  • This time I talk about one of my favorite slasher movies.
My Bloody Valentine is a 1981 Canadian slasher film directed by George Mihalka and written by John Beaird.
It stars Paul Kelman, Lori Hallier, and Neil Affleck. The plot tells about a group of young adults who decide to throw a Valentine's Day party, only to incur the vengeful wrath of an assailant in mining gear who begins a killing spree.
Conceived and produced entirely over the course of around a year, the film was shot on location in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, in the fall of 1980.
It was theatrically released on February 11, 1981 by Paramount Pictures, coinciding with the Valentine's holiday.
Despite a mixed response from critics and grossing $5.7 million at the box office, the film has developed a large cult following over the years since its release.
My Bloody Valentine faced notable censorship, having a total of nine minutes cut by the Motion Picture Association of America due to the amount of violence and gore.
Though co-producer Dunning confirmed that the excised footage still existed, attempts to release it proved difficult as Paramount Pictures refused to offer an uncut version.
In 2009, Lionsgate subsequently acquired home media rights to the film and released Blu-ray and DVD editions with three minutes of additional footage restored. The same year, Lionsgate released a remake of the film.

This is one of of the best slasher classics; a shame the MPAA were a bunch of douches; but at least we can see the movie unrated

Great classic horror flick, should be in any top 10 for slasher movies. A memorable killer with a really intimidating appearance.

Definitely a superb slasher from the golden age,if not the definitive in my humble opinion. Execution, special effects, performances, just a well rounded gem! From the ending&plot for that matter, this one did not need a sequel or franchise because it was a story complete. Such a unique adaptation to the slasher sub genre of horror and don't get me wrong, carpenter Halloween 1&2 are my personal favorite when it comes to all around horror films for its surreal experience among direction, score, tension and atmosphere but I'd have to say that Valentine '81 would be my favorite in the slasher genre. Friday the 13th is my favorite horror/slasher franchise but for a stand alone,Valentine '81 is top of the food chain. P.s.,is that you,a little rambo in the frame pic under Levaithan poster? I ment no disrespect,I blame my peripheral vision lol

Like I said last year, MBV is one of the best and most underrated slashers out there. The features better not disappoint for the Scream Factory blu-ray. Great review as usual.

1:36 I figure they won't do that either but maybe they could do is dirty up the negative on the film to make it match the footage better you know make it like grindhouse style sword of like a fan did with ''Friday The 13th-The New Blood'' The Uncut Recut but in that case they made the whole film VHS quality to munch up the deleted footage which was VHS.
8:32 Yes that's Keith Knight he would on to be one of the gang members in ''Class of 1984'' as well may he rest in peace!
    13:36 Same here!
A very done job on talking about one of favorite underrated slasher films ever I love then and now I hope Shout Factory doesn't drop the ball bro?
