I once spoke to someone on a Dutch train who had converted his full size, 21 gears bicycle into a folding bike. As long as you can fold the frame, it counts as a folding bike to the Dutch railways and won’t require an extra train ticket for the bike.
You got a system that works, mate. No need to change. Sure atandard sized bikes will be faster and even more efficient... But if one goes down that path, then you end up like those spandex guys with their racer bikes that cost more than a house. Just enjoy your rides and tours.
That instant injury is a sign from above; don’t betray the folding bike haha
Great video! Looked like a lot of fun. My partner and I ride 26"ers just over the pond in Aus. We like them for their nice middle ground between small and sturdy/big and fast. If we were travelling on trains and planes and the like more, the folding bikes would be a sure pick!
Cheers mate! I like the way the big wheels roll smooth & they are fast. I’m going to get another 26” wheel mountain bike when I get my own place 😎🚲🏝
Enjoyable vid thanks. Nice to see Mel again (didn't want to ask where Mels been, esp on 14th Feb!). I do like swapping onto bigger wheeled bikes purely for the speed. Looks like you had a very fun day out. If that hire place do tandems then consider trying one! Will catch up with latest livestream soon. Ps enjoyed hearing your tunes again.
Haha! It wont be likely to see me on a tandem ;) I saw a couple touring on one in Europe once, didn't look like fun. Every time I see one I laugh at my own joke "The guy on the backs not pedaling" lol
Love the new tunes Andy. I have also missed your old mate. She's such a champ.
Since I was a kid and had a Raleigh Chopper. Ive always liked small wheeled bikes. And have never ridden wheels bigger than 22". 451.
Happy to see Mel back. 😊😊
Yeah
I received my folding bike this morning and went for a ride on it straight away
I’m extremely surprised how good folding bikes are
Thank you so much for the inspiration Andy
Yay! Folding bikes hold so much potential & it is a fun way to travel. I hope you enjoy your adventures by folding bike!
Which bike model did you buy ? Wheel size ?

Bigger wheels are faster, smaller wheels are more agile. I do like the upright seating position option with the folding bike. Some folders do allow you to change to a racing position but most are happy with the upright one. I also prefer the folder for multimodal transport and ease of storage.
Any wheel size doesn't matter, so long you able to push or carry the bike when you have difficulty riding over the terrain.
What a wonderful country ❤❤❤
I'm more of a use case person--I think the folding bike is great for urban commuting because its smaller and its easier to stop and maneuver in traffic. A big wheel is a lot better for bikepacking or bike touring for sure.
Where are you? It's beautiful. Also, it seems to me that the deciding factor is if you have a place to park a full size bike in your apartment or home. Folding bikes are best for urban dwellers who need to store them in a closet or off to the side with a small footprint. Folding bikes are easier for traveling too. Other than this, full sized bikes are better.
Nice 'n' funny one :)), cheers!
Congrats on the million views :D There are 26" folding bikes out there, I'm sure there are also 27.5 and 29s. But I wouldn't want to use them (or my 16 and 20 folders for that matter) on trails because the hinges are naturally weak points.
I haven’t had any problems with my full sized folding bike. It had 27.5 wheels on a mountain bike frame. It has a light duty front suspension fork, 1.5 inch wide tires, and 3x9 gears. I have taken it on mountain bike single track trails(no jumps) and raced it in a 30 mile gravel race with no problems anywhere. The pivot points are holding up well. It is a Change folding bike model 809. They have other models that might be suitable too.
One caveat. The system of “pop off” pedals for this bicycle aren’t durable. If they get whacked on rocks they can fail to function. It is better to just get a regular pair of pedals and learn how to install and remove them.
I was very disappointed he messed up his knee. I very much wanted to hear what he had to say about the difference. I love my 20" folding bike, but I'm thinking of getting a full size bike like the one in the video as a backup. Ease of hill climbing is more important to me than speed, so I wanted to get his opinion. Someone let me know what you think.
