If you’ve never seen the filter like in the vid you’d be surprised that’s it’s a simple mesh screen. Hardly worth the effort to replace as most wear particles in a transmission are much smaller than the filter screen. The pan also does not have magnets. This is why it’s important to do the drain and fills in a timely manner. That said the transmission is a pretty solid unit with low failure rates. Don’t take my word for it, search the web for articles from actual transmission builders and repair shops. Personal experience my 2014 Elantra GT has over 200k on the original transmission with 50k fluid changes. There are more than enough bad transmissions like Jatco and offerings from Chevy, Ford and Stelantis to make the Hyundai six speed look like a champ. Keep the fluid clean and forget the filter.
I have a 2014 Elantra As well but mine is the GF4G 1.6 Engine. Has the same 6 speed as well and the car is currently doing 262,000 KM with the original transmission. It still drives fine and I've been doing 40,000Km Fluid Changes. The only thing I get is a noise when I'm driving and the Transmission isn't fully warmed up. It sort of goes away when it's warm but not quite which I suspect is the filter being clogged and the fluid doesn't flow as efficiently as it should. I could be wrong but that's what I suspect. All in all though great transmission and I'm hoping with the regular fluid changes it'll be fine because it's costing me alot of money to have the filter changed.
That's not planned obsolescence, it is a self destruct timer!
if you change the fluid regularly, that's not the case. Automatic transmissions don't generate contaminants like an engine does. I know MANY of these cars with over 300k on the transmissions.
Thank you for your clear instructions. That the filter is difficult to replace unless the transmission is dismantled was very helpful.
I will say he is right, change the transmission fluid, my Elantra started to stutter and it would be slow to switch gears, I changed the transmission fluid because go my surprise it only had one out of the 4 quarts, this is why this fluid is not a lifetime, change it every 60 thousand miles
Thanks for posting this video. This now confirms that it can’t be changed in these cars. I always thought the dealer was full of it when they said the filter couldn’t be changed, just like how they now claim that the fluid is lifetime and it’s a sealed unit.
It can be replaced just take it off from engine mine needs swapped after the flush
I was told the same thing... My fluid is now $#it
@@calilife3588 you mean after disassembling the transmission from engine?? Then we can change?? Please reply
This is why I don't recommend Hyundai or Kia. Really bad design. Buy Toyota or Honda.
@@harryhansraw1290 yes, you must remove the transmission from the car to change the filter. Or you can drill two very well placed holes in the outer case and replace it, (after removing the valve body and hating life) you then will need to tap and seal the hole because it's a reservoir
Valvoline Max+ is rated on side of body for SP4- 2017 Elantra calls for SP4.
That's correct.
You do not have to buy Hyundai.
Hyundai sold its atf for 23 dollars per quart...that's 92 dollars a gallon...valvoline synthetic maxlife atf on sale from Amazon for 3 gallons for 52 dollars ..that's 17 dollars per gallon...so hyundai atf is over 5xs as expensive....what I did however is give my hyundai amsoil signature series atf for first change and after 200k will revert to valvoline maxlife....it's what you can afford...oem can't hurt but money-saving alternatives go a long way for similar performance...just do drain and fills every 40k....hopefully it lasts 300k...
Thank you so much. I'm going to change my fluid myself instead of having the dealership do it. They will charge waaaaaaay too much.
AMAZING THANK YOU SIR!!! 🦾💪🏼👏🏼🙌🏼
You guys are great! The videos are brief and clear, thank you.
Thanks 4 ur very usefull sharing❤
I have two questions,
my daughter has a 2013 accent SE.
I intend to replace her transmission fluid.
Am I right to assume that the situation is the same as this?
And also I see in some videos a plug on the side of the case they call the fill hole.
Is that the same transmission fluid or is what comes out of there a different gear box oil?
Some commenters say its the same fluid and others say its different.
I’m working on an 06 Azera, glad to have clarification because the tranny in that one is similar to the one featured here. At least there’s a drain plug and a dipstick. I’m especially glad that I’m finding this out before I even grab my tools and not when I went through a ton of trouble to take the pan off.
This is not the case for all of these transmissions. Many have an access panel on the bottom where the drain plug is. However, they don’t use a rubber gasket, instead you will have to use transmission RTV sealant but it can easily be done. Just be sure and check your transmission to see if it has the panel on the bottom attached with many bolts, if so, you just pullt the filter down. 😉
Yeah most transmissions aren't up like this one
So it’s definitely not part of preventative maintenance. I’ll just drain and refill with fresh fluid.
2018 HYUNDAI ELANTRA
Manufacturer/Dealer became so greedy they will try everything to stop DIYers
Question
So I cannot change the filter. What if i spray brake cleaner from the drain whole into the filter to clean as much as possible before refill?
That may work. But then you must make sure to drain/fill it 4X.
Thank you for this!
Even if you replace the solenoid..its goin to be broken very soon, yet again cuz you cant replace a bad filter..
Is that transmission fluid good that’s on Amazon why is so much cheaper than the stuff at advance which is 14.99
Where do you pour the transmission fluid in sonata
great videos. would it be possible to please include torque specs for re assembly in your videos?
Where is the video to replace it cuz mine needs replaced i had a flush an now i believe its clogged transmission is making loud noises
Have to take apart whole gearbox. Might as well rebuild it
You guys are great, very helpful 😁
Glad I got an older Toyota. at least my 09 model has removable pan on the bottom. not sure if Toyota got stupid like this later on, maybe so.
So what type of fluid does a 2015 Hyundai sonata take?
Good 👍 GIT'R DONE Early 🥪🍎🤣
Great help, thanks appreciated.
Thank you!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I bought this filter on Ebay before doing the job like hundreds of other people to then find out it can't be changed and when leaving neg feedback it doesn't show up.
رائع جدا وممتاز شرحك
So do I need to change my Filter or not my car is Elantra 2020
There is no way to get to the filter unless you take the transmission apart. That's the way Hyundai designed them.
Wich gearbox is that ? 7DCT ?
Bonjours les amis j'ai un problème avec une Hyundai tucson x20 diesel boîte de vitesses automatique. La voiture ne se déplace pas en avant juste en arrière ; donné moi quelque idée svp
I already change the oil in time but now after 300k I have noise from transmission I checked in 3 workshop’s the said you need to change the filter. the noise from filter. I have Elantra 2013
It's a dumb design like F150 series (no dip stick at all to check).
You have to drain & refill the fluid 3X minimum. Drive it for week, drain/fill (2X), drive & drain/fill (3X)
@@angelisoneI changed the filter with oil, now transmission it’s normal no noise no slip but the cost was high to change it.
i mean cant change the filter isit ?
Who invented something like that ?
🤦♂️
¿Is this a CVT transmission? ¿What kind of oil it's use?
No it’s not a CVT. If it’s the 6 speed it takes Dexron VI. I use Valvoline Maxlife Multi-vehicle.
@@EricFixalot very kind, thank you 👍
This isn't true for all Elantra's. I have a 2010 with the 4 speed automatic A4CF1 transmission and the filter is right under the pan. Pull the drain plug, drain the fluid and remove the 19 pan bolts and the filter is held in with three bolts. The pan bolts and the filter bolts use a 10mm socket.
esto del filtro es para los elantras modernos a partir del 2016
Картавит так мерзко слушать невозможно
Poor design
Hunk of crap! Any car designed to prevent the owner from serving the transmission is designed that way in order to prevent the owners from performing preventative maintenance. Steer clear from car manufacturers that engineer vehicles in these scammy ways.
