you!!! Might have to polish it up and release it someday :)
Wow! I'm an old guy who doesn't play or listen to this kind of music, but this demo makes me want to search it out. Really beautiful. Diggin' this guitar even though one more guitar is the last thing I need. The green one has my GAS all fired up. Well done.
This the type of demo I like that I can really hear the Sound features of the guitar .
Glad to hear it!
I got a pink one after viewing this review. Accurate depiction of the quality and originality of that instrument. I would be less enclined to say it's strat vibes other than the pickup config. It has such a unique sound. Its own thing. Amazing to see such an inspired design being both original (although inspired), high quality, great value and orginal sounding instrument!
It does have some awesome Biffy Clyro strat tones though :)
@standupart How do you feel about the guitar these days? How does it compare to Jag or Jazzmaster?
I still love it now that the newness has passed. It’s still feels - to me anyway- like it’s own thing next to the jazzmaster I have. Hopefully the build quality remains as good as it was when I got it. If so, still recommend ❤
I seriously thought nothing of Guild until I saw and started checking demos of this one. I played the regular Surfliner today and I was very impressed! I definitely want to try out the deluxe.
Wow! I was pleasantly surprised when I looked it up and saw the $699 price tag. Not bad at all! Not a super huge fan of poplar bodies, but you honestly can’t beat that price for something like this. Sounds and looks great. Definitely tempted to pick up the evergreen metallic version!
They definitely hit above their price tag. That green is sharp too!
You won’t be sorry you picked it up! I assure you!
I'm glad I clicked on this video because that tune is sweet! Reminds me of driving through the Texas Hill Country or up to Austin Texas 👍. I think my son will like this because he's a worship / punk guitarist and this is right up his ally 👊.
I tried the previous model when we were in Holland last autumn. Really very nice. Some really nice design touches. The carve at the bottom of the body being one of those alongside the headstock. Real class
It is a classy and unique aesthetic for sure.
Helluva demo and some really nice playing man. Well done.
🙏🏼 thanks for the kind words!
Excellent rundown. Guild really put a lot of thought into these, to come up with something novel and interesting. I have the first version (no trem) and it's great quality.
Thanks for watching! Totally agree - it’s been a guitar I’ve reached for quite frequently since it’s come in , and ahead of some 3-4x it’s price tag. Really fun one!
Fantastic sounding guitar, effects and playing! Subscribed.
Thanks! 🙏🏼
The intro track was killer. Subbed!
Thanks so much!
Thanks for showcasing the wonderful tonal colors of this guitar. I have seen some videos presenting this model before, but your video made my decision perfect to purchase the rose quartz metallic color variant instead of the green.
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful - and I hope you love the color as much as I do, it's really stunning in person.
I love this guitar, man. First time I like a pink guitar as well. Played it the other day at a store. I only wish they offered a shorter scale: 24.75 inches or even 24 inches, like a jaguar.
Totally. It would be an interesting vibe with a short scale. I’m probably most familiar with the 25.5” so it doesn’t bother me, but def would be curious how it was with a short scale
Thanks for the content. 👍🏼
hey thanks for watching!
I like the funky Frankenstein look. It’s really cool and sounds great.
Love your demos man. Great compositions and production on all of these!
This thing looks very cool. I’ve never tried a guild, but I may have to.
Thanks a ton! I've had a lot of fun playing this one specifically - really cool guitars with a nice variety of tones. I'll be demoing a newer Starfire I soon as well! Guild are making great affordable guitars.
@@AmbientEndeavors thanks for the reply! The Starfire models look great too. I need to go play some, and I also want to check out the Harmony stuff that I’ve seen you demo here as well.
I love mine! Not my most expensive guitar by a stretch but the one I grab the most now and I haven’t modified a thing to it! Just so much unique character and versatility! Can’t wait to see your demo!
Hi. Was the guitar set up nicely straight out of the box? I just bought the regular surfliner and I really like it but it's got a few kinks in the fretwork and some slight buzzing.
@@jackthompson5863 My frets were perfect. Slight buzz but I adjusted the bridge height a little and it was great!
Brother you coaxed some very beautiful tones out of this Guild. The pickups some very articulate clean and have a great snarl to them overdriven. I like the total look of this guitar, familiar but set apart. Nice review!
thanks man! been one of my favorites to play this past year. thanks for watching!
Awesome guitar, great play through
Thanks for checking it out!
Really dig how these look and sound. Was thinking of getting a jazzmaster custom built by my luthier but seeing these Im so tempted to get one and just mod it slightly.
Gorgeous playing too dude. No messing about, just pure vibe. Perfect demonstration 👌
Thanks a bunch! Glad you enjoyed it. This has probably been the funnest guitar I've had in this year. Quite impressive for the price.
Great video!!!!
Hey thanks for checking it out !
That overdrive is so nice
Agreed! I love this thing!
This is a fun one. Hearing lots of Tele-esque tones w/ the single coils, which I totally am on board for.
Yeah these single coils are interesting; definitely some nice sparkle.
I love how the bridge pickup isn’t too dark compared to the single coils, might have to sell my Player Strat for this. Great demo as always!
totally- it's warm but not overly dark. I think it pairs so well with the single coils!
Having owned a player strat before, this feels so much better to play in my honest opinion, especially since I'm a sucker for that offset body and trem system
Let me know if you get it !
I nearly purchased the hardtail version when I was in Belgium over Xmas and New Year but the store only had the non trem version. It was a guitar flavour that really felt like it needed a vibrato.
I think the vibrato is the cherry on top for sure, and it's so smooth. It rounds the guitar out nicely and for those of us (myself included) that have become accustomed to having a vibrato system on most guitars I play, I'm glad they made this Deluxe model!
Nice playing, forgot I was listeningto a guitar review for a minute. I have one of these I traded a Hexe Revolver for but havent had time to plug it in. Sounds like Ill be happy with it.
mm, that's cool to hear - thanks for watching! Hope you dig the guitar :)
Absolutely love the vids man, very informative. If you could choose one the reverend double agent OG or the Surfliner deluxe, what would it be? Cheers!
Guilds really hit it out of the park with their new geetars
Totally agree!
Such a beautiful sounding guitar. Might have to get one ( if I can sneak it in the house)😅
It really is! Definitely worth a play-through if you can find one locally. I'm impressed.
How well recorded sound you have!!!
thanks a bunch! hope the vid was helpful :D
I actually picked up the black one because of this video. Got mine through Sweetwater and chose the lightest one I could find. It’s fantastic. Had my first gig with it and it killed when going through a Vox AC15.
Really great stuff!
Love it!
Did you get it setup through sweetwater or adjust in your own?
Really unique sound and tones, and your playing makes it shine. Do you think the surf reference in the name speaks more to the guitar colors ? 🤔🤷🏻♂️
Great review. Subbed. Thanks for sharing. ✌️
Thanks for the sub and for watching! Perhaps - I’m sure the name informed the colors if nothing else. You can def get some fun surf sounds from it but it can do so much more. :)
Great demo, thanks - appreciate the clean tone bit, once you add OD it's anyone's guess what the thing sounds like, really . . . I noticed the green one at my local stockist last week and will be spending some time withit shortly - just what I'm looking for,, actually. Nice one!
Thanks for watching! Yeah they’re fun guitars. Nice that you’ve got one close to check out in person
i really like the design. it reminds me a jagstang in some way. but with a more jaguar influence
totally, kind of grabs from those offsets in a cool way. I find the pickup combination much more versatile overall than most offsets I've had and moved on from
Good infomercial!
Hey thanks for tuning in!
Any plans to release the intro song on spotify or anything? It sounded beautiful and i would love to hear a full composition.
Great ambient playing man.
I think im going to pick one of these up.
For the price, you just cant pass it up.
Thanks! They’re really fun guitars :)
Cool guitar and great demo :) Similar pickup configuration to the D'angelico Bedford Sh guitars, both with unqiue HSS layouts
ahh interesting, I'll have to check that one out. Thanks for watching!
@@AmbientEndeavors it's pretty sweet! two tele pickups and mini humbucker in the bridge :) I've got the hard tail version and added a Les Trem to it
Great demo and love all of them. This is exactly the type of guitar feel I enjoy playing as well.
Looking for a new one and hesitating between this one and the reverend double agent…. Do you have a favourite? Which one do you think is easier to play? I am not as good as you 😂
I think they're both great options and great guitars. Different pickup combinations, which I think might be a distinguishing factor for some. I personally have picked up this Guild far more than the Reverend, mainly because I like the variety of tones from the HSS config, and I like the vibrato a good bit. I'd put the quality and playability in a very similar camp for both. Hope this helps!
Guild is killing it lately - I truly think they are the best guitars for the price. I own many Custom Shop guitars and LP Reissues, Es-335’s, vintage, etc. Recently bought a Guild X175 Manhattan Special (Korea) and am BLOWN AWAY with how great it is for the price. Hearing amazing things about these Indonesian made Guilds also considering the price.
I’m definitely going to grab a couple more Guilds since they are so affordable and playable. Perhaps I will sell off some of my more expensive guitars and recoup some cash?
totally agree! They've sent out this and a Starfire I DC and both have really exceeded my expectations in terms of quality, playability and sounds. This one is an especially fun and fresh design and feel - can't recommend them enough!
Wonderful music & sound, reminded me of early 80's Church albums. Guild Surfliner appears to be a much better option for my 2nd guitar than the Squire CV Jag or JM. Would you agree? (Own a Squire CV Tele). Love this channel and your music. ❤
What a beauty! Any neck dive issues with it?
Are you referring to weight/balance when its on your body? If so, none at all. It's really balanced nicely and a comfy player standing up.
I have wanted a JM for some time and they are just to much for a good one. I considered settling on a mid level strat like a Sire S-7 but I don't like the fretboard. I want rosewood or ebony. This guitar is very nice. No coil tap but that's fine with me. Great guitar for the cash. Edit, the only thing I don't like is the tremolo JM style is not replaceable with something better with out at least drilling a hole or two in it. From the reviews I have though the trem system performs perfectly.
Sire released some new model! And of course prs has some good options!
Love it! It sounds more Fender than a Fender!!!
I was surprised how "strat-y" the single coils sounded. I'm a big fan of this guitar.
Great Mod platform over all, would love to see what a premium version of this would be with better wood, pick ups etc.
Agreed! And the price point is so solid that even to jump up to say $1500 it would be really interesting to see what they could do in that type of model.
I don't know, man. We live in the world of more expensive is better, but that might not be the case. Things that were overlooked in the past become vintage treasures in the future because people finally got over it and gave it an honest listen. It's good as it is. It doesn't need to be fixed. It just needs to be played.
Hey man, digging your videos! I’m trying to choose between this guitar and the Reverend Double Agent that I watched your review for as well. Would you recommend one over the other?
Good choices! It's a tough call as they're both solid instruments. Anecdotally, I've played this one much more than the Reverend. With no knock to the Reverend, but the vibrato and pickup combos the Surfliner offers just provides a unique experience that for me in my collection stands out a bit more and has me reaching for it. I think it's a bit cheaper, and I'd say stands up in quality, so those factors - along with what genres and contexts you'll be playing in - are things to consider!
@@AmbientEndeavors i appreciate your reply! Currently my only other guitar is a jazzmaster with 2 single coils, so I think both options will offer a different sound than i currently have. My local guitar store has a surfliner and a reverend 390 in stock so I’m gonna try those side-by-side. No double agent, unfortunately, but at least I’ll be able to compare something comparable with a p90 in the neck.
Such an interesting guitar. Whats the tuning stability like?
Been pretty solid so far!
Excellent review, how would you rate this against the Reverend double agent? both seem like great versatile guitars...... do you still have both?
Thanks man! They’re both great, and in the same league I’d say. Slight edge to the rev on fit and finish but not by much. The pickup combinations make them fairly different sounding, and anecdotally I have played the Guild much more than the Rev. I LOVE the vibrato on the guild and really like the flexibility of jumping from single coils in the neck/mid to a warm HB in the bridge. I do love the bass contour of the Rev tho. Hope this helps! Both are still around ✌🏼
How your pickups Height are set? I have the same guitar but i feel the HB way too dark compared to the other positions. It does sounds really good in this video!
I haven’t touched the heights, they seemed normal to me. The bridge is definitely darker than the single coils. I tend to play my drives and amps on the brighter side so it melds nicely to my ears.
how do I remove the whammy bar!? yikes. great tones btw this thing is sneaky gem.
Problem for me is it is the fender scale rather than the shorter 24.75 scale. But it is a very nice guitar.
Ahh, this would be really interesting with the 24.75 scale. I don't mind it because it sort of feels like an offset...but to each their own! Thanks for watching :)
Curious what the pickup routes look like, an HH model or P90/H pair could be also also rad. What’s the noise floor like on these?
Haven't opened it up, but will report back about the route when I do. Noise floor feels pretty "normal" in the single coil positions. I've definitely played noisier Strats.
The opening song reminds me of early Broken Social Scene. I know that’s not the point of the video, but just wanted you to know!
that's so cool! Thanks for watching :)
The headstock seems like a slimmer version of that one from the Fender Starcaster. I find myself being fascinated by more unique looking guitars lately...and that one´s a beauty really. How does the neck feel? Is more on the modern, or the vintage side?
Totally, it draws some inspiration from some of those slightly aesthetically quirky guitars of the past. Kind of makes you step back and go "huh, I guess that all really does *work* together" visually.
It's a really comfortable "C" shaped neck, a little more flatter of a C, not super chunky. I'm just seeing it has a 10" radius, which is interesting...but I really love the feel of the neck. Not sure how I'd categorize it on modern/vintage sliding scale, but hope this helps!
@@AmbientEndeavors Yeah, that helped, thanks. Comfortable "C" is what I wanted to hear. Since I own a BaumGuitar, slim "C" feels simply to thin.
@@Andreas_tropicalwinterhey you seem like a good person to ask this question towards. I’ve been looking at guitars in this style around the 1k mark. This and the Baum leader tone. Are there any other options???
@@kamarienedwards1757 I not sure. The Starcaster by Squier doesn't felt that bad when I tried one. Ot's an Offset an a Semihollow too. I haven't tried the Guilt by now but I would give it a shot.
That bump on the headstock worries me a little, In my experience with other guitars your fingers can get pinched/hurt when tuning that high e. I would shape it down to straight but that would hurt resale value...
hmm , I can hear that point but never considered it as more than a minor inconvenience.
Might be a silly question, but you in Minnesota? Rare to see a twins hat haha I want this guitar so bad and would love to play one. Been looking for an offset for worship tones
I am! Just west of MPLS ✌🏼 go twins!
I ❤ The Replacements!
Well, shit. I may have to get one of these. The price is great for those sounds!x
Highly recommended! I’ve only had it a few months and I think it’s gotten the most play of any of my guitars in that time.
Amazing guitar, I have it in black.
love it ! it's become one of my favorites!
Any idea how much it weighs? My Guild s100 Reissue is my heaviest guitar, which is a little drawback but its a beast.
Not precise, but I’d say it’s a tad heavier than my teles. Noticeable, but not uncomfortably heavy in my opinion. Sweetwater has them in the 8-8.5 lb range for reference
Heyyy duder! How's the neck profile on this lady? Can smaller hands play it okay? Also how does the bridge pickup handle more higher gain sounds?
yea, it's a tad chunky C but I find it pretty comfy and I have smaller hands. I don't use much high gain, it gets a little ratty with overdrive but in a cool way.
Is the neck like a modern C as in the Squier Classic Vibes or a bit thicker. I prefer a thinner neck profile myself.
It day it’s a bit thinner feeling than what I usually think a C to be. Not dramatically thin tho. Maybe modern leaning?
@@AmbientEndeavors nice thank you so much. Love you’re ambient progressions too. Cheers mate.
The only thing that I don't like about it is the slanted back headstock. It looks weird on an electric, especially when the headstock isn't symmetric imo. Amazing guitar tho :)
I can see that. I love the sort of reverse Firebird vibe of the headstock.
@@AmbientEndeavorsDefinitely my thoughts. Just ordered the Evergreen version. How you finding it after a month or so?
If you had to buy one, between the J mascis and this one, which one would you choose?
Personally, this one. Just more tonal variety, I prefer the vibrato on this one, and I love the aesthetic especially with this pink.
Thank you. Your reviews have been so useful
Trying to decide between this and a classic vibe Jaguar….tough choice
The Surfliner deluxe definitely brings more versatility!
Does it come with a gig bag? If not what type of case/gig bag fits it?
It does come with a nice padded gig bag.
Q: (thanks, I sub'd and liked): What's the weight? How does it balance standing up (neck dive, body dive, etc)?
hey thanks! weight is about 8 / 8.5 lbs. The balance is comfortable; I'd say the neck is a bit heavier than a standard JM style, but not enough to give it neck dive.
Do you know if the offer in left hand?
I don't *think* so :-/
where do you take your background beats?
I use software called Toontrack EZ Drummer 3 to program drums and percussion, and lately have been using a lot of Output's Arcade sampler.
Man I so wish that it had a single coil in the bridge too. I really don't enjoy a humbucker in a guitar like this, everything else seems so perfect
What I think would have been brilliant is added a coil split option for the humbucker. I personally love the choice to have HSS, I think it makes it wildly versatile but the coil split would open up that SSS sound too for those that want it. Or perhaps you swap it out for a P90 or low-wind something to give a lighter tone, I've considered that too.
I bet a lollartron would slap there
Oh and by the way, found your channel searching examples of the Guild since I'm looking for a new guitar for a new post rock/90's alt wall of reverb type of band I'm firing off with a buddy. What a treasure your channel is for me right now! Mega ultra subscribed :D
Go check out the 60 Cycle Hum video where Ryan split the Humbucker on his Surfliner Deluxe if you haven't already.
@@user-oh5ox8gy8p super kind - thanks so much for the support and glad you're digging it!
Hello my friend, where are they manufactured ?
Indonesia 👍🏻
How fragile do u think the headstock is?
hasn't broke yet! ha, I don't know, it seems like a normal-ish headstock construction to me. But I tend to baby my stuff and won't be using it at any bars or clubs to really put it to the test.
Is it neck heavy?
No, not too bad. No neck dive, the body weight and the trem make it sit really nicely, like an offset.
The intro track sounded like turnover, and that’s a good thing.
hey that's cool to hear! thanks for listening :D
It looks very much like a Bilt
I could see the resemblance in some ways.
I’m a lefty and I curse the gods
you are not alone! I've gotten a bunch of comments from lefties bummed they're not available in that option.
@@AmbientEndeavors
It’s almost impossible finding a reasonably priced Jaguar lefty so I had my hopes… 😄
Can't stop playing it : did you buy the guitar then ? Should we believe paid promotions ?
If you take all YT headlines literally you'll be sorely let down on the whole. But if you scroll through my vids and follow me on Instagram you'll find I genuinely love this guitar, I think it's a ton of fun and definitely worth folks time to try one out. Oh, and I've received $0 from Gretsch to say any of this. Scouts honor. ✌️
@@AmbientEndeavors Thanks for your answer , I believe you now !
Are you paid to promote this guitar?
Guild sent me the guitar. I have not received a dollar from Guild. I happily play and use it in videos and gigs but there were no expectations of that beyond doing this video.
@@AmbientEndeavors That's really cool of them. Thanks for the info.
dang bro you a legit plug now huh
A “legit plug” indeed
