Willys Jeep Emergency Brake Cable INSTALL | (Part 1)

Instructional guide how to install the emergency brake (e brake) cable to the cane and lever. The cable pulls on the lever which in return pushes the springs apart putting pressure on the brake shoes creating friction on the brake drum. This action creates the emergency brake affect when the emergency brake cane is pulled on the dashboard.

During the harsh winter months in Canada we decided to take the Willys apart, fix a few parts, and get it back on the road. Then repeat this the next winter. During the winter of 2021 we rebuilt the brakes and basic engine upgrades (spark plugs, water pump, distributor, ignition coil, etc.). THIS winter of 2022 we are tackling to replace the transmission and transfercase but finding lots of other problems deep within the engine. Could you use a foot operated emergency brake system instead of the cane with this this hard ware?

It would be impossible considering the cane pulls on the cable and a foot operated system would push on the cable. It would need a modded brake cable and some serious thinking to make that work.

My foot operated emergency brake doesn’t push the cable it pulls it. The more I have thought about it I could probably make it work on the same principle by using a cable clamp on the crossmember and attach the cable to the emergency brake lever. I still appreciate your thoughts on the matter. Thank you.☺️☺️☺️

My 1954 Willys CJ-3B does not have an emergency brake. Would this fix work where there was never an emergency brake?

Yes it would. As well, our CJ2A never had an emergency brake when it was bought.

@@LetsBuildaWillysJeep I’m in Colombia. This place is loaded with hills. Not having an emergency brake is asking for an accident. Just going home is a huge hill. My Willys wants to roll backwards.
