I appreciated so much how you showed what DIDN'T work during this install...When you look at a lot of how-to videos, they seem so eeeaaasyyyy....And then you tackle the same job, and you hit a dozen obstacles. It's hard to accurately decide if you want to tackle something, and also it makes you feel like a total DOLT! Thanks so much!
This is fantastic to help countless people in a similar situation! Thank you so much for showing the exact process, including all of the obstacles you encountered!
for 28 you show some expert skills.. how do i know? im 63, i have seen it and know it, you must have some carpentry in family or your work before roaming the country to know the things i saw by your age.. or your just a genius!!!!... i think that one... good for you David!!!!!!!!!!! and so lucky for you Jenni
Just bought one to install in my work trailer so that we’ll have it on job sites. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. You are a gentleman and a scholar.
We've used a Nature's Head composting toilet for many years. Never had a single day of toilet sewage smell. No problems whatsoever. We use peat moss instead of the coconut material. It required zero work, unlike the coconut bricks. We add zero moisture to the composting medium, so we don't ever have problems with stuff growing in the composting bin. When we empty the bin, we do not do a lot of cleaning of the remaining residue, because that is already home to the bacteria that is needed to get the composting process started again.
Hey David, First of all, thanks for the walkthrough! We're putting our Nature's Head in in a week from now and are super grateful to see a familiar face on a video we desperately needed! Also, I wanted to say that as a beginning UA-camr, it's super encouraging to see how far you guys as well as your production value have come in the last couple years. Keep doing your thing, and we hope to see you out there someday!
It's so nice to ride along with such a nice young couple like you. This way of living is probably easier when you are young. Ha Thanks for sharing your travels.
+Marge M Thank you Marge! I'm sure it's easier physically, but we are leaning a lot through trial by fire that good 'ol wisdom would have probably helped a lot with! Haha
Well at least you added a fuse that's what I was saying the whole video. Fuses should be installed as close to the battery as possible that way any chafing on The Wire that might cause it too short to metal which is usually grounded to the negative the battery will cause the fuse to trip preventing the long-run of wire from going up in flames. I know this the hard way thankfully it was just something small. The fuse is there to protect both the wire from damaging anything else and shut it off or to protect if you draw more than the wire is capable of supplying. It's also a good idea to do it that way as if the fuse were to ever blow you would have to trace down all the wire until you found it. I'm assuming it gets wet under the RV so I think I did see a non water-resistant electrical box down there and tape can only go so far.
+Jason Smith Thank you! So far it is still going well. We love the fact that it let us combine oir black and gray tanks. We are still planning on making a review video after we've had it longer.
They described it in another video. They put a valve on the very end of the sewage output tube. You then open the grey and black tank valves. As they would generally both flow to the same output they are now effectively plumbed together. Gravity will even the contents of the two tanks. As you fill the contents of your gray tank,it flows backwards into the black tank.
I hope you see this! Next weekend we are removing our RV toilet and putting in a composting toilet. My question is the 2 screws that hold the toilet in place how did you remove those?
Love your channel, just got our first RV a month ago and watching and reading everything we can find. Your channel has been helpful. One thing though, I just now got to the same point you did with the toilet flange, tugged on it a few times and thought it was glued or bonded.. and then I tried twisting it, and voila, t unscrewed! It was screwed onto the pipe coming up from the black tank! I then put my red stopper thing into it and tightened the wingnut and it expanded in the pipe. I wonder if yours just needed to be unscrewed as well? - Anyway, See you out there somewhere boondocking soon!
+Maria Vicinaiz Thank you! We like it a lot. The biggest pro by far is that it lets us combine our gray and black tank into one huge gray tank so we can stay out boondocking and dry camping for longer without dumping. It was definitely worth the investment. We will be making a video on how we like it and review it sometime soon.
Dude, that was awesome. Great job! Would that toilet work in a T@b 320 that has a wet bath, where the shower and toilet are enclosed together? Or do you think it might cause issues getting wet when showering? Thanks!
That is a great question, we wouldn't recommend it as we have a hard enough time keeping mold out without a wetbath, but these were originally made to go in boats so we'd recommend checking with the Natures Head manufacturer and double checking.
Is there an issue with connecting the urine tank into the RV's grey water tanks? From what I have seen in many cases urine has been used as fertilizer in gardens, that aside I am assuming you are dumping the grey water at a waste station anyway...
people do that but if you are going to run urine into grey water be very prepared for really bad smelling grey water thanks to the urine. i've run across some who just plumb the urine into the existing black water tank instead. others just dump the bottle down the sink drain...
Oh man, that's awesome. I usually have one eeveelution in my party at all times. Gardevoir is my #1though haha Just wish she was in more. But Eevee (Jolteon) rocks!
Ok i dont understand why you would want a doublesized grey water tank. I get doubling fresh water tank but your grey water? You cant use that for cooking or drinking so why double that?
boondocking and usually replacing the black tank (or even grey tank) can be a lot of work so some decide to just let the grey & black water tanks become one big grey tank. I have plenty of room for another 100gal fresh water tank already if I decide to go that way. I like the idea of having the full 100gal of waste water storage for my rig. Where I like to roam there are not always dump stations so being able to hold the extra waste water is a big help.
I've now seen maybe 25 toilet videos that's really enough but I will in my upcoming future build go the composting route but I'll make my own toilet in you're case I would have just used existing toilet for pee and if needed doo doo in a bag in the toilet and some litter in the bag make a cover and toss out bag w #2 etc in out saved money on the new toilet number one s could go in black tank empty out when needed.it's your business but since you already had a toilet there I think u threw u money down the drain so to speak but for some one wanting to see how this is installed its good you certainly have every right to do what u want .

Sounds like Nature's Head is the product I will be investing in when I convert my RV toilet. Sweet :)
Excellent, Natures Head is the toilet I plan on putting in my cabin.

I realise this video was quite awhile ago, but do you have a video of connecting your waste tanks together to make one tank?
That’s the video I’m interested in!
Gone with the wynns has a video about that 🙂
Didnt know you guys had a compost. Super jealous, we go threw sssooo much water.
I hope you fixed that water leak under the sink, seen it dripping when you were drilling the hole inside the cabinet.

How far from wall does it need to go?
Really a tight area for the toilet. Hope it works out.

Hey do you guys get any smell coming from the vent hose When your outside the rv hanging out ?
What did you use to cap off the water line? Do you check it to make sure it doesn’t leak or drip?
22:49...Le Bump LOL ;)
What are those white rings that go around the pipe/vent hose?
Have you guys thought about converting to an extra fresh waster tank instead of gray water ?
"Jenny it's in!"
What side plug did you use ?

I'm very surprised they can't come up with a way to mount that to a regular toilet flange...
I would call that a fail on the manufacture.
How do you combine the black to the gray tank??
Did your RV already come plumbed
Hello! Have you posted an update on how the composting toilet is working? Any regrets? Give us the poop...err I mean scoop. :-)
+Travis Adams Hahaha actually our very next video coming out tomorrow (Thursday the 10th) is our review on our composting toilet!
If the electricity for the fan runs through living space... why not put the fuse in living space. Water and road salt will eat at outside fuses
Where do you dump it when it’s full ?
Also, who's the Eevee freak? lol
Me (David), Eevee is my favorite Pokémon! Jenni got me all those Eeveelution plushies for Christmas haha.

Thank you Julie we really appreciate that! Yeah it's not the prettiest thing ever hahaha. But hey, function over form with this thing :P
WHY Not use shrink tube instead of electrical tape
:)
So you basically disonnected a lovely flush toilet for an indoor 'outhouse'.
Did you even listen to why we did it? We had our reasons and after a year and a half we are happy with it.
